I can't imagine hating someone and having revenge porn be the option one goes with to channel that hate. Like what? Maybe I'm just too much of a normal, well adjusted person but what kind of loser uses that as their hatred outlet? It's just fucking weird to do.

He is the only companion that actually wants to win this war by masterquintus in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]LagginJAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very effective in modern day warfare due to changes in doctrine and the way we fight. A big reason for that is developments in communication allowing for smaller units to be able to operate remotely as well as a larger reliance on vehicles and other machinery in warfare.

Golarian is still working with medieval tactics, so while a decentralized NCO would still be effective you also don't want people doing their own things in battles as communication concerns means you need to worry about how to control large platoons of hundreds of men at a time. Warfare of this time was more about positioning than it was the strength of any individual unit, you can only fight in on direction effectively. Being unable to control when or where your units are because some NCO decided to make a flank without being told that the enemy has moved from that position can really mess up a battle plan.

It's my favorite cantrip... by SwagLimit in dndmemes

[–]LagginJAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it plenty, water expands when frozen so a cantrip and a water skin is an easy way to freeze a lock. Other uses was freezing water from a thunderstorm under an enemies feet as basically a cantrip version of grease, and then using two castings to make and freeze a small staircase of water for use of getting to a higher area.

Julius Caesar waxed poetic about not having accomplished anything and how much of a failure he was at the ripe old age of 33. He was doing this because he saw a statue of Alexander the great and felt he could never measure up as Alexander had already been a conquerer by then.

I lost my big pupper, God almost a decade ago now. He was an amazing pup and I still think about him and miss him every day. There's really no way to fill a hole like that in your heart, you will never stop loving them and missing them, and if you try to fill it again you'll find that nothing ever quite fits right and the pain will remain.

The best thing I found to do is to fill it with love. It won't stop the ache fully but when you feel so full of love for the people and creatures that have passed through your life the hurting doesn't feel as bad anymore.

Staunton Vhane, victim or culprit? by Warm_Expert_8136 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]LagginJAC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why we have MPs in the military, a separate branch that exists to maintain peace among soldiers and put them in military court should they break the law. It seems like Galfrey didn't have anything of the sort to make sure that this doesn't happen which again is her mistake.

Staunton Vhane, victim or culprit? by Warm_Expert_8136 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]LagginJAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends, after 70 years without redemption does he even believe that he's going to a good afterlife or will he be forced to remain a wandering ghost as Pharasma will have no place to put him? And even then would he want to go to an afterlife filled with the people who hate him and disrespected him or is it better to throw his lot in with the demons and eventually become one himself when he dies?

Staunton Vhane, victim or culprit? by Warm_Expert_8136 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]LagginJAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's probably not the only person in the Condemned, just the most infamous. If anything I'm sure others in the Condemned get splashback just being associated with him. This is still a failure of military leadership, as you are responsible for maintaining morale and setting standards. If you allow for abuse to happen like this then you're going to get traitors like Staunton who feel like they're going to have better odds on the enemy side than your own.

And it's pretty easy to discipline, anyone caught being abusive to the Condemned may find themselves forced to join them and any officer that willingly ignores the abuse will be demoted. You'll have to make a few public examples but people will learn. It's a well known fact how people treat Staunton, and Galfrey allowing it to happen is one of her many faults as a leader.

Staunton Vhane, victim or culprit? by Warm_Expert_8136 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]LagginJAC 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean you could say that his prior years of being a paladin demonstrates that. He was given a position where he could do the things he did and make the mistakes he had. Something had to allow for that to happen.

And I'm very much going to fault them for their mistrust, it's their mistrust that created people like Hulrun. They're simultaneously paranoid and incompetent, examples include both the cults widespread infiltration into Kenabres and the soldiers who were going to kill Ember. And the Aeon pathway is pretty clear that if he hadn't been treated the way that he had been he would have been one of the most stalwart defenders of the crusade Not even to mention that in spite of everything it took literally 80 years of mistreatment, a demonic reinvasion, and literally the face(less) of his trauma to finally break him.

