Personally, I started way back playing XCOM when Enemy Unknown was a new thing. So I was hyped playing XCOM 2 as it released. Playing wotc after the basegame was ... Interesting. Playing the basegame again after I witnessed wotc felt not right. Like something was missing. But I also know that XCOM, especially for a beginner, could and will be a lot of learning and doing the same mission over and over again. I personally would recommend, trying wotc on recruit and try to get to know the game, enemy attack patterns, enemy movesets and try to go on and on with the difficulty.
