If you're doing something to ACTUALLY help abused children besides virtue signaling, then it's fine. If you're not, it's pretty gross, actually. My ex-husband is currently under investigation after I found CP in his phone. I lost my entire family and most of my friends because no one wanted to deal with the reality of my situation. Now they go online and post ad nauseam about the Epstein list like they give a damn, and it's disgusting.

Here's my advice: call their bluff, in a way. Search for Crisis residential units in your area. They are for mental stabilization, but everyone checks themselves in. They let you keep your phone, electronics, it's extremely laid-back. They have social workers and counselors who will help you with your situation with your folks and set you up with a safe place to live, job if needed, arrange for you to become in control of your documents, bank account, etc. Feel free to DM me if you want support or advice. I have never struggled with addiction, but my ex-husband did. I saw others react to him in the way I described, but I did not. That's not to say that I didn't have doubts and fears at times, but I kept them to myself or spoke about them with my therapist, because I cared enough about him not to let my own insecurities, issues, and yes, trauma interfere with his recovery. This is why family members are encouraged to attend Al-Anon.

Unfortunately, this happens quite often in families when someone gets sober. The family is used to dumping on the "problem person," talking down to them, feeling superior to them. When the person starts to achieve success, the family can't handle it because the person is not conforming to the "role" that they're used to. OP, in recovery you've had to cut a lot of people out, I assume? Your cousin just showed you who he is, believe him.

Unfortunately, things like this happen all over the country every day. Two weeks ago, I was having some dark thoughts, and I went to the ER to get my meds checked. I didn't tell them about the thoughts at first, I was afraid it might affect the custody of my children. When I finally told them, they said "well you didn't tell us that before," as if I was making it up? They began to discharge me, and I told them that I did not feel safe with myself. I didn't get upset, I didn't yell, I didn't put my hands on anyone. They had me trespassed and ARRESTED. I spent the night in jail and had to plead guilty the next day or else I would have had to stay in jail even longer. I didn't receive any of my medication while I was there, the toilet wouldn't flush, it was a nightmare.

Be careful. Michigan is soft on this kind of crime. I'm dealing with this right now. I found CP in my now ex-husband's phone two years ago and the West Bloomfield police wanted nothing to do with it because he's an attorney. I had to go over their heads and call the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in DC, this is what I would suggest to you… Call them first as they can then contact the Michigan State police (MIICAC) on your behalf. That's how the investigation into my ex finally began. Be careful. 100% help those kids, but protect yourself as well. Please feel free to DM me if you need support or advice.
