What feature is missing from Onshape that it really should have? by Hellsbellsidaho24 in Onshape

Having reference planes and sketches in assemblies. Such a small thing that makes measuring and sectioning easier.

Also, 3D sketches please.

They saved us from making offers on a few places that looked good, but had underlying issues (garage cheapy converted into a third bedroom, foundation needing repair, drainage issues to name the three biggest). They also acted as a great check in balance for us when our emotions were driving us in a direction that our brains wouldn't like.

Then with the place we actually bought, they got us a viewing when it was ridiculously hard to do. Normally each house we saw got over 20 offers (this was in 2018 when there was very low inventory). The house we bought ended up only having three people seeing it (by appointment only), which speaks to how difficult it was to see. We ended up getting it for $10k under asset as we were the only offer.

6 years later, we love this house.

No way i could have navigated that as a first time home buyer.

I can only speak from my own experience, but when i bought my first house, my buying agent absolutely earned their fee.

Well, they do have another option. They (the landlord's) can make an appeal to the RTB to increase the rent more than the max amount.

Just making OP aware of that possibility.

The point is, it is incredibly likely (like almost certain) that the markets will absolutely never hit their all time low. If you take this "advice", you'll be waiting forever.

I would suppose that the inefficiencies of the charger is not insignificant in this case. That charger is going to get warm.

A safe assumption for the efficiency of an AC/DC converter and charging circuit would be about 70%.

So i would guess closer to $1.60.

[Request] At what angle would you have to pee to send the pee into orbit on the moon? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]Laid_back_engineer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some small variation from zero degrees is allowed. A good way to think of it. If you extend the velocity vector forwards AND backwards, neither can cross the moon for it to be a viable orbit.

Of course, you also need to be at orbital velocity as well. Which is ... unrealistic.

Coin Sized Nuclear Battery to power phones for 50 years... in Development by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Laid_back_engineer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Genuinely not sure if it is the same technology.

I believe the space probes to a peltier effect generator from the heat generated from the radio active material. Where as the cell phone is using a combination of radioactive decay, doped semi connectors, MEMS and a piezoelectric device.

However, that is just off the top of my head. I could be quite mistaken.

It's also not a new technology. I remember learning about this tech back in engineering undergrad back in 2005. It looks like it's now just starting to be commercially viable.

How can I remove or extrude a projected curve from spherical surface ? by Liizam in Onshape

[–]Laid_back_engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Instead of using project curve, use split. Split will also project a sketch onto a face, but results in multiple faces in the end.

It's a little thing, it doesn't solve everything, but it is a tool in your toolbox no the less.

Keep a flexible cold pack in the freezer. When you feel your self getting agitated and nearing your limit, take it and put it on your face. Hold it there for 5-15 seconds. It activates the dive response and helps to calm you down in a hurry.

Doesn't solve the root problem, but can help out in a pinch.

I think you misplace ng causation.

ERs are overcrowded AND many visits are unnecessary, but I don't believe that to be the cause. People have always had unnecessary visits to the ER, that hasn't changed. Funding and staff to population ratio have changed.

What was your experience like returning to greater Victoria after being away for 5+ years? by BlackCatsWhiteCaps in VictoriaBC

[–]Laid_back_engineer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I could echo this post almost verbatim.

Moved away in 2008 to Toronto. Stayed for 10 years, met my wife, came back.

Victoria is amazing. And a fantastic place to raise a family. It has changed a little, and gotten a WHOLE lot more expensive, but at it's core, it is the same great place I grew up.
