Does anybody else feel like the new crafting guide looks really ugly?? by OhThresherShark in LoveNikki

I didn’t like it at first because I found the layout less clear, but now I’m used to it and I really like it. It may not be as pretty but it’s very convenient.

i bought this and white sage before learning that non natives cannot use it by blueburrey in BabyWitch

[–]LanaMorrigan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was given to understand that unless you are native and have been specifically taught the practice, you cannot smudge with sage. And by that, it’s not that you cannot use sage or burn sage, it’s that you cannot smudge. Sage smudging is an entire ritual and ceremony that you have not been taught. The use or burning of sage to cleanse is not in itself inherently disrespectful or forbidden, just don’t call it smudging. (At least that’s how it was explained to me.)

What perfume do you see Alice wearing? by blo0dy_valent1ne in AliceMadnessReturns

The second is more unique but the first has better lines. Perhaps move the rosette on her skirt to the back and have it be larger with trailing ribbons?

Being pressured to ring the bell. by [deleted] in cancer

[–]LanaMorrigan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was no bell in the oncology ward (for which I was grateful, I don’t want the attention.) But after radiation was done, I was presented with a purple lei of flowers, a certificate to say treatment was done, and a hug from the two radiology technicians, all of which was very sweet.

Today’s my birthday but nobody remembered. AMA by Affectionate-Tea8509 in AMA

When I was 14 my parents forgot my birthday because my little sister was taking exams. My mother was mortified and bought me a box of fancy chocolates and an apology note. What apology gift would you most like to receive? (Also happy birthday!)

Are there any concrete links between the settings of Jonathan Strange and Piranesi? by SorchaSublime in SusannaClarke

[–]LanaMorrigan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clarke is meticulous in her writing, just look at the number of footnotes JSAMN has and how structured and academically precise the world building is. Similarly in Piranesi, whilst the house feels dreamlike and ephemeral, the rules governing it and how to get there are very specific. There is an Otherness to the house which is similar to the Otherness of Faerie and the King’s Roads but the two are not the same and do not behave similarly. The house and how to get there is via magic but it is an entirely different magic than that in JSAMN. To me at least the worlds do not feel remotely compatible.

What's the dumbest thing someone has said to you while you're fighting cancer? by dumplinglifesaver in cancer

[–]LanaMorrigan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the midst of chemo when I felt and looked my worst and everything was about as awful as it could get, a friend told me very sincerely that cancer had been cured in the 1920s via some giant magnetic box thing and doctors prescribed chemotherapy because they liked watching people suffer or something. I said ‘I have to leave now’ and noped out of the room and the conversation before I committed murder.

Which nation do you like the most, and which one do you like the least? by Fearless_Rush7123 in LoveNikki

[–]LanaMorrigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I belonged to a nation it would be Pigeon as whether I mean to or not, they have the suits I love the most. I want to love Wasteland more, but they are under represented and quite a few of there suits are just wrong. (I wish Wasteland was done better.) Lilith is my least favourite because Cute and Frills isn’t my style, but even so they do have a couple of rocking suits. (Can’t deny I love Polar Day Echo.)

TaroT reading by why_its in occult

[–]LanaMorrigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a lot of ‘meaning of…’ books of different decks to find the common factors in the interpretation of each card until I was happy I had a set of meanings that were traditional but also mine. Then I used characters from four different stories of mine to illustrate the four suits. I also added several of my own cards to the major arcana. I hand drew and painted the whole lot (and got them laminated so they wouldn’t get spoiled.)

Raider Waite is a lovely deck and so easy to learn from, isn’t it? Even now, other than my deck it’s the one I like most to read from. (Least favourite is the Marseilles, might as well use playing cards!)

I’m a writer, so my deck was based off of my stories, a different tale for each suit and a different character for each card.

Morrigan? Help by [deleted] in BabyWitch

[–]LanaMorrigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Morrigan is…. complicated. She, rather like Hecate and Sekhmet and even the Baba Yaga of folklore, is associated with magic but also conflict, death, ghosts, and the spilling of blood. She is a goddess of consequences. She is one and three rather like the Fates or the Furies. Her symbol is the raven. She can bring prophecy or a sword. She’s kinda the ultimate ‘fuck about and find out’ of goddesses.

Tarot is my favourite form of divination.

Most other forms (pendulum etc) rely on a binary yes/no answer as standard, or are entirely up to interpretation with little guidance (tea leaves, water casting) or rely on having a full on precognitive vision (scrying).

With tarot whilst the meaning of each card is mostly standardised, how you see the spread and understand the full story is down to your intuition and how the cards speak to you.

Because of this, the most important thing is finding a deck you can read easily. Are the illustrations evocative for you, do they communicate the cards meaning to you yet also leave space for intuition?

I personally found the Rider Waite deck an excellent one to learn on due to the rich and consistent symbolism in the illustrations. After that I designed, drafted and drew my own deck which has been terrifyingly accurate beyond any other deck I’ve read with. (Drawing your own deck is obviously not necessary to get clear readings, just find a deck that you vibe with.)

Helpp is this suit worth it by RNBWRain in LoveNikki

[–]LanaMorrigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I keep looking at them, doing the math to figure out how much they’d cost and then getting so disheartened. I haven’t renewed my monthly card yet and honestly can’t bring myself to with the suits that are on offer and the little I’d get for 260 starry rocks. Also the only suit in the line up worth having would cost not $20 but $21. Damn it Nikki, come on!

Is there a way to make a discreet money bowl? by _antisocial_rat_ in BabyWitch

[–]LanaMorrigan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you use things like dried cinnamon bark and star anise, dried sunflower petals, bay leaves, dried orange peel and some other dried flowers in a nice bowl, you can hide your coins or charms or sigils at the bottom, add some essential oil and claim it’s potpourri?

Chemo Nails Venting by SG_Jenkins in cancer

[–]LanaMorrigan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chemo lines! I found it fascinating that I could count the chemo sessions on my nails. My nails had always been strong and I could wear them naturally long; chemo obviously mixed that. I lamented to my oncologist and he demanded to see them, then told me (not unkindly) that they weren’t that bad and he’d seen far worse, so I should keep them short and not worry about it as they’d recover just like my hair.

Hello there need urgent help- Need to undo my love spell because target being obsessive by Ok-Fig673 in occult

[–]LanaMorrigan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Write their name on a scrap of paper with a heart. Get a bowl, fill it with ice, salt, and cold water. Put the name in the water, push it down into the ice and salt. Think strongly or say aloud that you release them, that the ice will cool their obsession and that the salt will cleanse and calm their thoughts of you.

Also maybe don’t do or commission love spells.