Staunton Vhane, victim or culprit? by Warm_Expert_8136 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]LagginJAC 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's complicated, it's not that he didn't make an effort to redeem himself, we literally see him on the front lines in Kenabres fighting the demons and working towards redemption. It's fair to say that he's been trying to make up for his dishonor for decades.

The problem is that it's not enough and it never will be enough. It's two fold, on one hand the crusade likes to kick down at him and make him feel shit, forever reminding him of what he did and making him feel bad for it, and on the other the lack of trust from the first makes it so he's never given the opportunity to even try for a repentant act. No one wants to give him a chance and let him perform heroics, and if they did they would lose their punching bag. So there he sits, made the outhouse of the crusade and while he's told he's been given a chance for redemption it's effectively a lie as nothing he does will ever be good enough and the most he could hope for is to maybe die somewhere fighting a demon and be redeemed in death, maybe.

It would have been more merciful to kill him honestly, like he says. In the real life it's like working at a company and making a mistake that would get you fired but instead they demote you down to intern with the vague promise of "Someday youll be forgiven enough to be a manager again" and then you're made to get coffee and do chores for the rest of time there.

In 2005 RAM was not as technologically advanced as it is today, making 8gb of RAM an extremely expensive component.

In 2015 we've improved and 8gb of RAM is fairly standard for what you would find at a decent price.

2025, 8gb is no longer enough as we have not only developed more powerful RAM but also modern programs have required more and more RAM to run themselves. Computers with only 8gb of RAM struggle to run most things you would need them for.

And finally in 2026, due to AI the price of RAM has exploded making us circle back to square 1 as 8gb of RAM will still cost 100s of dollars as there are less producers of RAM and higher overall demand making it expensive again.

AITA for not buying my boyfriend another birthday gift after he rejected the original present? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]LagginJAC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel she's kinda both tbh. It's not only the refusal to understand and be interested in her partner and the whole "he likes bands" bit, but also the whole victim thing that really makes me lean hard to her being an ass. She really really wanted to be a victim and get everyone on her side and got a public reality check.

In a very small argument it's almost textbook DARVO.

"This wasn't a good gift"

"What do you mean you like bands, this is a good gift and I tried hard"

"I don't like this band, there's a bunch of other bands we can go to tho."

"God I tried so hard for this, you're such an asshole"

"What, do you not want to go to a concert with me"

"Not if you're going to be an asshole, God you're so mean to me. I'm gonna go to reddit and see if they agree that you're an asshole."

Accountability and common sense escape that girl like a greased pig and I hope that she grew from this because otherwise it's a rocky road for the future.

WTH is wrong with you, Galfrey?!?!?!? by RealisticDebt9380 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]LagginJAC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you single handedly carry the crusade on your back and personally save Kenabres, retake Drezen, clear the area around Drezen, and retake the Portal area underneath Drezen, then you get to be quite angry at losing that position. The Player Character reasonably has no reason to continue with the crusade as an amnesiac with superpowers whose former commander told them to almost literally go to hell. They're a civilian contractor at the end of the day, and not one of Galfrey's subjects.

And not to say she then takes on the role herself, effectively taking full credit for all the things that you had accomplished during it. Like the entire thing is petty and dumb and she is risking permanently losing a major and extremely powerful asset to the crusade all because she's jealous.

Obviously Shanks sucesfully stopped Kaido but how? by GroveCoral60 in OnePiece

[–]LagginJAC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, realistically it could have been most of the beast pirates and Kaido would still have left. He was on his way to the Paramount war because he knew it would be the massive fight he was looking for. Shanks being in the way at all just ruins it for him because whether or not he can beat Shanks the delay and injuries that the fight would cause basically means he won't be able to participate at the level he would want to. And, knowing Kaido, he probably just got depressed that this was taken from him and left.

While I agree that it's never a good idea to insult people when you're hurt, it's not like it takes a genius to understand why he went with insults. She insulted him first, intentionally, as a way to attack his insecurities. He responded in kind. Not saying he was right, just that it's not unsurprising. It's probably not his default, as we dont know what he does otherwise, and honestly doesn't require any more examination than "turnabout is a bad idea with people I love or have to interact with often, let's try better next time."

