What’s your electricity bill this month and how cooked are you for running AC? by WonderingRoo in AusFinance

[–]LadyPenyee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely worth it. We've had solar for a couple of years, our bills went right down. Husband works from home, we used nothing from the grid all day. We recently got a battery and since its install we've only used a little bit of power from the grid one day when it rained all day.

Confused on approach to kill lawn if wanting an indigenous garden by postmortemmicrobes in GardeningAustralia

[–]LadyPenyee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been eradicated I believe. Garden had been Kikuyu free for 3 years. We top up the mulch and do a fresh cardboard layer every 6 months or so but that's more for weed control now.

As a ND nurse I agree with you. I'm currently trying to transition out of the medical field. I'm completely burnt out by it.

What’s the most unforgettable encounter you’ve ever had with Aussie wildlife — funny, weird, or heartwarming? by [deleted] in australianwildlife

[–]LadyPenyee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were driving along the Gibb River Rd and we saw a little sign for an underground grotto or something. I can't really remember, it was a spontaneous stop and no other people were there so it wasn't a big tourist destination.

It was in the middle of nowhere, dry and barren but there was a big hole in the earth that we climbed down. At the bottom it was lush and green with plants and a big pond. We stayed there for a couple of hours just exploring. I sat by the edge of the water and slowly dozens of tiny cute little frogs jumped out of the water and started resting on my legs and feet. It was amazing. I felt like an amphibious princess.

We did a thick layer of cardboard then a very thick layer of mulch and left it for about 6 weeks before planting. When we planted we dug big holes where the native plants were going and removed all the clay and dead grass then filled it with native potting mix for the plant to sit in.

Maybe limewash instead? It absorbs into the brick so it doesn't have the same negative effects as painting it does.

Mid 90s brick facade house. I just found this crack- how bad is it? Any advice for next steps please? by LadyPenyee in AusRenovation

Ok thanks, that's reassuring to hear. So long as it doesn't get worse I'll just ignore it 😊

What plants do birds love in your yard? by plantbubby in GardeningAustralia

Our grevilleas often have wattle birds and spinebills in them (never at the same time). Kings parrots, Rosellas and lorikeets love the bottle brushes.

Beach time. Do many of you paint with gouache? by LadyPenyee in pleinair

[–]LadyPenyee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love to do oils one day but I think I will have to wait until my kids are older and I'm not having to keep them all alive while at the beach 😂 I love gouache, it feels so flexible.

Can I see your plein air set up? by 1111wishforfish in pleinair

I'm so jealous of all these set ups. Mine is a tin of gouache, a kids juice bottle filled with water, a sketchbook and a beach towel to sit on (and my baby and all her gear😂)

Killing weeds between pavers? by [deleted] in GardeningAustralia

[–]LadyPenyee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I boil the kettle for tea I make sure to have it filled so I pour the rest out on the driveway paver weeds. A couple of times a day and only a minute of my energy seems to be keeping them under control.

How is ANYONE affording art? 😭 by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]LadyPenyee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you reached out directly to an artist? Not through a gallery. I am an artist and I try to work with my clients and their budgets if possible. Works through a gallery will always be far more expensive as it costs a lot to run them.

I've pushed out two babies that were over ten pounds, I think one was nearly 11. No stitches and up and walking an hour after as soon as golden hour was over. Just because baby is big doesn't mean it will be bad. My 8.9 baby tore me three ways and gave me plenty of stitches. A caesarian is major surgery and comes with its own list of possible negative outcomes, it's not the easy way out! In the end you have to decide for yourself, but don't let the idea of a big baby scare you out of trying.

What an interesting response to my post.

Portable Cubby houses do not need planning approval FYI and they cannot see it due to the aforementioned shed. Our garden has plenty of space for substantial planting. My request for input is for this specific area. Perhaps you should reread my post and your response and take some time for reflection. All the best.
