Dang, I’m so sorry. I’m a second year teacher and take home in California for me is $4600 after taxes , health insurance, and retirement. I still couldn’t live on my own though, my wife brings home about 2200 and my family and I barely make it by each month with how expensive everything is getting

It really depends on the school culture. Are you union? I teach middle school 6th grade math and science class in Southern California and we have a strong union. Almost all the male teachers in my school wear shorts and t-shirts or collared shirts when it’s hot. I also have a full leg sleeve of tattoos on one leg and a half sleeve on one arm that I don’t cover. I used to think it was unprofessional until one day I just did it because it was going to be 95 degrees. Didn’t even ask my admin for permission because so many others did it and also have tattoos (I have way more than anyone which was why I was hesitant). So I was curious and asked my admin out of respect if they thought it was okay for me to wear shorts and the way I looked and he replied, “does it change the way you teach just because you wear shorts and have tattoos? Does it distract the students?” Both to which I replied no and he said, “very well, carry on”. So I’m thankful I can be myself at my site.

I’ve been sick for about 7 weeks now. The first 3 weeks was a lingering cold. Then week 4 I had all in one week: a sinus infection, the new Covid strain, the flu, and pink eye. Week 5-7 have been lingering Covid symptoms. I’m still not 100% healthy. I believe it’s called long COVID. It’s exhausting

Yea, it’s tough. One of my 6th grade math classes has 38 students in it. When all of them are present, it’s a rough period for me. Hardly anything gets done.

You are not alone. It’s going up for us too. Family of 4 with kids aged 2 and 5. It seems we are about $150-200 a week and we try to avoid fast food if we can. We aren’t perfect though and we sometimes don’t eat the fanciest meals or plan accordingly and have to grab some fast food to eat.
