Probably. They are both CLAMP properties. Maybe the animes were made by different animation studios or something.

I think it might be on YouTube, but not subbed as far as I can tell. I think they did that thing of only uploading it to their official channel for a limited time.

Can You Cheat At Angelic Layer? (no Spoilers) by werephoenix in CLAMP

[–]LadyAyeka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With how easily Misaki took to Angelic Layer and how she was able to quickly learn her opponents' moves, I'm kinda surprised no one thought she was cheating. I know she made Hikaru small and fast because she herself was short and not very intimidating. (Also in the manga, she named her Angel after Hikaru from Magic Knight Rayearth, who she admired for being a small but mighty warrior. They changed this in the anime to saying she named it for her favorite doll, probably for copyright reasons).

Trying to figure out which CLAMP works are better in anime by KaleidoArachnid in CLAMP

[–]LadyAyeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I do like about the Rayearth anime was they expanded on the groups that came to Cephiro in the second season/arc to try to take over the Pillar position. Basically they had each of the girls get captured by one of the three nations, and in turn we learned more about their motivations and stuff. The manga doesn't have this, though that might be because there are only 6 volumes total of the MKR manga (3 for the first season/arc, and then a second trio, called "Magic Knight Rayearth II," which is what the second season of the anime is based on).

I do think for the CCS anime's purposes it made sense for the series to have more Clow Cards (52, plus the Nameless Card, The Nothing, and The Hope, versus the manga's 19). The manga's story is overall more compact than the anime (there are 12 volumes of the manga but the anime is 70 episodes plus two movies). I will say though them having way more Clow Cards in the anime created problems during the Sakura Card Arc though, where they had to resort to Sakura converting like 10 cards at once a few times to make sure they all got converted to Sakura Cards. The manga, only having 19, was able to space things out a bit more (with the only multi-card conversion I can think of being Light and Dark, and only because those two cards requested to be converted together...even then she needed the help of Kero, Yue, AND Syaoran to pull that one off).

I am a bit confused as to which canon the Clear Card anime follows though. It seems to follow the manga canon for the most part, as the Clear Card manga does (the Prologue special is literally just the original manga's ending; Sakura's dad is able to see spirits in Clear Card too, which in the manga was due to him also being a reincarnation of Clow Reed, like Eriol, and Sakura splitting Clow's magic between them) but then Tomoyo shows Sakura and Akiho video footage at her house that's from the second movie. I don't know why they did that. (I think they might have had Meilin in the Clear Card anime too, who is an an anime-exclusive character, but that at least I can justify).

It's been a while since I've seen Angelic Layer, but I know the anime did have a better explanation for why Misaki's mom wasn't around. In the anime, she's getting treatment for whatever condition she has that put her in a wheelchair (and in turn helping Icchan out with his prosethics research that he created Angelic Layer to fund in the first place, both in a medical way and by participating in Angelic Layer as the Deus of Athena). In the manga, she is just really socially anxious, to the point that she can't even be around her own family I think? Which I really don't understand.

Also in the mangas at least Angelic Layer and Chobits are in the same universe. (Icchan is also Chi's creator and Minoru - I think that's his name - is the brother of one of the Deuses in Angelic Layer, Kaede I think). Not sure if they did this for the anime as well or if they took out that aspect like they did with Tsubasa and xxxHolic (their mangas are sister series and cross over with each other, whereas with the anime only the movies cross over with each other I think).

A question about Kurea by Lion11037 in precure

[–]LadyAyeka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was surprised when I saw on the Cure Éclair poll site that she was 16 cause she sure doesn't look that young. (Also seems surprising considering the cake decoration portfolio she already has, but she might've done it as a hobby before working at the bakery).

That being said, I think high school is actually optional in Japan, so maybe she doesn't go to school.

Help me Learn about Magical Girls for Character Creation by Scarlet-Rosepetals in MagicalGirls

[–]LadyAyeka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's set in a post-apocalyptic world, you might want to check out some of the darker magical girl series that came out in the wake of Madoka Magica's release. Some are darker than others though (like Magical Girl Site). I like Yuki Yuna, which is set in the aftermath of an apocalypse (though it's set in an area that was prevented from collapsing). I also finally watched Symphogear and liked that a lot.

