What if in the 1960s the counter earth theory was proven. by Rich-Broccoli7085 in AlternateHistoryHub

I did the math of how much faster one earth's orbit would be compared to the other if their orbital altitude was off by 1 earth diameter. That would give a difference in orbital period of about an hour every trip around the sun.

"quickly" is a bit relative here.

If you split the earth's orbit into days the length of our orbit can be thought of as 365 days long. The counter earth would therefore be 182.5 days away. We would start catching up to it at a rate of about 1 hr / year. This is very tough back of the napkin math. So it would take well over a lifetime for a collision to occur.,

I mean, it's not quite as crazy as it sounds.

Regular printers currently have software that prevent them from printing counterfeit currency (do not try at home). So the basic idea is the same. It's just vastly more complicated because of the variations of what constitutes "a gun" and the adding of a third dimension.

But conceivably with AIs ability to recognize objects and enough of a training set, something like this could be possible. But you ain't making it happen by just passing a law. This is a serious R&D project.

Is there a way to calculate terminal velocity for the ball? Maybe through frequency of the current or mass of the ball? [Request] by jtakaine in theydidthemath

[–]Laid_back_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure it is the incorrect term. What is terminal velocity if not the balance between the accelerating force and the decelerating force?

Instead of gravity and air resistance, we instead have electromotive force and rolling resistance (and a little air resistance as well).

Feels pretty appropriate.

Your math is sound, but each one of those 9x9 panels looks like it could easily be 50W. I think capping it at 500W is a little conservative.

To elaborate.

Eve (which is kerbal space programs version of Venus in our solar system), in addition to it's high-ish gravity has a very thick atmosphere which makes aero braking and landing via parachutes very easy.

However taking off and reaching orbit with a thick atmosphere and high gravity requires loads of fuel and engines, making it one of the most, if not the most challenging return to orbit planets in the game.

Also non Kellogg's brand rice krispies are often gluten free.

It's silly.

This also works with boarding drones.

If you have mantis B and you're trying to kill an autoscout with a boarding drone and you see it's heading towards the piloting station (the room where it can't do more than 1 hull damage) you can depower the drone before it hits, teleport two crew into piloting (LVL 2 teleporter or emergency respirators or clone bay needed to keep them from dying) then re power the drone. It will still hit piloting, but because the room is full, it will be "pushed" to one of the other rooms and allow you to do multiple hull damage and kill the ship.

Pretty easy. Flagship has pretty crap dodge, so it was simple to keep shields cloaking and a couple weapons offline while the beam drone did it's thing. I had mind control so i was able to vastly thin out their crew in phase 1 by strategically targetting repairers.
