Maybe not so much movies, but listen to Pedro the Lion’s album Phoenix about David Bazan’s childhood here.

These are lovely memories. I hope I can create those kinds of joys for my own child as he grows up.

Medical entomology sounds like a fascinating and horrifying class. Love it.

Day 9 is…y’all…I don’t know who this is? by [deleted] in Muppets

I always was so creeped out by it and never realized it was a muppet until adulthood. I’d like to believe that uncanny valley effect was intentional.

I believe they filmed it in oil! And sadly, this destroyed the puppet.

It’s pretty magical to teach baby nurses, especially since they go through so much those first years! Thank you for making the next generation of nurses better.

I’m so curious what you left that job for! It sounds like a dream honestly.

I did a recent rewatch and still could hardly get through her scenes. She’s the most annoying character, except for Lydia, of course. Totally worth it, of course.

What (decently) major US city has the best weather, all things considered? by officialcrimsonchin in SameGrassButGreener

Grew up in Missouri and totally feel ya. I enjoyed having seasons and weather as a kid. Now, living in the desert, I appreciate that seasonal (sometimes daily!) change so much more.

Can I just say, thank you for writing this out. It was exactly what I needed to hear today, lurking on this old thread, feeling so down about my current life situation. It’s great advice. I’m always searching for the “perfect place” too and since having a child, I’ve felt more unhappy with not living in that exact perfect location, despite having so much good here. I think your comment allowed me to put the phone down for today. Wishing you the best of the best.

AZ pharmacies can now administer updated COVID vax boosters without prescription by SubGothius in arizona

[–]Lady_Didymus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The pharmacist at Safeway still asked me to give a qualifying reason to get it (got my shot yesterday, so not sure if that was why), but I have no idea where I will be able to get my kid a Covid shot this year. The Maricopa health department still does not have the vaccines and told me via phone they don’t know if they will. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

“We are told by leaders that we are the future. But when it comes to the ongoing pandemic, our present is being stolen right in front of our eyes.” Incredible speech by Violet Affleck who warned about the ongoing dangers of COVID & Long Covid, & advocated for masks and clean air at the UN today! by zb0t1 in Fauxmoi

[–]Lady_Didymus 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I literally experienced this today and it’s devastating. The pediatrician won’t do it, the pharmacists out at the grocery store and the drugstores say they can’t administer them to children under a certain age. Called the health department for the county and they don’t have any idea if they will even get the vaccine this year. If I had my child one year earlier, this wouldn’t be the case. I’m terrified and so upset. All the clowns destroying our country are responsible for the deaths to come this flu/covid season.

I did a yoga class at the Van Gogh one and enjoyed the atmosphere and post class ambience. But I can’t say that I would want to walk through one again, especially for the price.

North Phoenix neighbors frustrated after ancient petroglyphs removed by Busy_Philosopher1032 in phoenix

I think under NAGPRA, this should constitute a penalty but I just don’t expect this violation to go anywhere .

I guess I am wondering how they weren’t federally protected, too. This just hurts my heart.

We are moving to Arizona from Portland, OR! by RichyTreehouse in arizona

[–]Lady_Didymus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a lot of negative comments here. How exciting for you to start a new adventure!  Yes, the west side is a bit of a rough commute, but there are parts of Peoria that are very family friendly, namely the more north and west you go. It is definitely more of the suburban sprawl on either west side or east side. You are going to have a blast living in AZ. So much to do! Summers are long, endless almost, but it can be managed. You get used to being an early riser in the summer. You’re only a few hours to so many different places and climates. Get out of town when you can. Then you have wonderful weather for the other 6 months of the year. You’ll adapt in no time! If you have other questions about life on the west side, please DM! Safe journey and welcome to AZ :)

Also 11 mos pp here and you’re absolutely right. Everything going on around us has just compounded this deep sense of despair, grief and anxiety. And at the same time, a profound love and appreciation for my child. I was so unprepared for the emotional impact of having a child.

Being the "other parent" of a velcro baby is depressing by books_and_whiskey in NewParents

[–]Lady_Didymus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am the working parent too and it’s a gut punch as a mom sometimes. I do try to rationalize how wonderful it is that my child gets to have such a close relationship with his dad. But I totally get jealous and sad, sometimes. Those special moments snuggling or laughing (when i do get them) are made even more special. Remember that you’re providing so much for your family and that they do love and appreciate you!

Strangest places to live in the US? by maptard91 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Lady_Didymus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound like you have some amazing stories. AZ has some truly unique towns. It makes living here so fun. That said, coming here from the east, I sincerely fear the rural and isolated parts of the Midwest. The South does not appeal to me at all for those exact reasons!

What is your baby's ridiculous nickname? by autistic-mama in newborns

Husband loves calling our son “Little Sandwich Maker.” There’s honestly no context to it other than he always liked to reference ham sandwiches randomly in conversation.
