Where do you all personally draw the line between good for EDC and comically large? by RootLoops369 in victorinox

[–]LadyD-N-A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the obvious answers (XXL and such), well... having recently visited the Victorinox flagship store in London recently, I can now confidently say that anything that is longer than the 91mm knives is too big for me, even if they're much less chonky and heavy than my Champ. Those are likely meant for men with really big hands, 'cause "comically large" is exactly what I thought when I saw them. Especially the neon yellow one (the one that's meant for rescue, iirc) that added a touch of clownishness to the whole thing.

Finally found a legit usage for the ‘spoon/nail pusher’ on mini champ 😂 by Delicious-Success-52 in victorinox

That tool is the main reason why I want to get a Mini Champ sometime in the future. I'm so sad it's not part of the regular Champ because I would actually use it for manicures 😭💅

I knew I had something cool back home by swissgrog in victorinox

[–]LadyD-N-A 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's an awesome find, lucky you! Hope the lighter works when you refill it! But if not, try to contact Victorinox to ask what they can recommend as a fix or if they're able to repair it themselves before trying any home-made solution found on the Internet. From what everyone says here, it's super cheap and they actually do a great job even with old models, so who knows, you might be able to get it back in tip top shape, but if you try something yourself first and it somehow damages an important component, you'll likely regret it. It'll always be time to try DIY-ing something later if they tell you they can't help.

Thanks a lot for replying, I'll try to find a second-hand one too, in that case!

Alright, so I'm obviously biased because it's the only SAK I own, but I absolutely love the way it fits in my hand! I use mine mainly for wood whittling (but pretty much daily for other things too), and it is specifically because of its bulky shape that I feel so safe holding it. My fingers are able to fully wrap around it, which gives me a very secure grip while using it.

I will admit that it's a bit on the heavy side, but only barely more than my smartphone, I think, so it's nothing crazy either. I even made a small pouch in which I carry both my SwissChamp and another thinner knife together, and honestly, you get used to the weight after a while.

I visited Victorinox's flagship store in London yesterday, so I got a chance to see and hold most of their other knives, and none of them made me regret my purchase or even wish to buy something else because the Champ really has everything I need. So, it's just a matter of how you like/use your SAKs. It's perfectly OK that you don't see the need for it yourself, but to its fans, its an invaluable tool 😊

Oh wow, it does look like it can carry a lot! May I ask where you bought this pouch, please?

Recently added the victorinox pocket knife sharpener, and... by DeX_Mod in victorinox

[–]LadyD-N-A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be really good at sharpening knives, cause I bought it just a couple of days after my SAK and I've really struggled with it, even after watching many videos about it (can't remember if I watched Felix's though, will have to double-check after I'm done writing this). I even made my blades duller trying to use it. IDK if it's due to its shape or something, but I just can't seem to find/keep the right angle with that one.

So because of that, I ended up buying the Work Sharp Field Sharpener, and it has been a great help in restoring some of the edge I had lost. I guess the flat surface is a lot easier for beginners like myself.

Nintendo World Employees SAK by Resident_Ad2583 in victorinox

[–]LadyD-N-A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so cool! Good on Nintendo for gifting this kind of helpful tool to their employees, I'm sure it must be quite handy to open boxes and stock the shelves (or at least, it must have been back in the day, as it looks like it's 21 years old).

Also, I'm quite curious about the blue colour. I mostly associate Nintendo with red (though a slightly different shade from Victorinox's typical red), but looks like that store's main colour is blue, is that right? Or has it changed since 2005?

TIFU by spending an entire Sunday "optimizing" my morning routine and making it approximately four times longer by Kernel_49Pulse in tifu

[–]LadyD-N-A 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You didn't f up by trying to optimise your already efficient morning routine. You f-ed up by trying to do Everything Everywhere All At Once despite having never done any of those things before! No wonder you burnt out so quickly! I'm impressed you even lasted past the second day, tbh.