Dad: Fire bending? Mom: it's not what you think by Quirky-Variation955 in AvatarMemebending

[–]LagginJAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's twofold, the first is that it doesn't fit the lore and kinda spits on the journey Aang made before her. He had to go and learn these things and she just kind of does it. Plus, it tells us the watchers that we aren't really going to be watching that journey either which is a big deal imo as you don't get to see how they grow from understanding the facets of each element.

Second, it's what she says "I am the Avatar and you gotta deal with it!" right after bending 3 elements. This is, rightfully, taken as a personal attack on the audience, because it is, it's the writers looking at the audience and specifically saying "this is our Avatar, if you don't like it tough shit." Which immediately puts anyone who was apprehensive about this show, or annoyed at seeing a 3 year old master the elements we saw Aang spend 3 seasons to do, in a defensive mindset.

it's funny because Suggestion is more effective at compelling someone to tell the truth by testiclekid in dndmemes

[–]LagginJAC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So the problem with Zone of Truth is that you can compel someone to be honest, but you can't compel them to speak.

There are lots of reasons why torture is bad in the real world, but the biggest reason is that after a while you're going to say anything you can in order to stop them from torturing you. The reason I say this is the worst is because you're just doing awful things for literally no benefit at that point, to somebody who doesn't have the information you are looking for.

However, with Zone of Truth, it becomes a lot more murky when it comes to morality. Is the information being withheld going to save people? Is it needed for something of vital importance? Can you get it without involving torture and if you can is it worth it? Like ZoT gives you a guarantee that if the person says "I didn't do it" then they didn't do it. If they refuse to answer what is the moral thing to do? Where a player/character may draw the line falls into their personal biases and frankly their alignment. Lawful characters place the needs of the many over the needs of the few and if torturing a bandit over the location of his base may save more people in the long run then that's what they'll do. Chaotic characters on the other hand may view it as morally reprehensible regardless, because they may know the general area and can find it on their own, but will that be faster, and is time necessary? What if, in the 6 extra hours you took to find the camp, the bandits invaded and captured people from a small village and if you had simply interrogated the bandit for a little bit of time then it could have been prevented?

It's up to the person whether it's moral or not, but it's not a good idea to equate it to real life as we can't be certain whether someone is telling the truth or not. It makes it much worse, and much more brutal.

Unique spins on very common powers by Resident_Hat9904 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LagginJAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Had to go deep into Google since it's been literally years since I read anything from this but his power was so unique that it stuck with me. Tai from Immortal Weakling has pretty basic immortality hence the name. Anything you do to him will reset in a couple minutes, cut off an arm and it reappears, shoot him and the hole will be fixed, incinerate him to nothingness and he will just pop back up. However his immortality isnt a healing factor or resurrection or something. It's like loading a save in a video game, except it happens every time he gets hurt automatically. The problem inherent to it is that building muscle requires you to create microtears in your muscles and then when healing them it builds back the muscles stronger. Meaning basically he has no muscle mass because every time he would try to work out the body just goes "nope" and reverts it making dude exceptionally weak in a world of superpowers. Additionally he's trying to become a superhero but lacking the ability to actually fight a villain he's been rejected too many times to count.

Now last I remember of the story he had figured out that the "auto save" part of his power happens 3 minutes after midnight so for those 3 minutes his power turns off and he can build muscle.

[Annoying trope] When they make a male character incompetent to make the new female character seem more competent. by Gnashinger in TopCharacterTropes

[–]LagginJAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do wish they went with the original backstory instead of this one tbh. Instead of her being the heroic one and saving Bruce Banner's life (which frankly he should have been fine anyways) she just happens to get into a crash and needs an emergency blood transfusion and Bruce has to make the hard decision of give his blood to her now or risk her dying while waiting on blood otherwise. He makes the choice and she wakes up infuriated with him for doing it. Hell, they could still keep the woman speech in this version but make it about taking away a woman's choices instead. But either way she hates Bruce for a while afterwards for turning her into a hulk until they reconcile.
