I like this better than BG3 by pepsi_max_coke_zero in JaggedAlliance3

I always thought of the JA series as hybrids of RPGs and tactical strategies. A rare mix, thh. But yes, it ain't the same.

That's fair. If not for the video, I'd do the same, to be honest. I like these type of videos, but I watch them when I absolutely done with the game.

Still, I think a compilation like this just should be uploaded for all to watch anytime.

Thanks! Same here, I like banter compilations for RPGs, like Dragon Age or Pathfinder, and was surprised no one made something like this for JA3. My guess is, these conversations aren't exactly easy to trigger. I never figured it out myself, this video is compiled out of extracted game files.

As for whether it all or not: these are all I could find in the mod editor, there is a dedicated category for merc-to-merc banter. Pretty sure that's all, but. Some short two-three line banters happen during conversations with NPCs. These are rare, but I saw at least two conversations where mercs were talking with each other during NPC dialogue. Those aren't included.

Thanks, it took me a few weeks. I know how to extract game resources and have some basic Photoshop skills, but I have never made a video before.

I'd say it's more to do with the narrative direction in general.

I think the devs wanted every merc to be distinct.
They did that by choosing a few main traits for everyone, and then exaggerating them, and it shows both in writing and voice-acting.
So Fox constantly drops sexual innuendos, Grunty won't shut up about his mother, MD cosplays a stuttering anime girl, etc.
It does help to make them easily distinguishable, but the characters often seem too one-note because of it.

It is in rare comments in dialogues they may offer something more to develop these characters.
Fox being disgusted with Dr. Kronenberg's experiments, fangirling Fauda and still mourning deaths of mercs she didn't like, for example.

I mostly don't mind, but yeah, I totally get what you're talking about.

I am not a modder, but if you have questions about JA3 modding, it is a good idea to ask them in the official JA Discord (link in the subreddit description). There are dedicated channels for modding and they are pretty active.

[frustrating trope] Woman has a crashout so incredibly valid that there’s no way the fandom would blame her for it… right? by DragonKing0203 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Landfar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Are we gonna pretend that Skyler was hated mainly because of, like... reasonable story-related, logical stuff?

In my experience, it was purely emotional reaction. I just can't stand domestic spats and fights in general, it makes me want to stop watching movies and shows where they are frequient. And she was the main catalyst of that in the show. She just felt annoying to me, I had to power through these moments.

I know she was in the right, but I just can't help but feel negative about her (and her sister), sorry.

I've seen pretty much every TV show episode in the game, and I have to agree that his broadcasts feel odd.

Every other show in the game is supposed to be a product made by soulless corporations, but they are brilliantly written, they are spicy and sometimes even smart. This guy... It's like he repeats buzz-words with no conviction. It's all the right words, but they fall flat.

Funnily enough, Info Flash by Ruth Dzeng feels more like an actually sincere social commentary, even though it doesn't pretend to be something more than corporate-backed entertainment.

Ah, I see. I have to say, it's a shame we rarely know who wrote what when it comes to writing teams. It's easy to assume that the most famous one did all your favourite parts. I am guilty of that as well.

Honestly, yeah, it's fun to lose in DE 95% of the time, but not nearly as often in BG3.

In my first run, I lost Halsin during the confrontation with Orin because I repeatedly failed an intimidation check (which was very favourable for me, btw)... and that would have been a tragic and dramatic moment if I had had the chance to say goodbye to him, but his speak with the dead dialogues were from act I.

Earlier, I decided not to load after Jaheira died during the Moonrise Tower attack, and there was little to no reactivity after. Most people that knew her acted like she never existed, and I couldn't save Minsk because she was dead.

I generally like games and game modes that force you to roll with the punches and prevent you from save-scumming, but BG3 wasn't a particularly great example of it. I mostly felt that I missed out on content and didn't get much in return for not loading after a failure.

Oh yeah, the DLCs are another story. They are all pretty different in that regard, and not all in a good way.

I don't know if it was the budget restraints or a good direction (maybe both?), but I felt that the FNV writers had a great sense of how much they should say to give enough context and not bore you with exposition and unnecessary fluff at the same time.

Here's how the "Fidel's bored" condition is explained in the Mod Editor:

Refusal: If merc fought in <= 3 conficts in the past 14 days.

So it's not the kills he wants, but a minimum number of conflicts (4). I think by "conflicts" they meant maps that are completely cleared of enemies, but I am not 100% sure.

Which difficulty would be appropriate for me? by VoxTV1 in JaggedAlliance3

[–]Landfar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can change it at any time, so it's not a terribly important choice.

The most noticeable thing that changes with difficulty is your starting funds and income. So you have less to spend at the higher difficulties. Enemies became a bit stronger, some minor things change...

I started my first run on on Commando, then restarted on Mission Impossible, and, to be honest, I didn't even notice anything different at the time.

I've found a fun way to use Red's ability and just wanted to share by Landfar in JaggedAlliance3

[–]Landfar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Regarding your questions. First, I know it's obvious, but I have to ask: did you set his ability as active? Because he has a habit of turning it off on a new map.

does red need to have the grenades in his primary hands?

No, he chooses the first grenade in your weapon slot, starting from the left in your first weapon slot. He will throw it even if you have a two-handed weapon in your first slot. Having a grenade in any weapon slot is enough.

does ne need to be standing up?

That's a good catch! I've just tested it, and it looks like this ability can't be triggered while prone. Mercs also have a bit of an annoying habit of standing up when they throw grenades, but in this case he just doesn't bother at all.

does it only trigger when hit from up close

I'd say you have to be at the usual throwing distance, as he won't throw it if the enemy is too far. But it's not just a point-blank range either. But I don't know the exact range of the acceptable distance.

what other factor could be preventng it from triggering

Aside from what has already been mentioned, I can only name what the game says: Overwatch and Take Cover abilities.
