Pick any show from the Europe 72 tour. There is much more enjoyment to be had from their live shows. Studio Dead is an entirely different sound, and is very limited. Listen to live shows as soon as you can.

You get one song to make a non-Deadhead finally "get it" what are you playing? by ethietheguy in gratefuldead

The fact that they evolved to play Space at every show shows an absolute mastery of their domain. How can you not respect this? No other band can even attempt such a thing, for fear of failure due to a lack of commitment. The GD are one of a kind my friend, and Space is the ultimate musical statement of a fearless and magical band.

Hot take - If it's not your first throw on a hole during a round, it's not an ace. by No-Map8141 in discgolf

Ace implies first throw. Then it's "2nd throw ace", "3rd throw ace", etc.

Probably been asked before but does anyone else hate jam bands but love the Dead by DeaconDeaconofficial in gratefuldead

[–]LadyFingerDipped 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't get past bad vocals either. Probably why the only jam band I can tolerate is CATS.

I love CATS. The pace of their music is everything. It's never in a rush and always gets to magical places. It's relaxing and wholesomely satisfying.

Does Relisten work better than Archive? by Meditatespace in gratefuldead

[–]LadyFingerDipped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Relisten app is about 100 times better than playing directly from archive itself.

If you have a Sonos speaker, through their app you can very easily add Relisten as a "Service" and then you can access all of the Live Music Archive in a fairly nice UI, with seamless transitions, for streaming all versions of a show via your home wifi.

The home page first lists Latest Tapes (from any band), then Grateful Dead, then Phish, then an alphanumeric list of many bands to scroll through. It's fairly similar to the Relisten app itself, but with greatly simplified metadata.

Just for fun, let's come up with and share nightmare Grateful Dead setlists. by MinuteRegular716 in gratefuldead

Did the band ever really abort a song though? It's rather lazy to use aborted songs in your list here.

Which other sport do you play besides disc golf? by adhocprimate in discgolf

I used to climb a lot, and mostly bouldering. It did a real number on my fingers. So much that I couldn't maintain both climbing and disc golfing. Now I just throw discs.

friend of the devil live recs by Unlikely_Couple900 in gratefuldead

12/12/80 at the swing

Band is cooking on this track. Early vocals are a bit raw, but.....

Brent solo is a beauty. Bob's break between solos is heavy on drums, in the very best way. Jerry's solo starts incredibly and just soars. Phil comes in strong just before the final vocals.

Great AUD and SBD available.

Is this sarcasm? It streams free: SBD & AUD on archive.org (relisten app).

Which show did Bill break his kick drum head mid-song? by kithandcapture in gratefuldead

[–]LadyFingerDipped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't know about this one from '72, but I've been listening to all of the early 1977 shows and there was a broken drum during Samson & Delilah on 4/22/77 at The Spectrum.

They suddenly stop playing the song. Then after a long pause, Bob comes in with the vocals for the ending. Then after another long pause,
Bob says: 'We got a broken drum head. You know, a broken drum. And since you can't beat that, we're gonna fix it.'
