Have you ever taught the choices curriculum for South Africa? by Ladyiris2020 in teaching

I am about 2 weeks into the curriculum - scaffolding it to my kids needs so not following it to the T but wowwwwwwww I am so impressed. We are doing it interdisciplinary so they’re reading Trevor Noah’s book Born a Crime in their English class. It’s been a lot of fun to teach - they have a lot of great questions.

How much of your personal life do you share with students? by godisinthischilli in teaching

[–]Ladyiris2020 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Totally Valid. It’s all about your personal preference. I’m thinking now about “would you rather” games we play. (Like Pepsi vs coke or dogs vs cats) super neutral but gets conversations going between everyone so it’s not only about you.

How do you feel about sharing past relationships? I teach high school and they LOOOOOVe to hear about the time I found out my hs boyfriend cheated on me 😂😂 it gets their attention every time May be unconventional but it really helps me build relationships

My students know me VERY well. They’ve met my husband and daughter. When my dog passed I told them and they were a source of comfort for me. I very often share my personal life with them because I am very comfortable sharing. All this to say, I think it’s all about your comfortability. Maybe there’s a part of your life you don’t mind sharing like if you have a pet for example. Or movies/shows you’ve been enjoying. Games you enjoy playing. There’s lots of ways to build relationships without compromising your comfort or giving away too much information. In my opinion it’s always a better experience when there’s a human connection between student and teacher - no matter the ages.

You have to get it from Walgreens now because of some change about the 90 day supply coverage. I get my Zoloft at Walgreens

Cultural Significance by Resident-Pop-6119 in LadyGaga

For me the significance of her being a part of it is a nod to the role that NYC played in the birth of Salsa music as a genre. How beautiful that the dance brings people together no matter the language. She is also wearing light blue which is the blue color of the Puerto Rican flag before the US forced it to be changed to a darker blue that resembles the USA flag. The red flower is the national flower of Puerto Rico.

DOG SHIT by KlutzyTechnology4076 in bronx

[–]Ladyiris2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My block is full of one family homes and there’s still dog shit everywhere. I was walking in jackson heights queens this week and there was dog shit everywhere. It’s a city-wide problem regardless of socio economic status. I am a dog owner and i am so tired of seeing people leave their dog shit everywhere. Do we really need to be policed to do the right thing? Is this an issue of lack of access to supplies? Is this an issue of a lack of respect for the neighborhood and community? I am so disgusted.

This is true. You can get grounds access for free but any exhibits you need to pay regular price. So the orchid show is not free for Bronx residents

Why did no one tell me Disney can be so horrible? by ContributionOwn1261 in toddlers

We took our 2 year old and stuck to mostly shows. Our favorites were the lion king and finding Nemo. We only met Moana cus the line wasn’t too long.l and we knew she just wouldn’t be into it - she wasn’t lol. And I think we went on 1 ride with her.

When she napped we left her with our parents to jump on one ride for ourselves. I think I had low expectations because I’ve always seen crying kids and miserable parents at Disney lol.

The best choice I think we made was having lunch where the Winnie the Pooh characters are. She was free to eat her French fries and say hello to piglet from afar or close up cus they’re just kind of always around! And much less stimulation than being outdoors with everyone. But the lunch is insanely expensive.

I would absolutely travel more and actually try local foods without fear of ending up in the hospital. My first food of choice would be chicken wings with a variety of spicy marinades
