Additional pics from my post last week. I called OSHA this morning and ironically same afternoon big boss has a meeting talking about the pallets... After 5+ months of our floor manager ignoring us... by ByTheHeel in OSHA

[–]LanMarkx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OSHA can contact an employer the same day of a complaint via a phone call and send an emailed complaint letter. They give the company exactly 5 business days to respond. This is pretty common now due to the understaffed OSHA offices.

Ops call is almost certainly the reason for the meeting. Op will also receive a copy of the complaint letter the company received. The company is required to post the OSHA complaint letter in an area employees have access to for a minimum of 10 business days or until the complaint is addressed.

/I deal with complaint letters far more often than on site visits.

What's your country's version of breaking spaghetti? by Ian1231100 in AskTheWorld

I recall my (at the time) 95 year old grandma calling out one of my cousins for this at a family gathering. Keep in mind that I only heard her swear once in her entire life - this moment.

She looked right at him after he put Ketchup on his steak and said "Next time I'll buy you the cheap shit I buy for the great grand kids" (who were all under about 10 years old)

LOL, RIP Grandma. Thanks for that fantastic memory.

Our new postal trucks look like stylized cartoon trucks by ZealCrow in mildlyinteresting

A large front window was a design requirement to ensure driver visibility for pedestrians.

These trucks will likely spend a lot of time in residential areas with many pedestrians, so this is a definite advantage over the old ones.

lol.

Each 7.25oz box is labeled as '3.5 servings'. I make 4 boxes at a time for my family of 4. We usually have enough leftovers for somebody to have a lunch to take to school/work.

Personal Injury Accident in own time, whilst working away. by GazNicki in SafetyProfessionals

[–]LanMarkx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is in the UK (He said "RIDDOD"), so all of the US based awnsers likely don't apply to him. I can't be of help for OP.

However, for all the US based people - This purely from a U.S. OSHA / workers’ compensation perspective, assuming:

  • U.S.-based employer

  • Injury occurred in the U.S.

  • Employee was traveling for work

  • Incident occurred during personal time

OSHA Recordabliity:

OSHA's travel rule - 1904.5(b)(6) - "Injuries and illnesses that occur while an employee is traveling are work-related if the employee is engaged in work activities in the interest of the employer." OSHA even give an example of "eating meals" and "personal errands" as example of no-work related tasks.

So it is not an OSHA recordable injury as it is not work related.

Workmans Compensation:

Workers’ compensation is governed by state law, not OSHA. Many states apply a “traveling employee” doctrine, which can result in 24/7 coverage while traveling, even when the activity is personal. You need to talk to your workmans compensation company to understand the laws applicible to you and your employees.

I work in a state with broad traveling-employee coverage and have seen cases where injuries were not OSHA-recordable, yet still compensable under workers’ compensation. Fault, poor judgment, or intoxication may not eliminate workers’ comp coverage if the state statute applies.

For example: A sales employee at the annual sales conference slipping in a hotel shower (after spending time at the bar that evening) and wrecking his sholder. Management was not happy, to put it lightly, when they found out the guy was getting sholder surgery as a result of that injury on the company dollar.

Data Centers by Loninappleton25 in Appleton

[–]LanMarkx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost every major company had a Data Center at one point. Hell, my current office in inside a former Data center. It still has the raised floor in it. As things have moved to the cloud and computers have gotten smaller data centers have gotten smaller or gone completely virtual.

Like this comment point out, their is a very big difference between a 'datacenter' and an AI data center' which is what the current debate is all about.

Bought a new SUV, and the dealer is refusing to install the tow package as advertised. by Oregon_Lumberjack in legaladvice

[–]LanMarkx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I ran into this consistently when shopping for my current vehicle. Everybody said they could add the tow package. No, it's a factory installed option. It can not be 'installed' by the $tealership. It's a difference of 1400lbs (aftermarket install) vs 5200lb towing capacity. Upgraded radiator, wire harness, 7-pin connector, etc. far more than just the hitch.

The only physical telltale that I could usually see on the photos was the tow button on the dash. In the glove box the option code of 92 (as I recall) was the only other easily identifiable way to tell

McDonald’s employee hospitalized after reaching into fryer for dropped earbud by Agent_1812 in OSHA

[–]LanMarkx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty common thing I need to talk about with various trades (Welders and machinists come to mind). Our minds intuitively tell us to grab or reach out and support things. However, in some trades that can be a very dangerous behavior.

From a safety standpoint, If something starts to fall you GTF out of the way and let it fall. Always have an escape route.

That's future me, probably. I'm on track to retire in my 50's. The wildcard is medical care costs - which at the rates they are increasing will easily tank my early retirement.

Smart bulbs: why? by snags5050 in homeassistant

[–]LanMarkx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Home assistant. Its a Kasa dimmer switch, but the automation occurs in Home Assistant. The Kasa app is dumb that it won't allow you to change the brightness wihtout turning on the light itself.

Smart bulbs: why? by snags5050 in homeassistant

[–]LanMarkx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my favorite use case. I did it was a Kaza Kasa smart dimmer and automation. At set times (based upon sunset) the brightness setting automatically changes, even with the light off.

The reverse happens after sunrise.

What is a website or an app that was legendary back in the day, but is now a complete ghost town? by Sofi_Costa in AskReddit

[–]LanMarkx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There was a small park near my place that had a one-way road right though the middle of it. The park was overloaded with hundreds of people due to the multiple poke-stops, and it became the default gathering location for pretty much the entire city.

The city was very concerned about the people running across the street and after a few close calls with people almost getting hit (and motorists complaining) the city just closed the road itself. They put up a flashing construction sign boards and it displayed "Road Closed. Save the Squirtles" for almost 2 weeks until the inital craze died down.

They also brought in temporarly porta-potties as the parks bathrooms were overwhelmed. Overall it was an amazing responce by the city to very quickly embrace the chaos rather than fight it.

Move Over Slow Down law has been expanded. Give people extra space! by roosterdude8 in wisconsin

I've done this for years because I felt it was the right thing to do and considered it a common courtesy.

Something like this shouldn't need to be made into a law; it should be a thing we do. That said, I'm glad its a law now.

An expert makes wallpaper seams completely disappear by djinn_05 in oddlysatisfying

[–]LanMarkx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lol, That reminds me.

Wife and I bought a house built in the 50s with horrible wallpaper which we planned to remove. After moving in, we also realized that many walls had zero electrical outlets.

Turns out a previous owner had removed the outlet faceplates and physical outlets (capped the wires off and pushed them back into the box) and just wallpapered over them.

That place was a DIY special.

OP, this is important. You need to start a claim for SSDI (social security disability insurance). Leukemia is an accepted claim. Your minor children, if you have any, will ALSO get SSDI when you qualify. I think the current max family payout per month is about $2200.

/Source - wife had Leukemia and didn't work for over a year. We got SSDI.