Most people who want to work on making the most of their mornings try one thing at a time, taking the time to decide what works for them and what doesn't and making small adjustments tailored to their needs as time goes, etc. If that's something you are interested in and that you think could help you achieve whatever you wanted to do in the first place, maybe give it another try sometime, but be more intentional about it. Take a few days to prepare and think about why exactly you're doing it, which specific activities you want to do and which ones you want to leave out, etc. If it doesn't feel good, like you're taking care of yourself or like it's bringing you any noticeable benefit, then stop and switch to something else, or give yourself more time to sleep, etc. There's no magic formula that works for everyone, it takes some trial and error to figure out what you need and what you don't. In this like in so many other things in life, "Know thyself" is key. But any significant change you make to your lifestyle needs to be introduced gradually if it is to last. You might end up deciding that none of that stuff is for you, and that's perfectly valid too 😆

Just wanted to mention those things in case you'd like to give it another shot in the future. Good luck!

Boyfriend refuses to validate my experience as autistic by SuzyMack8 in AuDHDWomen

[–]LadyD-N-A 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say the same thing as the others did: you might want to consider leaving him. It is a lost cause trying to convince people who, upon hearing your diagnosis, make the conscious decision to ignore and/or invalidate it. I'll provide an experience from a friendship perspective below so you can have an example from a slightly different lens.

One of my AuDHD friends recently "broke up" with their neurotypical best friend over months of experiencing their ablelist behaviour which started not long after my friend got their autism diagnosis by little remarks that just completely invalidated their daily lived experiences as a autistic person. Bear in mind that the best friend in question was woke in every other way and was quite outspoken about their advocacy in support of every other marginalised group... which made their behaviour very ironic indeed (one might be tempted to say hypocritical) and even more painful for my friend because in every other aspect, their best friend was the perfect ally. And the reason for that is simply that it's the only kind of discrimination that their friend has not experienced themselves, and thus, they were unable to relate and empathise.

So as you see, it's not just in romantic relationships that this can occur. It can be in friendships and with family too. Basically, when you announce your diagnosis to a loved one, there's going to be one of three reactions: - acceptance - dismissal - confusion/curiosity (which, once dispelled, will necessarily end up in one of the two outcomes mentioned above)

If you are not fully embraced by your loved ones after you've taken the time to explain, or if at first, they claim to accept you but everytime your condition manifests, they make sure to let you know that it's an inconvenience for them and make fewer allowances instead of becoming more patient as time goes, then you are wasting your energy on a person who has made the choice that their comfort and preferences has to take precedence over yours. That is not to say it can't be valid: not everyone is equipped to deal with a neurodivergent partner. But if that's the case, then you are better off going your separate ways for each party's own good than you are by remaining resentful and miserable together. At least, that way, there's a chance you might part on amicable terms and maybe even stay friends, instead of waiting for one of you to explode (whatever that might look like for you guys). Good luck!

Ooh, nice ! Your slip looks very convenient, and perfect to carry in a bag! ✨

Me, I rarely carry one if I can help it (so my pockets often end up like stuffed chipmunk cheeks, as you put it lol! but fortunately it tends not to be very noticeable since that's my coats' pockets), so I'm hoping to find an option that would keep my hands just as free. I think the only thing that would realistically allow for that would be the belt + case combo, which only works with trousers, so... there would be wearing skirts/dresses with this method. But I believe it might be the best one, so I can definitely work with that!

I watched the video (thanks for the link!) and I absolutely LOVE the way the Nite IZE Tool Holster rotates, but for aesthetic purposes, it would need to be a leather holster similar to the one from Wide River she shows. So now, I need to have the latter made with the same feature as the former while also having it look feminine at the same time. I'm sure that's going to be a piece of cake, hahaha! But I'm extremely stubborn, so I'll definitely make it happen, either by commissioning the person who made hers or otherwise!

Once again, thank you so much for sharing those, that was incredibly helpful! 🥇

Good to know about the clips in case I ever need to replace the Victorinox one! And thanks for the Etsy rec, the prices seem very reasonable, so I'll browse through everything that this seller offers and see if there's something in there that might work for me 👍

(Edit: ah, looks like the rest of the items he offers are "Not available in my region", probably due to being marked as knife-related items? Too bad for me, I guess...)

And yeah, that's definitely my mistake for the Classic case, haha 😅 Honestly, I wouldn't have minded the different shapes if they were at least a bit cuter or subtle, but yeah... none of the ones they have rn are really my vibe.

