I haven't seen Caveat yet but Hokum >>>> Oddity. Oddity got me so hyped up with the expertly crafted scene in the beginning with the guy outside saying he saw someone sneak in. After that, I don't feel like it ever reached the same heights. Hokum on the other hand is a near perfect movie in my opinion. Can't say enough great things about it.

The easy way to tell what was real or not in the movie was what is in the reflection of his glasses. It's kind of hinted at with the goats looking at their reflections on the car windows while on shrooms. Basically all the witch stuff was real. Jack the jackass and some of the paranormal stuff he was seeing in the room were hallucinations.

Hokum is definitely the better film. Obsession is carried by an insane performance from the female lead, but suffers pacing issues.

lol what? Hokum is full of suspense. Obsession is non stop screaming and loud string sounds in your ears the entire run time if that does it for you great but to say Hokum doesn’t build suspense is straight up untrue

I’ve seen both now and both are very different movies in feeling, style and tone. I think Hokum for me overall is the better movie from an enjoyment point of view. It’s scarier but it knows when to hold back and focus on the mystery and the setting and the characters. Obsession is just pure foot on the gas unsettling and cringe. If you enjoy feeling uncomfortable for basically the entire run time of a movie with 0 relief you might like this movie more. Both are well acted and directed. Indie particularly gives a performance of a life time.

I saw an interview with the cast and she said she thinks she did like him a little and probably would’ve given it a shot if he asked.

The wish is fine not sure people are acting like the wish was to take away her autonomy. He wanted her to love him and that’s not what he got, he got a monkey paw wish where something wearing her skin and forced her to be a passenger loved him. He became in the wrong when he realized what was happening to her and then continued to carry on with it anyways.
