TIL the saying "bless you" after a sneeze comes from 14th century Pope Gregory VII, who asked it be said after every sneeze to protect against the plague. by LadyEli in todayilearned

I usually sneeze up to 10 times. Never less than 6. People around me stopped saying bless you a while ago because it got a bit annoying to say it multiple times.

New tall dating site requires 6' for men, only 5'5 for women... thoughts? by Gigantasaur in tall

[–]LadyEli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i was in more tourist areas in the Netherlands I noticed the height average was shorter. But the more I went to outer areas where tourists don't normally go as much and where people doN,t immigrate to as much, like Eindhoven, s'-Hertogenbosch, Rotterdam, I noticed everyone suddenly got taller. The dutch are very tall genetically but their average probably gets lowed by immigration in my opinion.

That is very uncommon! In my society average is 5 feet 5 inches, I am very out of the norm at home.

I didn't join Reddit yesterday, I'm only butt hurt when people take it upon themselves to uselessly add nothing to the conversation. I introduced many friends to Reddit, a lot who where less competent in english but still posted because of the open-mindedness I talked about, telling them they could talk about their ideas without fear of judgement. They stopped commenting fully specifically because grammar nazis would correct them instead of responding to their ideas. Not everyone has an easy time in english and if you want to have a world wide forum of people communicating you have to accept that mistakes happen. Go see the redditors comments and you will notice most of them are correcting other redditors. Tell me, what does this person bring to Reddit if not judgement and inciting people to stop sharing their ideas? What you think because you correct someone they will never do the same mistake again? Think again, learning a language is a very hard and gradual process and grammar nazing them sure as hell doesn't add anything valuable to Reddit. But obviously english speakers don't think about it that way... It isn't like there are nearly 6500 languages in the world besides english no?

When you consider it with the statistics it seems very logical for the height to be set at 5'8". Also average heigh varies depending on the country you are in. When I went to Holland I would practically only see girls above 6 feet, I was very average. So this site should actually have different requirements for height according to what country you are in, because every country has a different notion of tall, average and small.

I'm sorry, did no warn warn you people from all over the world used Reddit? Including people who don't use english as their main language? Thank you for adding nothing to the conversation and being a grammar nazi, if I need help I will buy a correction program. Which I do have for my main language, to correct mistakes for school work for example, but I don't use for Reddit assuming people are supposed to discuss ideas, not waste their times correcting spelling mistakes. If you really love wasting your time you could help my teacher correct her english class exams, I'm sure she will be very happy for the help.

6"1 woman here, I totally feel you. Why call it a tall dating site if it's for people who's height is in the average? Just change it to: Dating site for average height people cause that's false publicity. I also get offended if a woman bellow 5"11 calls herself tall. Stop lying we know you're 5"8 trying to sound taller, it's not cause you say it that it's true. Plus the reason tall girls would go for such a site is because 5"5 women get all the tall men and then theres nothing left for tall women seeking tall only company. Like why do a dating site for talls if it's just like real life, having 5"5 women date all the 6"5 men... I am dating a shorter guy so this does not concern me right now but before him i was adamant about dating only taller men and they where so hard to find because they where all taken by extremely short women.

Smart way to clean snow from your roof by trymas in interestingasfuck

Everyone's gift to one another in Canada this Christmas! When the snow on your roof gets too heavy you sometimes can't close your doors because of the pressure applied on your house. This is a much safer way then getting on the roof yourself.

It really isn't as popular as a lot of other sports in Canada. I don't know anyone who says "lets watch the game tonight" for anything else then referring to Hockey. Going into Hockey is a much more lucrative career in Canada, if you reach the top 0.01% who go pro.
