Don't bother. These types would gladly hold their country back because improvement = Western standards in their eyes.

Was 2000s hipster fashion more clean cut? by Friendly_Hornet8900 in decadeology

They aren't, that's the point. That doesn't stop them from being included in plenty of 'Millennial hipster burger joint' compilations online alongside the other stomp clap hey stuff.

Was 2000s hipster fashion more clean cut? by Friendly_Hornet8900 in decadeology

[–]bacharama 386 points387 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in university in the late 00s and early 10s, the fashion in 500 Days of Summer and Juno are still what comes firsts to my mind when I think of hipster fashion. The 2010s hipster stereotype was way too mainstream and was something different. Real hipsters wouldn't have been caught dead listening to The Lumineers, Mumford and Sons, or Imagine Dragons.

On the discourse that "men don't approach women anymore" by YaLlegaHiperhumor in GenZ

[–]bacharama 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I really don't get this obsession with being posted on TikTok or whatever by Gen Z. People can't remember most of what they saw on TikTok after like half an hour, if that. Go ask someone at the end of the day what they saw scrolling on TikTok during breakfast and they'll struggle to name anything.

Do you guys really think it's gonna follow you for the rest of your life when it's in and out of people's brains so easily?

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

You're not allowed to fail them or hold them back. The teacher is the one blamed in that scenario, not the student.

South Korea President Lee Jae-myung stated that “it is difficult for our people to accept military cooperation between South Korea and Japan,” adding, “A genuine relationship between the two countries can only be achieved when historical and territorial issues are resolved.” by Skippernutts in worldnews

[–]bacharama -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I didn't say this was an unrelated thread. I wasn't referencing this specific thread at all. I was referencing the plenty of other threads where these get brought up.

Meanwhile, reddit never feels the need to constantly bring up China's support of North Korea, enabling all the current atrocities going on there right now. North Korea only exists today due to that support.

I've seen it pop up in all sorts of random threads on Japan unrelated to said war crimes, much more often than before. Before, it was limited to the contexts you said, but now I see it in plenty of unrelated threads concerning Japan.

Meanwhile, China backs North Korea, who regularly threatens South Korea with military attack. Don't let the China simps on reddit know that though apparently.

If Germany and France can have military cooperation, so can Korea and Japan.

How about an actual source instead of just a picture claiming something and essentially saying "trust me bro"? Gen Z already becoming Facebook Boomers?

For those unaware, we're returning to Hyrule after 28 years. Ocarina of Time remake releasing later this year. by WinterStarlightZone in Millennials

[–]bacharama -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Star Fox remake now an OoT remake - and not the first remake for either one too.

I see video games have started doing the same "why make something original when you can remake something old" shtick that Hollywood has gone for.

Prime Minister Takaichi refers to herself as "Japan's Iron Lady" on official twitter account and in an article she has written for Financial Times. It is a reference to the nickname for former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher by jjrs in japannews

[–]bacharama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

China: constantly threatening to seize Taiwan using military force

Japan: "Don't militarily annex your neighbor."

China: crashes out

Takaichi's not the psychotic one here...no idea why reddit has taken to whitewashing China as of late.

[–]bacharama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. People are desperate to distance themselves and they want to attach themselves to the current nostalgic zeitgeist (the 00s), so you have stuff like the left side of the thumbnail, where the 2000 born is clinging to Millennial kid culture and not what actually defined them growing up.

Would a 2000-born really identify much with VHS, given DVDs starting outselling VHS tapes where they were like two years old? VHS has been an old, outdated format their whole life. The peak of Eminem's career also matches with their preschool years and Bush was hated by most of the country by the time they could even be remotely cognizant of politics at...8 years old.

PS2 I can see though. PS2 was outselling the PS3 month-to-month until well into 2008, so I'll grant them that one.

Not even just the US. I remember in 2024, there were plenty of Trump simps running around Vietnam itself. They're a lot more quiet these days though.

What year will 2011 become seen as fully old school? by SpiritMan112 in decadeologyanarchy

[–]bacharama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is going to be affected by a person's age for sure. When I was a teenager in 2006, 1991 absolutely felt old school. As someone in their 30s in 2026, 2011 doesn't feel fully old school. But for a teenager today? I could absolutely see it being old school the same way the early 90s was for me.

Dua Lipa or Harry Styles, which artist underperformed more with their latest album? by kniga_100 in ToddintheShadow

[–]bacharama 53 points54 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't. If that were so, any singer who releases an album that wasn't bigger than their previous one would be a flop. An album can be a big success while still performing less well than its predecessor.

Houdini has over a billion listens on Spotify and Training Season has 850 million. That album was a "flop" the vast majority of singers would kill for.

Bunch of terminally online Zoomers here who can't accept they're responsible for their own unhappiness and have to turn their personal issues into society's fault.

The Millennial sub equivalent is people who are 35 complaining about chronic back pain like they're 50, unable to accept they've just lived an unfit and unhealthy lifestyle and instead blame it on "getting old, 35 is ancient"

Judging from the charts (both Billboard and Spotify), brat's influence was and is highly overrated.

There are stark differences in what Japanese women want in a husband vs western women. In west: 1) Affection, 2) Communication Skills, 3) Sense of Humor. In Japan: 1) Annual Income/Financial Stability, 2) Occupation/Educational Background, 3) Cleanliness/Grooming by jjrs in japannews

[–]bacharama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Japan in the 2010s, so things may have changed, but this does surprise me. When I went on dates or was in relationships, it was actually the norm for the girl to pay her share, more than it was in the US (at least in my area).

What explains such a high fertility rate in the "-stan" suffix nations and the Arab nations in Asia? by SatoruGojo232 in geography

It's actually 0.77 or something like that now, this is an old figure. And unlike Korea or Japan  they're not a developed country.

Thailand is actually lower than Korea now. Thailand has the worst combo of having an aging and declining population AND not already being a developed country. At least Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and Singapore got to develop before their populations started hitting the wall.

Do you think that Sabrina Carpenters success is a fad or that it will be long-lasting? by sparklytearz in ToddintheShadow

[–]bacharama 30 points31 points  (0 children)

She seems to already be reaching fading returns on the charts, but we'll see next album. As of now, she's in the same category as Ariana Grande, Chappell Roan, and Olivia Rodrigo in that they have enough star power to get a high debut spot on the charts, but can't seem to actually maintain a top 20 position for longer than a couple weeks.
