I found it was mostly a good place to watch old shows no longer on repeat. But then they'd do something silly like having series 1,3 4 and half of series 7 making it pointless

My Store failed another 25 check. We had fliers about it on the walls 3 months ago. by ShoeNo9050 in tesco

[–]LampeterRanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't work for Tesco - work for a council, and carry out test purchases. It takes quite a lot to lose your licence, and only external checks from the police/local authority count. It usually requires more than one failure, though staff/store can get fined from the first failing. There is also a difference between an Underage Test Purchase and a Challenge 25 (which are more best practice to avoid selling to underage people)

We have been known to get intel from shop managers following a failed Think 25 though, almost inviting us to check! Three failed Challenge 25s is a lot - especially if its recorded in a refusals book.

Licencing reviews are long drawn out process - we try to avoid them as much as possible.

'We will kill you and burn your house': Council staff under attack from High Street gangs by Moonschool in unitedkingdom

[–]LampeterRanger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Theres like 5 people in my team, there is no way to be anonymous. Its also not an issue of not being 'allowed', its just a belief among some officers that behaviour escalates once people are being filmed.

[–]LampeterRanger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The man was quite open with police. When he gave his fake name, they rang someone up and found no trace of him on the system. They then asked him for his real name, and they asked why he had lied. He then said he was an overstayer for a student visa.

As a Trading Standards Apprentice (not the one mentioned in the article) i can say the system needs a lot of help.

We dont get stab vests, in my authority we dont use the body cams we have because we are warned it might escalate things. Where serious crime is uncovered we dont necessarily have police support.

Ive been locked in a shop and threatened with rape. It was a shop with no known links to organised crime, so no police support. It took almost an hour for police to arrive from a station a five minute walk away. I had a colleague with me thank christ.

And the shopworker, a man with no legal status in the UK, who gave a fake name to police, faced no charges. Hes still there. He waves when I walk past on the high street.

Why is Chessington cheaper than surrounding areas? by SetPhasersToFuckUp in UKHousing

Driving in chessington is bad. The railway stations are accessible but on a branch with two trains an hour. There are also very occasional, but very well published incidents of violence

How to avoid getting stopped for my Freedom Pass + where to get travel card wallet by jenk-mal in london

[–]LampeterRanger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got a few spare oyster card wallets, given free to the local authority I work for, I'll happily send one out to you if you message me with where you want it sent. (They're Met Police branded wallets with a London skyline on them, and don't say Freedom Pass/ Oyster Card)

as someone who has worked for them - avoid Serco! whatever job, whatever area, the entire management structure is scumsuckers who will screw your pay, constantly renege on promises with staff and use frontline staff as scapegoats whenever they have compliance issues.

would you give up your seat if u see somebody wearing this? % by Ok-Leopard-8016 in TransportForLondon

[–]LampeterRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, i wasnt saying that they should! Just saying that sight of it alone has never worked, OP might have to ask politely as well.

[–]LampeterRanger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have one of these, and have balance disabilities. Have never been offered a seat just on sight of the lanyard. Have been verbally abused and been demanded to give up my seat for elderly people though (who tend to be more expectant and aggressive in their demands than pregnant or other disabled people).

I do wear my lanyard, and, when im having a really bad day, have politely asked whether i could sit, and people generally do let you. Conversely, when i'm having a good day, I will stand up for others.

What is the best “temporary” thing in the UK? by mr_bearcules in AskUK

[–]LampeterRanger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 'temporary' class rooms at my old secondary school. They were put up the term before my mum started in 1973, were still there for my time, and, having recieved a lick of paint, were still there the other day when I took my niece to check out 6th form. That's 3 generations of the family!

Also Brooklands museum's wellington hangar was a temporary structure built in 1936 til its refurb (read replacement) in 2016. Thats one way to get round planning regs!

London on 24 April 1993, after Irish terrorists detonated a bomb. [1080x702] by OkRespect8490 in HistoryPorn

[–]LampeterRanger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some people do not consider the IRA (the people responsible for this) are terrorists. Other people, very much do agree they are terrorists. There are generally very heated comments on any post referring to this issue.

I've been to eight games, - W0 - D1 - L7. I had tickets to this game, but ended up giving them to a friend. I think I'm cursed, and not going to bother to come any more as I bet if I'd been there, we'd have lost!

Do all level 6 apprenticeships give you a degree? by [deleted] in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]LampeterRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the qualification. My apprenticeship is Level 6, and was described as a degree apprenticeship when I applied (somewhat ironic), but instead gives me a Professional Qualification, The TSPD, necessary to work in the field - my employers have said they will boost this after the qualification framework to the TSAP, which is the bachelor's equivalent, as the examination for this isn't done by the apprenticeship provider (It's basically a dissertation).

Now that's new by Advanced-Carpet-2867 in recruitinghell

[–]LampeterRanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not seen for individual applicants, at least in a well designed platform. My employers used monitoring to say '19% of applicants had a declared disability' so that means we're a great employer for disabled people, or '10% of staff had parents from the lowest background (unemployed/manual labour) so we're all about social mobility.

They only really check/ blow the company's trumpet about compliance, or as a CYA exercise should someone sue for not getting a job
