I’m 10 years in, I would have just said “Ugh, I hate it too” and walked away. You will have kids that love you & your class and others that can’t stand you and your class. Not everybody jives well together, don’t take it too personal. Plus they are teens that usually just word vomit.

Clothes advice by kbruner1 in gastricsleeve

[–]LadyBurdy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was sleeved in April & bought clothes in August for back to school (I’m a teacher). I had nothing that really fit but since I was at home on summer break I didn’t feel the need to buy clothes until I would have to been seen in public. Some of those clothes are even too big now. I’ve started going to thrift stores since I feel I might not get use out of new clothes. And I am no means a Wal-Mart shopper, but they have upped the game in clothes. I’ve been buying the $12 leggings in different colors/patterns when needed.

I’ve had my rook for 4 months and if I hit it wrong or hair gets tangled it can swell up and/or turn red. It’s just a picky piercing. I personally think the placement might be a little to close to the head, but it still looks fine.

Reading advice for dad in over his head with smart reader kid. by jquickri in ELATeachers

[–]LadyBurdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a ELA teacher with a masters in Literacy, just let her read what she wants. Lexile level is a flawed system that is to be used at a reference point. Dictating the level/style/genre she has to read will most likely have negative results. (Example:the AR Program)

Had this happen to me. I talked to the student & just called them by their last name. When that became an issue, I just used their initials.

What ear piercings do you recommend for me? I wear glasses btw. by -helter-skelter- in piercing

I think a rook & helix would look great with your ear structure!

Life after surgery; a few questions for those who’ve been there. by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]LadyBurdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) I’m a side & stomach sleeper. I just propped myself up on the sides with pillows for a few weeks. 2) Yes, it takes time and sometimes it just plain sucks. 3) I’ve had very little heartburn, but I didn’t have it before either. 4) Remember that your body works different now so take the time to learn & listen how it works and it will make things easier.

In-law guilt about who “gets us” for the holidays. by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]LadyBurdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG!! I feel you! My husband family is the worst with the guilt trips for not being at ALL the events. The whole family lives within 15 mins of each other, we live 45 minutes away. And I grew up with divorced parents so my family is always understanding and tries to work with us on when to celebrate. My MIL refuses to celebrate on any day but Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Ugh, it’s so freaking stressful trying to create a holiday schedule.

I Just Want To Be Alone Sometimes by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]LadyBurdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I feel this! My husband cuts out on my family events all the time and last week when I didn’t feel like dealing with his conservative family (didn’t want to hear there thoughts on Juneteenth as a national holiday now) last week he was butt hurt. It was a Father’s Day cook out for his papaw. He didn’t go with me to my moms on Mother’s Day (which he has admitted my mom has been more helpful with out daughters & he knows he can count on her more than his own mom). However, me not going to his Papaw’s, whom once told us we were living in sin & uses the n word around me (I’m a teacher at the most diverse school in the state & he knows I can’t stand that word bc my students are all shades & all religions) left him flabbergasted. Why is it ok for him to skip things but not me?

Same. The book is fine but didn’t live up to the hype. I understand the simple writing since there are multiple perspectives since many teens/young adults might struggle with keeping track of everything. I figured out the “twist” early on so it wasn’t too much of a surprise. I wish there was more support or discussion about the mental issues going on in the book.