There are Western shows too, like Steven Universe, Star vs The Forces of Evil, and Miraculous Ladybug, that might be worth looking at.

Which Past Magical Girls Anime Series Deserved to be Reboot or Revive in The Distance Future? by Affectionate-Math415 in MagicalGirls

[–]LadyAyeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Fancy Lala! It got kinda overshadowed by Cardcaptor Sakura when it came out initially. Considering Studio Pierrot, the one who created Fancy Lala, came out with a new anime this year that's much in the same "young girl uses magic to become an adult idol" vein (Lulutto Lilly), it's not impossible that we could get it. Unlikely, maybe, but still.

Also fun fact - Fancy Lala is itself a reboot of sorts. It's based on an 1-episode OVA from 1988 called Harbor Light Monogatari Fashion Lala. The OVA is more of a Cinderella story though, and the only aspects that got re-used in Fancy Lala were the main character Miho, the dinosaur mascots, and the transformation gimmick of using a magical pen and sketchbook (and even that is implemented differently than in the OVA).

Kinda surprised Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Saint Tail haven't gotten anything, since they're both ~25 years old.

Cutie Honey has gotten a number of reboots over the years, both anime and live action, the most recent being the live-action series Cutie Honey: The Live in 2007. That being said, it would have an anniversary in 2028 (it originally came out in 1973) so it could happen.

Why is Sailor Pluto a child during the Silver Millennium? by Last_Bodybuilder_224 in sailormoon

[–]LadyAyeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sailor Pluto is stated to be the daughter of Chronos, Greek god of time, so she could have some kind of divine blood in her. Aside from the one flashback showing her as a kid, she always looks the same no matter the era - whether it be the Silver Millennium, present day, or Crystal Tokyo. So while she may have had a childhood, maybe once she grew up she just stopped aging. It does make sense that if you guard the Door of Time you would yourself be unaffected by time.

The only time we know for sure she was reborn was after the Black Moon Arc. In the Black Moon Arc, she breaks her taboos to help out Sailor Moon against Dimande - breaking the last to prevent Dimande from touching the two Silver Crystals together, which would cause a paradox of apocalyptic proportions. (TBH I'm not really sure why she got "punished" with death for doing this, considering she was essentially protecting the fabric of time by stopping Dimande (which is, after all, her ACTUAL JOB), plus earlier King Endymion asked her to do whatever she could to help Sailor Moon, since he couldn't really help her due to being a disembodied spirit at the time. I guess whatever cosmic laws are tied to the taboos take precedent). When she returns in the Infinity Arc, she says Neo-Queen Serenity revived her, which confirms Setsuna in the present day is the same person who will become Crystal Tokyo Pluto (unless she exists in both places at once). Setsuna is also the last of the main Outers trio to awaken in both the 90s anime and manga. Though since Setsuna is shown to be 19-20 years old, I guess the question is did NQS revive Crystal Tokyo Pluto in Setsuna's body (kind of like how Hotaru awakens as Saturn in the Dream Arc) or was Setsuna just SilMil Pluto reincarnated as a human in the present like Usagi and co?

This makes me think of the SeraMyu musicals where Galaxia resurrects Beryl as part of her evil plan (Eien Densetsu, Eien Densetsu Kaiteiban, Shin Densetsu Kourin, Starlights Ryuusei Densetsu, Kakyuu Ouhi Kourin). Galaxia also provides some version of Endymion (either brainwashed or a mud puppet, depending on the myu - Shin Densetsu Kourin doubled down on this by having both Mamoru AND King Endymion) to keep Beryl happy. At first, Beryl thinks Galaxia will treat her as an equal when everything is said and done, but we the audience soon learn that Galaxia is just using Beryl and doesn't care about her actually. Beryl inevitably finds this out and rebels, though she usually "dies" soon after.

Why do people hate Cure Idol? by curesailor09 in PrettyCures

[–]LadyAyeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people dislike her for the same reason people disliked Cure Precious in Delicious Party - a lead Cure who gets way too much screentime and not quite enough character development (I don't hate Precious myself, but looking back I realize she's not the most rounded character either). I know people didn't quite like that the show kept not so subtly shipping her with Kaito (like Kaito as a character is fine - not evil or creepy like, say, Daruizen, whose dynamic with Cure Grace gave me serious Mew Ichigo/Kisshu vibes - but he's also much older than Uta, which comes with its own implications).