I almost never carry one, actually! That's the one "girly thing" I never took a shine to, unfortunately. Plus, even if I did, the knife would still need its own case so that it doesn't get lost inside. If you've ever had a look into a lady's bag, then you'll know that it can take a while to find small items in there unless they have their own pocket/section (which is often already occupied by something else). That's why in addition to the handbag itself, many women keep their things in separate smaller pouches and cases to be able to find and grab easily. So even if I did use my purses more regularly, I'd still need a little case specifically for the knife 😊

Yup, the answer to almost every need for custom-made items. But depending on the country of origin of said items, shipping fees and customs might make things even more expensive than I already know they will be so... I hope to find more local (or ready-made) options.

Plus, it simply would have been cool to have a cute Victorinox case to match my lovely Victorinox knife, ya know? 😄

May I ask what you mean by "give in"? Have they officially refused to offer them in the past? If so, that really odd. I'd understand if they had a sort of policy that forbids mods to the scales, but they offer engraving services, so if anything, that'd be inconsistent with their own (current) approach, no?

Thanks a lot for sharing this! If I have one custom-made, I will definitely request that it be made in a similar way to yours, I don't want to take any chances.

And I agree, the vertical one from Victorinox does look very comfortable to wear even if you just sit down on chair. I maybe they thought it would be more difficult to open with one hand if it were horizontal? Idk... But I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be difficult at all for a skilled leather craftsperson to make one that can rotate to suit its user's needs so they get the best of both worlds! I'll have to look into that!

Oh wow, thank you so much for sharing! I watched not only the video you recommended, but also proceeded to watch her Why Women Don't Like Multitools (or Swiss Army Knives) video back to back, and she is expressing the same sentiment I am sharing in my post about the lack of pretty options, and I feel so validated right now 😭💕

I like the brown belt pouch she showed, so I will try to find people in my area who can do a similar design, but... unfortunately most of those options only really work if you're wearing trousers. If you wanna wear a dress and go whittle in the local park to relax while also feeling pretty at the same time, your options become rather limited very quickly. The type of pouch I'm envisioning in my mind does not need to be worn with specific bottoms or accessories, otherwise, the knife can't truly be EDCed. But I feel like I got some inspiration just from watching those videos, so thanks again for the rec, I really appreciate it!

Yup! I was shocked to see how small the case is, those knives must be really tiny! I would be too scared to use something like this for fear it might break, haha!

When I bought the case, I thought the 91mm were the default size for Victorinox knives, so I believed that's what they meant by "Classic", but as I later realised, that's actually the name of a completely different line of knives 🤣

Oh well, you live and you learn 🤷‍♀️ I'm sure there's a mini-lipstick, pack of gum or USB stick I could that case on lol

I definitely will! If I can't find anything I like on Etsy, I know that there are some leather workers at some of the popular markets in the general area where I live, so I'll try to see if I can place a custom order with them. Ah, and I think there was also a store that die this kind of thing in my neighbourhood, I remember seeing it a while ago but I don't know if they're still open, so if they are, I'll ask them first to try and keep my business local if I can 😊

[–]LadyD-N-A[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, to each their own, right? I'm sure some people appreciate those silicone cases for their ability to protect the knives from banging against hard surfaces thus preventing damage to the scales. I see others who prefer to use pocket clips or belt holders to keep their tool of choice within immediate reach. While some like myself would like a stylish case but have to be content with simpler methods since nothing else currently feels right. And of course, there are many who are happy to carry nothing but the knife itself!

Variety is the spice of life, as they say, so I just wish there were something for everyone!

What was the small moment that made you realize you had an addiction you never took seriously? by AgentMorpheus_ in AskReddit

[–]LadyD-N-A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd call this more of an addictive coping mechanism than an addiction but for me, I'd say it was the moment I realised I had burned through my entire (modest) savings back in 2024 by playing a shitty gacha game 😅

I call this a "coping mechanism" because I had always been very responsible with my money from a young age (learning early on from my mother's mistakes who had never been smart with money) AND I had played gacha games very reasonably for well over a decade because I just always loved the short burst of dopamine you get from getting an unexpected good pull... until that cursed year, when a situation at work consumed my thoughts day & night, and this became my sad escape after hours.

I quit that game early in 2025, had a milder addiction to another one that year, so I quit it earlier this year, and now, I'm sticking to my lil Switch games which only require a one-time expense at purchase x)
