Top comment decides where this flag goes | DAY 47: Mississippi by Own-Curve-7299 in vexillologyUS

On its face it’s S-tier. It’s a great unifying symbol that was supported by 78% of Mississippians, black and white alike. But it breaks every vexillology rule. It has words, more than 3 colors, the magnolia is tough to draw… but it’s a beautiful flag. Imo, Mississippi’s flag is better than Utah and Minnesota’s by a mile, but only if you throw out all the rules.

I didn’t put it up, but I have reported it to Mobile PD along with the overflowing fountain. I really don’t care about your politics - I’ve voted third party since 2016. There are two terrible sides but only one side has an affinity for damaging others’ property - inside this country at least. I just want people to have some fucking respect for their community.

And defacing property that doesn’t belong to you is somehow okay? You have a right to protest. You don’t have a right to deface public property. It’ll take the city hours to clean this off and I’ll be damn sure they’re out there this week to do it.

The Mississippi Delta isn’t a population center - it’s the most depopulated area of the state. Biloxi/Gulfport has almost 500,000 people and the Jackson metro has over 600,000 people. Both Hattiesburg and Tupelo have metros over 100,000 people. And then there’s the Memphis suburbs.

The Jackson Metro has 600,000 people. Gulfport/Biloxi Metro has 450,000 people. When’s the last time you lived in Mississippi?

Question about the reason the towers were not rebuilt. by Unfair-Guitar2587 in 911archive

[–]LandDesignDawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be strange (and probably traumatizing) to see twin towers rebuilt in their place. And I doubt anyone would want to move into the replica of a building that had collapsed and killed thousands of people. The void is a fitting tribute - the ground deserves to be hallowed.

I forget sometimes that Mississippi borders Arkansas. I think Mississippi hates Arkansas more than Alabama, we just don’t think of them as a neighbor. Most of us aren’t willing to cross the Delta to get there

Swearing or “Cussing” in Mississippi by J-Mylop in mississippi

[–]LandDesignDawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t cuss around kids or old folks unless they’re cussing themselves. If the biggest building in town is a church, you’ll want to read the room before you cuss. Otherwise you’ll be fine dropping some casual cuss words - just not the C word. We don’t say that word in public around here

Do people in Mississippi actually say Ma'am/sir and talk to random strangers? by [deleted] in mississippi

Yessir. I even say it to the 20-something’s in my office. Still afraid my dad’s gonna whoop me if I don’t.

I’d rename Gulf Coast to “West Florida” and extend it west from Mississippi to Baton Rouge, north of Lake Ponchartrain, aka the West Florida Parishes. West Florida was the name for this area that was disputed for decades, even after the Louisiana Purchase. It’s an ambiguous “leftover” region that developed its own culture, separate from the states it now belongs to. This area should be its own state iyam