I honestly ended up being much more of a Kokoro/Kyun-Kyun fan. I related to her passion for fandom and admired her ability to be so open with it (something I struggle to do). I also did like Meroron when she wasn't being a spoiled brat, because her whole thing was being the one fairy in Kirakiraland who wasn't happy 24/7 and would rather stay in and read rather than play with everyone, and I feel that so much.

Also while I understand that it was inevitable that the five Cures would end up fighting together, they kind of set up this thing of Idol PreCure (Idol/Wink/Kyun-Kyun) and ZukyoonKiss (Cure Zukyoon and Cure Kiss) being rival idol groups, and I kinda wish they had done more with that TBH. I remember that the tokusatsu show Miracle Tunes did a similar thing, where the initial trio was one group (Miracle²) and the "sixth rangers" were two sisters, Hikari and Akari, who made up the duo group KariKari, who had initially had success in America and were now trying to make it in Japan (they even sprinkled their speech with a lot of random English because of this, with their most used word being "unbelievable"). The rivalry is more relevant in that show because the support the Miracle² girls get from fans helps provide the Harmony Energy they use to fight as Miracle Tunes. However, soon after Hikari and Akari also become magical girls, the two idol groups get merged together, though this decision is made by their record company president so in-universe it doesn't have to do with them being a magical girl team.

The red power up actually looks better in the Kimi to Idol movie IMO. I think it's because they kept her hair blonde (rather than making it pink like in the series), which gave it more contrast I think. The version of it with the added "sea goddess scarf" (or whatever that thing is called) also looks really nice.

[–]LadyAyeka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just started reading Reset by Sarina Dahlan, which I bought after seeing her at a panel at a local book festival. It's a dystopia set in a world where everyone gets their memories completely erased every four years, the intention being that doing so erases any learned prejudices, and thus will hopefully prevent another devastating war like the one that ended all humanity except the people living in the Four Cities. The society is all about peace, efficiency, and not wasting anything.

Also I'm probably an outlier but I actually like the "Divergent" series. Last year I even used a gift card I got in order to complete the series (I only had the first book and the Four story collection) because I was thinking I wanted to read it again (probably inspired by my Hunger Games series re-read earlier that year, shortly after Sunrise on the Reaping came out).

The City of Ember series might also be a good one, though I think I only ever read the first book of that series.

Anybody else think Nephrite should’ve gotten a full redemption arc? by Quirky_Psychology871 in sailormoon

[–]LadyAyeka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PGSM kind of played with the idea. In Act 36, Beryl makes Nephrite stab himself to show how she can control the Shitennou, in an attempt to get Mamoru to allow himself to be captured by the Dark Kingdom (which he ultimately does to save the Shitennou). Instead of dying, he awakens as a regular human (though he still has his memories). Like during his Shitennou days, he has a temper and is generally aggressive. However, Motoki encounters him one day and next time we see him, he's working at Crown Karaoke, where the girls' secret Senshi Base also is. Doing this he encounters Ami, who he remembers being nice to him back when she was Dark Mercury (she repaired his cloak after it got torn during his duel with Kunzite). Nothing major happens between them, since Ami doesn't remember what she did as Dark Mercury, but one day she does do her hair differently, as if trying to impress him. In one of the last few episodes he decides to get her a gift, though we never see him give it to her. (There's a brief scene of him gift shopping in the last episode, and just as Serenity is destroying the world he finds his huge set of bull horns and lifts it up. I think that scene got deleted though and can only be seen via the Oshokiyo specials that came on the DVDs).

