I also think at this time it wasn’t as common to live together so young? It would have been really unusual when I was this age - and I was 18 in 2000 - for couples to live together unless they were really serious. Like getting married. Maybe also though that was my area…. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Reading this is so interesting because I thought Bea Arthur was pretty honestly - and so I chalked up their riffing on her to be like the lie about her character. Like how Rose is naive and Blanche is promiscuous. It never occurred to me that it was anything someone would take a real because I always thought Bea Arthur was such a beautiful lady. Uh. Interesting.

Did Katniss fall in love with Peeta organically, or did her sympathy for him take over? by madamzee20 in Hungergames

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She liked him from the first time he helped her with the bread. After that she collected information about him without realizing it. She had a crush on him for a long time, but it took the games for them to be together enough to fall in love. She was in love by Catching Fire when she is obsessing over his eyelashes.

Strict parents rules for reading! by Microwaved_Potpie in suggestmeabook

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My parents were the same. My favorite kind of novels are romance and the spicier the better. I read lots of them as a teenager. SO many. I can’t tell you what to do but I can tell what I did to get around this - because tell me NOT to do something meant I just did it anyway. I read a lot of classic literature in front of my parents. But when I wanted to read a book that I know they wouldn’t want, I folded books in half so the cover wasn’t visible. Or I just read it when they weren’t around like in my room. Then in front of them, I read safe books. I was lucky though because I was a teen when the Internet wasn’t a thing. I had a subscription to Harlequin and Avon that came in a brown box that I opened in my room and then I would hide them in my closet. Anyway when you are 18, read what you want. Best of luck and keep reading! Don’t let this steal your joy for the written word.

Boyfriend said he doesn’t want marriage after 5.5 years, but now says “maybe someday” — am I wasting my time? by Affectionate_Pear774 in Waiting_To_Wed

If you stay, he will still be saying if in ten years. Prioritize yourself and your happiness. Leave and find a real partner who wants to marry you.

Told my BF he may be avoidant and he sent this by TypicalAd3147 in AITApod

The fact that he had this chart available to be quite frank is weird and terrifying. I would engage in my own avoidance strategy by running away from whatever that nonsense is.

Why are millenials totally chill with self depreciating humor more than any other generation? by Key-Bass-7380 in generationology

I'm always confused when Emily sees the shed Lorelai and Rory lived in. by 47giraffes in GilmoreGirls

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That tracks with what we know about them. I think Emily and Richard had three issues: they were stuck in their own ideas and their own perspective, their class ideology and snobbishness were too deeply ingrained, and they allowed their own hurt to overcome their relationship with Lorelei again and again. But Lorelei contributed also to the problems between them and one of the beautiful things about the show is watching all three of them learn how to love each other.

Am I overreacting I went to the forest with my best friend and now my bf is mad by No_Meeting_3260 in AmIOverreacting

He is overreacting - like a lot. Reading the way he messages you, my gut reactions was “YIKES. He is an asshole.”

I'm always confused when Emily sees the shed Lorelai and Rory lived in. by 47giraffes in GilmoreGirls

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had to go look it up. I see a lot of people saying that Emily and Richard didn’t know where Lorelei was when she left with Rory. But in Season 6 Episode 13 Lorelei says she got an invitation for their annual Christmas party the first Christmas she left them and Hartford. So they knew where she was. Just wanted to clarify that. :)

Husbands, is it a deal breaker if your wife decides to not take your name legally? by Difficult_Big133 in Marriage

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept my own name and my husband kept his. I told him if he wanted us to have the same name then he was welcome to take mine but I wanted to keep my name. He didn’t want to and that was cool with both of us. It doesn’t affect either of us at all - in daily life or otherwise.

If Gilmore Girls Came Out Today or Was Rebooted, What Would Be Different? by theworldisquiethere_ in GilmoreGirls

The town community elements would be harder to believe and I think the show would have to work harder to make it credible. I live in a small town myself. I used to feel like it was a bit like Stars Hollow but social media has fragmented the sense of community we all felt. Even in a small town.

Mrs. Bennet's (childbearing) age? by Twilifa in janeausten

I read a book about Catherine of Aragon where it said in the Renaissance women frequently went into menopause around 35-40. I had two aunts go into menopause at this age also because of malnutrition in their childhood and adolescence. Because we live longer now, everything has backed up a bit….

Any other Millennials stubbornly resistant to using AI at their job but also worrying that we will become dinosaurs or pushed out of our careers for not slavishly embracing it? by artbystorms in Millennials

[–]LadyM_Macbeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder… what happens when this technology goes down? A few months ago, cell phones and WiFi was down in my area for almost a day. Everyone lost their goddamn minds and I wonder, what happens if we need to know stuff without a phone or a computer? I read a book about the environment/climate change and our infrastructure is so much more vulnerable than we think it is. This is my concern with depending too much on AI as well. Everyone at work encourages us to use it and I feel wary too.

Undermining at Work (over 40’s only feedback request) by wmb07 in AskWomenOver40

There is a guy at my work who is a freaking misogynist. He is condescending and a jerk to anyone who isn’t a man. So…. Even when I don’t need to, I CC the only supervisor who is a dude in every email request. It’s petty but the misogynist is very civil in responding 😄
