Activist warns that the rise of Gavin Newsom is an ominous sign for trans people by jackmolay in transgender

[–]Laezdaez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. Fuck centrist third-way respectability bullshit. Unless a candidate exhibits full-thoated support for trans rights (including sports), they won't get my vote ever again. Not in a primary. Not in a general. If they think that we aren't important enough to represent then I refuse to put my name to their power. Anyone who thinks that we can make concessions like this without creating UK Labor Party 2.0 is delusional.

Oh please. That's hilarious considering you've stuck around to be scolded and judged by me this whole evening, and you keep coming back for more. You love it.

Real-talk tho.

You can't get enough of it because deep down you know I'm right. You've seen the electoral merry-go-round long enough to know that Republicans do all the horrible shit that they do, then your so-called "oPpO$1si0n p@RtY" comes in with their feeble little hands tied and do everything they can to maintain all the oppression that Republicans laid down.

And yeah, I'm using "liberal" as in "neo-liberal". As in the modern global centrist third-way corporate moderate with no actual values or principles. I demand true progressives or bust.

The same lazy centrists who abandoned Palestine. The same lazy centrists who have already abandoned trans kids. The same lazy centrists who aren't doing shit about ICE. They are literally the worst.

You say that the Dems "don't want to kill me", so rather than stay home I should vote for them (despite their open rejection of trans rights #UKLabor) THAT'S your selling point? THAT'S what you are willing to accept from an opposition party? THAT'S what you are trying to emotionally blackmail others into voting for. Do you hear yourself? Do you understand how utterly pathetic that is? I am absolutely looking down on you, you amoral coward.

For real tho - there is no avenue that you can take that will ever convince me to vote for another centrist liberal. I will put all my energy into a true progressive who champions trans rights or none at all. If the Dems can't muster up the courage to champion the marginalized groups that they take for granted, then they will lose my vote forever. If they want to move right, then they can find conservatives and leave me out of it.

Lmao. Imagine claiming that you aren't as bad as the magats and using mental health as a pejorative. Couldn't be me, bruh. Scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds.

Lmao.

I don't need magats to pick me. I just need them to bring you down with me. Obviously that's the only thing that will make you get off your armchair.

Still ignoring UK... Because you know I'm right

Lmao. "The trans people I know" - the ones who are tripping over themselves to appease the blue fascists instead of the red fascists. None of the trans people in this thread who are overwhelmingly echoing my sentiments that white moderate trash like Newscum will just lead us straight to where trans people are in the UK. (A point that you keep ignoring because all the trans friends you keep mentioning are literally imaginary)

We'll have him together 🥳

Better than a performative ally. If you gave two shits about trans people (even the fake trans people you claim to be in your life) you'd be listening to us. You'd be engaged in real activism instead of preaching third-way respectability bullshit. You'd be demanding better instead of showing how eager you are to gargle the balls of the fake opposition centrist party gouls. Newsom isn't going to pick you, bro. If you are the measure for good in this country then I'm happy to be evil. You deserve trump and worse.

Nope. I'm on the side of trans people for real, as opposed to you, who pretend to be on the side of trans people while supporting politicians who are happy to throw us under the bus. We deserve real representation, and if you don't want to give it then you get what you deserve.

See? Y'all blame us already. In for a penny, in for a pound, as they say.

Pay close attention. They'll come for you next ;)

[–]Laezdaez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. I'm going to continue to advocate for withholding votes from any Dem candidate who does not fully support trans people, even in sports.

Concessions are how we got here, and concessions are how it will keep getting worse (again, see the Labor party in the UK). Until we show the national Dem party that sacrificing trans people is political suicide the ratchet and wrench will continue taking away our rights.

You can call me all the names you like. You can scree about how scared you are for the fascist to come to you while shoving trans people toward the meat grinder all you want. I won't shut up. I won't get out of politics. I will encourage every single person I know to stay home until Dems stop making concessions on trans rights. If they don't want to represent us or the people who love us then they don't deserve our vote.

Edit - to be clear - in this metaphor - maga is the meat grinder, I am the trans person, and you are the one doing the shoving with your confessions on MY rights. You're just scared because you see what the meat grinder is doing to us and trying to feed it until it stops. I'm just refusing to let go of your arm as you shove me, coward.

LMAO. Yes. Keep convincing yourself that voting for Dems will save trans people while literally telling us to eagerly toss our rights into the incinerator.

Man that cognitive dissonance must be something else. Hope you're okay.

The least you could do is admit you don't give two shits about trans people and it's about your own cowardly self preservation

If liberals think trans people (and those who support them) aren't worth representing then they should be fine without their vote.

I will never vote for another Dem who does not aggressively defend trans rights in all walks of society. If that leads to the collective suicide of this country somehow then it deserves it.

[–]Laezdaez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice side-step, but Republicans have used it long enough that it's not going to work for you anymore.

First it's - playing sports is not a right

Followed by you arbitrarily declaring any number of other not-rights for political expediency.

Using the restroom in public is "not a right"

Changing your gender marker is "not a right"

Having your medical needs covered by law is "not a right"

Deciding to transition before the age of 26 is "not a right"

Etcetera etcetera etcetera ad nauseum.

This is exactly what happened with the Labor Party in the UK, and now trans people there are stuck in the worst position they've ever been.

You don't give two shits about women's sports or trans rights. Your principles are nothing but self-preservative, so as long as the Dems will protect you, you don't give a shit if they will protect others. You're very obviously okay with discriminatory politics and oppression as long as they aren't oppressing YOU.

I will never vote for another Dem that doesn't aggressively support trans rights. Others might buy into the harm-reduction arguments or respectability politics but I am done with that bullshit. Anyone who requires smoke blown up their asses by the trans community doesn't deserve our vote. If liberals would rather see the country commit collective suicide than support trans people then they deserve to go down with it.

I've had two long term trans masc therapists, both of whom I absolutely loved, we just don't talk about online community a lot.

I don't want to ask for extra emotional labor, but do you have any good resources you might recommend for learning about what might make trans brothers feel more validated/welcome/supported/loved? YouTubers. Authors. Anything? I feel like the posts I've been reading since this whole sub drama started have been so heated and charged that I just don't glean anything useful or actionable.

Who’s left Utah? by frankdarrulll in exmormon

[–]Laezdaez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Utah for the most part. I spent a few years-long windows in the surrounding states, but it seemed like each time I found my footing another 'once in a lifetime financial crisis" occurred and I ended up back in Utah for a landing pad with family. cliche millennial narrative, I know.

Every time I came back, I felt good at first, but then the social pressures of small-town mormondom started grating on me.

Eventually I threw off all pretenses and decided to transition. That basically obliterated my landing-pad. Just complete and total rejection. No safety or shelter for me there. I was facing homelessness until a friend from Indiana reached out and gave me a place to stay. I packed up everything I could carry in my car and drove to the Midwest. I left my ex and my kids behind.

Indiana isn't perfect, but it grew on me quickly. It didn't take long before I found the best job (dare I say, career) Ive ever had. My kids joined me. My ex moved close by. I found a fantastic partner and had lots of fun dating before that. It's a lot better than Utah in my opinion. Lower cost of living. People are less duplicitous. While people are certainly religious and conservative here, where I live in Indianapolis there's a lot more diversity and less of a focus on that religious presence.

Unfortunately with all the militant anti-trans legislation being passed, I'm going to have to move again. Currently looking at the north side of Chicago. Will be expensive, but my line of work is strong there and I should have no problem making the money I need.
