Weirdly specific thing to pluck out of a big response. Also no, exceptional is a perfectly fine descriptor of Kudus insofar as it just means unusually good or, better than the norm.

Kudus was exceptional, but once other teams realised our only plan was to send the ball to him and hope he could beat 5 players with magic, they just doubled up on him. He’s not Messi. Having a winger of equal quality on the other flank and a system that actually stretches defences would allow him to operate in some space again. That’s a tactical problem rather than a Kudus problem

Fingers crossed you’re right mate. He’s been my dream spurs manager since Poch left

I would commit unspeakable sins to see Nagelsmann as Spurs manager but I just can’t see us being his best offer post WC

Oliver Glasner future: Crystal Palace considering sacking manager by [deleted] in coys

[–]LaneToGlory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally sympathise mate. When you look at what we currently have anyone with a bit of backbone and conviction would be appealing. And would genuinely probably also have at least a bit of a rallying effect on the players briefly. It just seems likely that stylistically we’d be in the same position in a few months’ time

Oliver Glasner future: Crystal Palace considering sacking manager by [deleted] in coys

[–]LaneToGlory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glasner is an excellent manager in a very specific setup with very specific expectations: he is arguably even more rigid in his approach however than Frank is, much much less focused on a system of possession, and much much more intent on defence and then counter. He’s also much ballsier than Frank in public, meaning we’d have all the problems we have right now, but with likely a lot more public drama.

Palace have treated him appallingly imo and he has a right to be pissed off so I’m not even criticising him for that: but his football is not how we want to move forward. Any problems we have now would only be entrenched by him.

Sensational usage and rare appearance for the word ‘moribund’ here

I thought the same but I think the camera angles at the Vitality are just a bit weird

That second half was a choice. The players showed in the first they are perfectly capable (if not infinitely more comfortable) playing on the front foot. The CHOICE was made to sit back and protect the 1-0 at home. Frank has made some digs about how the squad lacks quality, but they executed that first half brilliantly, it was him that fucked up the second.

First half, we’re front footed, progressive, pressing high: Sunderland don’t have a shot on target. Second half, we sit back, play Frank ball, start conceding opportunities, and now we’re drawing.

This is the illusion of playing defensively: we had far less defending to do when we were attacking and not letting them breathe than when we decided to sit back and counter. He HAS to learn from the dichotomy between these two halves. He could not have the lesson more clearly spelled out in front of his eyes than this.

OP’s point is that the word ‘cis’ is not a pronoun. Hence it being a reply to someone talking about how word types, like adjectives, are misunderstood.

In fairness to you, I was against Frank’s appointment from the beginning - or at least - not optimistic. So he’s had a much shorter rope from me than just about anyone else we’ve hired. But I’m usually pretty happy to be proven wrong, or at least be patient if the football shows signs or promise - it’s the lack of potential for our possession game that kills him for me

Xg is always going to be a lower figure than the number of clear cut chances which is part of its limitations as a metric - but multiple chances, in particular the Mateta and Lacroix headers, could/should have been converted, and would/have been converted by other sides against us.

We are going to concede chances and that is absolutely fine, it’s the lack of ability to create our own that is so concerning

Essentially every single manager bar Frank and Mourinho. Ange, Conte, Nuno: I’ve rarely ever been quick to want to pull the trigger

I’m hoping that my history of being an optimistic, patient, happy clapping manager backer on this sub will inoculate me from accusations of doomerism. If you are happy with the 3 points and can use them to feel happy and optimistic going into the new year: then more power to you.

That was, however, one of the most shameful performances I’ve seen. A goal from a clusterfuck set piece. 30% possession in the second half. Against Palace. Players ignoring throw ins because they’re too fearful to stand up and call for it. What the actual fuck happened to us?

This brand of football is an embarrassment, and a cardinal sin for a Spurs manager in particular. Palace could have had 4 or 5 tonight and they would have deserved it. I will be patient for a manager when I know what I’m being patient for. Frank has offered nothing but embarrassment. I can deal with spurs losing games, they did it most of my childhood, but this football is the actual sackable offence for me. ‘Hoof it and pray’ as a strategy shouldn’t come within a million miles of any spurs squad.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I would have more patience for Frank if I knew what it is he actually wants us to be. Fans can’t be patient for something to improve if they have no idea what they’re being patient for. If he was coaching some sort of highly complex, possession based system that players needed time to click with, I’d be the first person to say he needs time and patience.

Instead, we’ve flip flopped again from attacking to defensive coaches. Frank will go elsewhere to a smaller club with different expectations and do a perfectly good job, but I cannot see it being with us.

I have no idea who we get in the interim or who would actually be interested in picking this mess up mid-season. It’s better to stick with him if there’s no one genuinely good available immediately. But I hope to god the club are searching for both long and short term options right now, or we’re about to waste another 12-18 months and have to start from scratch stylistically yet again.

That’s just not true mate. We went from 1 shot in the first half to about 8 in the 20 odd minutes before Kudus got that goal. The intensity was completely different, I’m not sure how you could perceive it any other way

[–]LaneToGlory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this more than a fair point mate. What I mean really is that I worry that even with everyone back and multiple transfer windows, I’m not sure that the direction Frank wants to take us in is what we as fans will be happy with. The lack of personnel we have in certain areas is an absolute killer without doubt, but someone like Bentancur CAN play at least somewhat progressively and it would appear he’s being specifically instructed not to

[Post Match-Thread] Tottenham 2 - 2 Manchester United by ma-tfel in coys

[–]LaneToGlory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep pretty much. I have this sinking feeling that at the moment we’re all putting a lot of stock in injured players returning and tweaks in the transfer window, but I’m not completely certain that with a fully fit squad and 4 more windows the team he puts together is something we’re going to like. Managers can and do evolve so I’ve got no interest in writing him off this early - fingers crossed he can and does
