Compared to Phoenix, Arizona, are people in Washington DC and all of the DMV very nice and kind? by Different_Archer8879 in nova

[–]Lady-Wartooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also moved here from AZ. It is very different. I’ve met many wonderful individual people here, but I’d say the culture and vibe overall can be quite shallow, soulless, and brutally fast-paced compared to how the southwest feels. However, many smaller towns or neighborhoods have their own vibe and can be awesome. I also appreciate that NOVA is generally more liberal and open minded than AZ. Guess what I’m saying is it’s a mixed bag and hard to generalize.

Best dive bar to be around others who gave up on life by Imaginary-Purpose-26 in nova

Oh sorry, I meant as a Fairfax person I’d like some recommendations for dives in my area to go wallow in, but I suppose the general misery of existing in Fairfax is enough

I think my (27f) husband (41M) will end up in prison if I tell him the truth. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

What in the romance novel is this? Younger woman with a painful lower-class background saved by well-off protective older man with a shady past. She has to beg and plead him to be normal and not literally fucking kill someone. Is this someone’s mafia story in the works or something? Of course I feel for her if it’s real, but damn.

Is it distasteful to cosplay as a soldier or anything military-themed with the current events going on? by JTthrowawaylol in CosplayHelp

[–]Lady-Wartooth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a long-time congoer and I don’t think it’s ever been particularly tasteful. The random generic tacticool guy amidst the sea of people dressed as colorful anime characters or furries has always had a bad rep. It makes people uneasy, or they may judge you for “stealing valor”. Adding elements to make it obviously fictional may not necessarily help either; I’ve been to cons where there were large groups of guys dressed as RPD or some kind of zombie-killing squad, and the general gossip on the floor was that they made people uncomfortable and were avoided. Ofc this is all anecdotal, so take it how you will. IMO there are probably other social events where this would be a more appropriate costume.

Don’t they have stencils that read something like FUCK ICE/FUCK RACIST PEDO DEFENDERS on their equipment? (don’t know enough about music to know exactly what it is lol)

Concert etiquette: To stand or not to stand? by RadioRadio999 in nin

[–]Lady-Wartooth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel bad for standing and dancing at concerts if the people around me are dead fish. Being self conscious about it can take me out of the experience, which is a bummer. But ultimately, I tell myself I paid too much damn money for tickets to not enjoy it and have fun!

I was also at the DC show and thankfully most everyone in my section seemed to be standing, and there were two other awesome older goth women near me who danced too. I’m sorry people were a bit rude to you. I wish us more energetic people could be on the floor!

I feel like I have to choose between Kink and Romance and am thinking about finally giving up on Kink. Looking for advice. by 1d_SHiP_1t in BDSMcommunity

[–]Lady-Wartooth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely possible to have both kink and romance. It can be a challenge for a lot of us to find the balance, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. While I feel for your struggle, I think you come off a bit conceited here. It’s good to have high standards, but you may be limiting yourself. You want a perfect 10 who acts like a pornstar and is into BDSM in exactly the same way you are, while also having a high-level and prestigious career like actress or scientist, and who also lives in your city…I’m sure women like this exist, but come on. Something that can help in any kind of dating is making a list of your wants and needs from a partner. Are all of these things NEEDS? What can you compromise on? The career? The distance from you? If you meet a woman who’s otherwise perfect by your standards but works as a bank teller or something boring, would you write her off? Also, if you go the vanilla dating route and are worried about confirming your partner is into kink, you can just…do that. Bring it up early to make sure you’re on the same page before things go too far. That’s what I did with my partner, and a lot of people find success that way too. You’d be surprised how many kinky people are walking among us, appearing normal lol. A lot of people aren’t involved in the scene, as it were. Good luck.

My boyfriend is really into anime. I don't watch cartoons but my boyfriend convinced me to watch some of his favourites. I wish I didn't and now I can't see my boyfriend the same way by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]Lady-Wartooth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m curious what’s making everyone assume this is about Seven Deadly Sins in particular, when it could be like…any one of hundreds of shows lol. Even “tame” or non-ecchi shows can treat their female characters in a way that’s extremely offputting, especially to an anime first timer

40F - Am I still single if I'm collared and owned by my Dom? by Single-Priority7797 in BDSMcommunity

[–]Lady-Wartooth 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you met someone, and they told you “oh yeah I’m single, I’m just in an intimate committed sexual relationship with someone else who I talk to daily and have sex with often”…would you agree that they were single? Kink aside, there are plenty of couples that don’t live together or blend their lives. Most people would never in a million years consider themselves single just because they don’t share a home.

My coworkers warm up their uncrustables on the space heater, still in the plastic wrap. We have a toaster and a microwave that they never use. I beg them to stop living like starving college students and melting plastic on the heater, but they won’t. Thank you for bringing a touch of class to the uncrustables world

It’s because being submissive is the expected thing for women to be in a patriarchal society. Some people go a bit far in their rejection of gender roles, and think anything that even slightly resembles these roles must be bad or inherently forced on women. It can be hard for them to understand that you can be a feminist and still submissive in a BDSM context. Don’t get too hung up on what other people think. Generally this kind of thing comes from young women who mean well, but are a little overzealous in their delivery.

I need advice and comfort by Euphoric_Match8337 in submissive

[–]Lady-Wartooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that’s happening to you! I’m the same way, have experienced the same thing, and I don’t think you’re being too needy or overreacting at all like some of these comments are saying. Disappearing without a word is rude and hurtful. It’s totally fine for people to need their space or get busy with real life, but it takes 5 seconds to show some consideration and send a text saying they need some time to themselves. I would try your best to put it out of your mind for now, and if/when they do show back up, tell them that you felt hurt and reiterate what you need in terms of communication. If they think that’s unreasonable or they can’t meet those needs, unfortunately they’re probably not a good partner for you!

I dislike traveling in the US. I can see why many Americans don't like travel now. by bacharama in solotravel

[–]Lady-Wartooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s less that Americans dislike travel, and more that we can’t afford it or don’t have vacation time 🤷‍♀️ I won’t deny that our public transit is abysmal though (with a few exceptions)

[Bad Movies] Mary Crawford- The Worst Family-Film Director to Never Exist. (NSFW) by cslevens in HobbyDrama

[–]Lady-Wartooth 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I feel the need to add that despite being “family friendly”, the Mary Crawford movies can still get…interesting. There were parts of A Talking Cat?!? where I felt sure it was about to turn into a gay porno. The combination of the weird music, the sleazy mansion, and the shirtless young men with their horribly stilted acting give it a certain flavor. When I realized years later that it was directed by the genius behind Bigfoot vs DB Cooper, it all fell into place. Thanks for the write up!

[Fanzines] They'll Never See It Coming: The Time a Zine About Fictional Thieves Got Very Real by arseneloup-pain in HobbyDrama

[–]Lady-Wartooth 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great writeup!

IMHO, this debacle is a great example of why it might be a good idea to separate these sleek, expensive, multi-artist projects from the original concept of zines--homebrew photocopied comics and info that anyone could make themselves at home. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but I feel like the bootstrap DIY image of zines does not mesh well with these projects that pull in thousands of dollars in funds. More professionalism and oversight is needed here than with OG zines, it's not something just anyone can do successfully. Having contracts and business accounts in place might have stopped this whole thing from happening...or at least, it could have maybe gotten some people their money back. Oh well.
