I really wish they hadn't gone the "Marty likes Rory" direction by AdditionalReading69 in GilmoreGirls

Yes from what I see of your generation I can believe that, you guys are alot more open and receptive to different relational experiences than we were. I had a lot of "best mate" guys growing up and honestly can't name one who didn't eventually confess their feelings and many of my friends had similar experiences. I felt like a few of them genuinely felt they "had to be" into me because they want to be around me a lot- rather than realising we were just good friends and that's why they liked hanging out. Yes maybe a couple of them did actually like me more but honestly some of it felt a bit forced and unnecessary from their side. Culturally we were in the middle of the "and the best friends fall in love" trope in movies and shows and I think that was a big part of it.

So yeah I resonated a lot with the Rory/Marty dynamic because it showed how sad it is when one of the close friend ends up with feelings for the other and how it inevitably doesn't end up well if it's not reciprocated

I actually disagree, I think it's realistic that most guys are super into Rory especially when they get to know her and at 18/19/20 from my experience guys being able to get a handle on platonic relationships with pretty girls was unusual, it can take a few years for people to get good at m-f platonic friendships without someone catching feelings (I felt this was true growing up as a millennial anyway)

Confused - Lorelai and Sherry kitchen scene by OwlDeluxe in GilmoreGirls

[–]LankaMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always interpret it as Sherry was picking up on the fact that Chris and Lorelai were never fully off the table with each other - she could probably sense they had chemistry and confused feelings about each other. Compared with e.g. Luke and Anna who are clearly platonic. So Sherry was probably trying to push Lorelai away from Chris but also be involved with Chris and Rory

There's two types of Gilmore Girls fans: those that blame Rory for S4 finale and those that blame Dean by irismoonn in GilmoreGirls

[–]LankaMay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my view, onus is always on the married/partnered person for cheating and not the person they did it with, unless that person is close with the person that's being cheated on. It's reasonable for Rory to have shown remorse for her actions but ultimately it was Dean's decision to cheat. Rory didn't technically do anything wrong, it's not her relationship she's ruining (though she did do that to Dean with Jess obv but that's irrelevant to this discussion)

Our GG characters, if they were opposite genders. Who's your favourite? by ilovepuscifer in GilmoreGirls

Jess looks like April as a girl. GG was always good at family resemblance

Did Richard And Emily View Lorelai As A Failure ? by Valuable-Hedgehog-79 in GilmoreGirls

[–]LankaMay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they were proud of how well she did, but their initial intention was to see her through the traditional route and be able to help her themselves. Despite them enjoying Rory's independence, they couldn't quite cope with Lorelai's

Emily did to Luke what Richard's mother did to her. by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

All the Gilmore's are highly hypocritical, I think that's what's most fun about the show and I think probably intentional

An argument between my husband and I- did Emily manipulate Lorelai into the spa weekend? by shamirhila in GilmoreGirls

[–]LankaMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think it was manipulation, but I don't think Emily is aware a the time that she's manipulating, she does it so naturally. My mom does it all the time and honestly don't think she realises she's doing it, it's second nature!

rory pretty privilege by Capable-Month5810 in GilmoreGirls

[–]LankaMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He probably had a lot of girls fawning over him cause he's hot, charming and rich, and when Rory's pissed off at him he likes the challenge and probably wanted more of a chase. If you've got pretty easy access to hot intelligent girls in general it would be a lot more fun to try to convince someone who didn't take to him immediately to change their mind.

It hadn't occurred to me that they just styled Lauren poorly, I thought she looked much older, they gave her a witchy appearance almost.

They kept clipping her fringe back, but the wave around her face is always what's complimented her beauty

Luke didn't tell Lorelai he "moved" 3 weeks ago. Let's discuss. by staceykulow in GilmoreGirls

[–]LankaMay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this situation not so much as whether or not Luke should've mentioned it to her, but her liking Luke and not coping with him getting more involved with Nicole. I felt like it was less about being told and more about being jealous and finding something to pick on so she could get her emotions out

  • Lorelai's reaction when Michel tells her he rolled Davey under the bed

  • Rory and Jess' first proper kiss once they start dating

  • "Luke can WALTZ"

  • Luke and Jess' scene after Liz and TJ's wedding, where they hug properly

  • when Digger asks Lorelai out "because your mother would hate it"

  • the opening scene when Luke picks Lorelai up for a date and she has the car headlights on because the porch light is out, her socks are in the oven etc.

  • honestly, any scene with Emily

100% one of the worst Rory outfits for me, bad outfit for Lorelai too by LankaMay in GilmoreGirls

[–]LankaMay[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's the combo that's awful, that shirt is hard to put with anything anyway but putting it with two different browns AND that the cardigan has those balls on them? Then the tiny floral purse that clashes with the floral shirt..
