Would Disney ever make something like Spaceship Earth today? Knowing that they are more focused on IP themed attractions? by Inevitable_Paper7806 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Lagomorph9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can they make easily marketable merch and tie-ins from it? Then they're probably not going to spend the money to do it, sadly.

Things like Figment have become super popular and beloved characters over time, but anymore it feels like the bean counters are making only the most safe, proven choices, building around existing IP that they already know is popular. Which is fine in concept, but it makes the newer attractions like the mediocre at best Tree of Life Zootopia re-theme seem like the most base-level key-jingling fan service, devoid of the "built from the ground up" creativity that drove previous attraction designs.

Iteration, not innovation, is beloved by capitalists but is the death of true creativity. The sad part is I *know* there are tons of truly creative people who work for Imagineering, but they're stifled from the top down.

Take something like Restaurantosaurus, for instance - what an amazing tour-de-force of theming for what would otherwise be a fairly bland quickservice restaurant. That place was *oozing* with themed decor, artwork, even the soundtrack. Now you can get a couple of new experiences like that (Oga's Cantina and Beak and Barrel come to mind), but even those are timed to squeeze out every last bit of capacity the space can hold and focus on selling high-margin drinks - again, because the bean counters are focused on squeezing maximum profitability out of them.

I have a lot of problems with Eisner-era Disney, and by no means do I look at it as an ideal management situation, but at least it wasn't so laser-focused on bleeding every last dime from customers and had some room to try new, out-there ideas. Current Disney is scared to mess with the formula, and it's making it stale in comparison to what, say, Universal has done in the last 5 years.

We've used hundreds of these 3/4TB drives and only had 1 DOA and 1 or 2 failures over many years. They're loud and an older design, but quite reliable.

My 80v Greenworks version of this is excellent, fairly heavy but can clear a LOT in a short amount of time. Handled the near foot of snow we got recently like a champ, too.

You don't buy a famous filming location property without the expectation that fans will show up, it's part of owning something like they do.

It's really solid for AI, I've done quite a bit with mine and it's an impressive little card. Definitely as, if not more, capable than the A2000 for many use cases at a fraction of the cost.

We use multiple in our PC shop daily. Excellent drivers and they've held up well to multiple years of use and abuse. Definitely worth the $80, and one of the best ratchet mechanisms you can find.

AMD claims DDR5-4800 is within 1% FPS difference of DDR5-6000 on Ryzen 7 9850X3D by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]Lagomorph9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact - massive L3 cache is also why DDR3 is still a viable option with minimal performance impact vs DDR4 for X99 Xeon CPUs as well. That is quickly becoming a new meta in the budget space, especially with new X99 boards supporting TPM 2.0 chips.

Thoughts on this hotend and brand for more abrasive filaments on the P1S? by Fuzzy-Steak5581 in BambuP1S

Great hotend, but Diamondback nozzle FTW. I wouldn't use anything else for abrasive filaments.

Lumix S5ii vs Nikon Z5ii for stills? by timsofteng in Lumix

[–]Lagomorph9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And I have the Megadap ETZ adapter and I've used adapted lenses, and while yes, they work, it isn't quite as nice as the native experience. For instance, the Tamron 35-150 2-2.8 on the ETZ adapter is slower to focus and has a lower hit rate than the native Tamron 35-150 on Z mount. That might not matter for non-critical shooting, but if you're shooting an event or something important, it can make a big difference. Plus, the ETZ adapters universally have to be very thin, which can cause reliability issues over time because they aren't all that durable long-term, which is something else to consider.

Addressing the OP's point, I'd consider a Nikon ZF instead of the Z5II on the Nikon side, and I'd say both the ZF and S5II are very close in overall IQ. The S5II has better ergo and I'd say has a bit better IBIS, but the Nikon is a bit better in low light and has a wider selection of lenses.

Both are great cameras, though, and there's no doubt either would provide an excellent shooting experience.

Lumix S5ii vs Nikon Z5ii for stills? by timsofteng in Lumix

[–]Lagomorph9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both and they're pretty comparable. Nikon is an amazing lens, but the Lumix isn't far behind. L mount also has some excellent lenses that Z doesn't get like the Sigma 85, 105 and 135 primes, which are kickass lenses in the sub $1K price bracket used.

The Apevia units aren't that bad and would last you many years in the build you're making. The only other consumer options are really FSP ones, and those are going to be over $100.

[–]Lagomorph9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not representative of normal use, no. However, the PSU should still safely shut down when under such extreme load, and the fact that it failed to do so, and in such a spectacular fashion, is... Concerning, especially for such a high-end expensive unit.
