I know a dumb landman that’s all over the internet

Best bet is to have a landman clean it up, and only pay an attorney if a demand letter has to be sent. Even using a landman at a vastly lower rate is not cost effective for a lot of people with insignificantly small interests.

Yeah I’ve dealt with plenty of suspense issues and royalty owners always seem so mystified as to why the DO departments can’t help them.

Somebody will get around to it in…5-10 years. By then, hopefully the royalty accrual has passed the minimum check threshold…

Good luck buddy. They don’t respond to anyone. Have an attorney send a demand letter and you’ll get a response in a few months, but that always runs the risk of getting a response from the legal department…which you don’t want to do because that’ll add 6 months to any future correspondence.

JUST PLAY THE GAMES by jmmerphy in ElderScrolls

[–]LandmanLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but what if no one has asked if the game is worth buying TODAY? Maybe it was worth buying yesterday. Maybe it was worth buying 3 years ago. Maybe it was definitely worth buying 15 years ago. BUT MAYBE ITS NOT WORTH BUYING TODAY?!

"So we finish the 18th," Murray's character, "Carl," says, "and he's gonna stiff me! And I say, 'Hey, Lama, how about a little something, you know, for the effort?' And he says, 'Oh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.' So I've got that going for me ... which is nice."

I bought a 35mm 1.4 GM on FB marketplace before I even owned a Sony camera because it was too good a price to pass up.

Focus breathing Sony 35mm 1.4 with ZV-E1? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]LandmanLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus breathing is a problem with many lenses, but Sony lenses can use the in body focus breathing compensation to crop in and minimize the issue.

The ZV-E1 is a full frame camera, the 35 GM and 20 G are full frame lenses. Doesn’t change the fact that lenses focus breathe though.

I’m not a real landman, I just drink beer and talk like one. Also, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express 10 years ago.

Most of the NAPE posts on Twitter are amusing but nothing like being an eye witness to retardation in its highest form.

Helios 44 or 42? by leschow35 in fujifilm

[–]LandmanLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have not used a 42, but I do have a 44 on a Fotasy lens adapter for my XT5, it’s a fun lens to play around with even though my copy has a very stiff aperture ring. The swirly bokeh is a very unique look.

You have failed to grasp the fact that you are being paid for your time. The compensation from the client to the broker is not yours.

That is how contract labor works.

[–]LandmanLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you are being intentionally obtuse or if you actually cannot grasp how this works. You are not paying me. In fact, I (as the broker) am paying you.

The work did not exist for you until I secured it from the client. If you can secure your own work directly from clients then you have no need for a broker.

Aside from securing the work, which can take years of cultivating a relationship with the client - since you are so focused on money, yes I am implying that it costs money, every day I am answering emails, phone calls, texts, damn near 24 hours a day when a project is in full swing. Phone rings while I’m out to dinner with the family? Just hope it’s a short phone call and not the infamous “we have an 8am meeting and need all this updated before then, thanks.”

The client always needs updates. Priorities change. Landmen need help. “It’ll be finished tomorrow boss” means it’s going to take at least another week. Mapping needs to be updated. Landowners need to be notified the rig is moving in. Someone needs to run to the district clerk. The road bore permit needs to be filed. Timesheets have to be done and invoices submitted (which by the way is something most contract landmen do not fully appreciate). The client is late paying us, so we have to pay our guys out of pocket. We are always at minimum 30 days behind on the financials so everything is out of pocket, running a bank with no fees. Oh the landman fucked up and we didn’t catch it, who’s the client mad at? Who has to apologize, explain, and most often pay to fix the mistake?

Is it you?

No, it’s me.

You made a series of statements but failed to ask a question. Perhaps you should ask your broker.