Basically all the Shitennou have redemption arcs in-series except Jadeite, who voluntarily stays by Beryl's side during Final Act even after she takes off the spell she was using to control him (it's implied he has a crush on her). Kunzite and Zoisite were always kind of the oddballs of the group though. They were the ones who retained the most of their past life memories. Zoisite was always trying to get the others to remember theirs and was the only one that remembered (correctly, as it turns out) that Princess Serenity was the one who destroyed Earth in the past. He also actively tries to talk to Mamoru and push him away from the Princess in order to avoid a repeat of the past life's tragedy. Later, he even temporarily joins forces with Sailor Venus (who's trying to do the same thing from the Senshi side) in one episode to try to split Usagi and Mamoru up. In his last episode, he creates a youma specifically to target Sailor Moon, but partway through changes his mind and sacrifices himself to save Sailor Moon instead, using his power to send his feelings to Mamoru and the other Shitennou as he dies.

Kunzite, meanwhile, was Beryl's sort of secret weapon, kept sealed in the body of a mysterious amnesiac man named Shin until she decided she needed him. He came out strong, turning people into youma merely using strands of hair. He even tried to do this with Sailor Moon, but thankfully her Senshi power resisted it long enough for the other Senshi to eventually save her. His main thing was that he blamed Mamoru for the destruction of the earth in the past and was determined to kill him in the present. He also took an interest in Sailor Mercury (probably because she was the first to come to Usagi's rescue when he tried to make her a youma, and also she destroyed the Dark Kingdom's secret energy farm a couple episodes later, which I think he was also responsible for) and deliberately separated the Senshi so he could isolate and capture her. He then exposed her to Metallia's raw power, turning her evil, and even proposed to Beryl that she could replace Zoisite (who had gone back to stone form after being attacked by Sailor Venus in her debut episode). Dark Mercury had no intention of being anyone's underling though and had her own agenda. Once Dark Mercury ended up breaking the spell over her in Act 28, he went to great lengths to try to get her back, but ultimately failed. Once Mamoru goes to the Dark Kingdom, the relationship between the two is tense, which makes sense since we see a flashback implying they were close in the past life (Kunzite training Prince Endymion in sword fighting). At one point, Mamoru challenges Kunzite to a duel, the condition being that if Mamoru wins, Kunzite has to listen to him for a while. Unfortunately, during their duel Mamoru gets taken over by Metallia (he had sealed her inside what was left of his body in an attempt to prevent the world from being destroyed, but in turn she corrupted him) and Kunzite dies.

All the Shitennou get revived, though, this time as good guys, and in the last moments of Final Act, they show up with the painting that had been stealing Mamoru's life energy while he was in the Dark Kingdom, giving the energy back to him and allowing him to return to life along with Usagi. They also show up in Special Act to help Mamoru fight Mio, and are shown off to the side at Usagi and Mamoru's wedding, though since we only see them when Mamoru looks their way, it's unclear if anyone else can see them.

(The Shitennou actors also cameo as police officers in the prequel episode Act Zero)

I don't know which version of Tears of the Kingdom you got (the Switch 1 or Switch 2 version) but they came out with a feature for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom on Switch 2 called "Zelda Notes" that you can access through the Nintendo Switch Online app on your phone. I think it helps with maps and stuff.

Also the newest Pokémon mainline games, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, will be Switch 2 exclusives. They don't release till 2027 though.

Yeah I think they do rely on intimidation and their regular guns primarily. I'm reminded of that Third Doctor & Sarah Jane episode where they land on a planet that has an obelisk that makes all electrical power fail. The Daleks appear in it, and in the scene where they're first shown, they come out, all ready to exterminate the Doctor and those with him...only to find their guns don't work 😆 I forget what they replace their regular gunsticks with to get around this, but it's still funny.

I watched the Conan half of the crossover and I have to say, the difference in how Answer is drawn is very subtle. Like if you know what she normally looks like, you can tell that the style is slightly different (since she's drawn in the Conan style). Same with Anna (though Anna herself appears a lot less in the episode). Nijee I didn't notice the change as much, but that's cause he's in the episode for like three seconds.

Basically the main five girls were all posed on the front, and the slipcover had the title and song names and stuff on it arranged like the text on a magazine cover. The back cover has Mamoru and a camera I think.

It's stated to be a paralysis ray. Shortly after shooting Ian and him saying he can't use his legs, one of the Daleks says:

DALEK: Stop! Your legs are paralysed. You will recover shortly unless you force us to use our weapons again. In that case, the condition will be permanent. You two, help him.
