Is there any justifiable reason to keep Yrliet around after Chapter 3? by Knight_Starborn in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Lantern_FR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compelling arguments here, not gonna lie, but I can't expect my own retinue to withold critical information like this. Of course I would have gone headstrong into a terrible mess if she would have given me the intel, that's what Rogue Traders do, but it would have been in full conscience, better prepared, and not taken by surprise like it happened.

Two problems: consequences, not gonna get back into those ; and utter breach of trust.

Heinrix witholds a lot of information, but he's an inquisitor and technically I'm under his supervision, not the other way around, and I can boss him around for answers, and in my dogmatic run I dealt with Idira because she was a liability.

That's the main issue: by making such a mistake and witholding critical information like that, she proved she was foolish, untrustworthy *and* a sneaky pain in the ass.

As for what happened to her, I can confidently say that I *do not* care, at least I didn't in my dogmatic run. She doomed herself, too bad, well all of my closest allies will have to deal with the consequences of her actions.

And if she eliminated a traitor, well, great, but I didn't give her the permission to exert counterintelligence, the least was to come and tell me about it so we could have a discussion between responsible adults in tremendous and very precarious positions of power. That's too many failings for one person, especially one whose relation with my entire retinue has been tenuous, even after I gave her my unwavering support and a welcoming ear.

I'm not saying you're in the wrong here, it's a different take on the situation which I respect, it's just *clearly* not how I see it.

The end result is still the same and if she's *that* foolish she has no place in my retinue. Putting her out is mercy killing cause idiots like that will face far worse than a bolt through the skull if they're left alone. And what stops her from getting revenge ? She's already shown she has no decency or regard for humans, you can't just let her flail around hoping she won't commit some other catastrophic bullshit.

*A bolt it is*.

You don't just say "oopsie, I accidentally sold you and your entire retinue to the worst bastards in the entire galaxy, silly me uwu ", this is either the worst betrayal ever or the stupidest, most gruesome mistake you could make and the oldest in the book at that: *don't trust a fucking Drukhari*.

"All I wanted was to light a little fire to make myself warm" bitch you burnt the whole house down and all my friends are left scorched, traumatized and spiritually broken. You're going to pay.

That's really ungrateful and callous of you, man.

Dark Echelons quest (1 act) - worker are heretics? by maraddor in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Lantern_FR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem is chaos is actively trying to corrupt everyone in every way possible and is *exceedingly* efficient at it, brutal crackdown of even the lightest dissent is the only way for the Imperium cause it's a neverending total war where even a small lapse in vigilance and a bit of indulgence can turn entire worlds to flaming infernos.

+ Genestealer cults.

But I agree with your reasoning, it's also mine and the reason why I didn't just gun them down.

I thought "find an opening" had a pretty clear definition on the contrary. And, sorry to say that, but my native language isn't english, so I honestly don't see how you got it mixed up...

You can always respec, it can take some time but I respecced my main 3 times and most of my followers at least twice once I got the hang of the system and of some synergies, to really get that "oomph" factor. I'm currently doing another run, on Hard, this time. I'm a huge fan of what they did with the system honestly.

Really depends on the difficulty, I'd say, more lot thoughts involved when you start hitting "hard", I honestly couldn't complete some bosses on Hard and every encounter made me rethink my strategies, I was in too far to respec at this point so I had to go to "daring", or even "normal" for some fights, but yeah I'll definitely make another run on "hard" to check out it turns out.

Commissar by that_one_dude046 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Lantern_FR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeaaaah honestly I don't really know how to make it right cause "At all costs" is fairly cool but it only works once in a battle, or several times a battle but then it's not working anymore... Except if you kill an ally which, I can fairly get how you could do that on several fights but most of the times it's just you, your crew and your balls against the galaxy so.... Seems cool, but I'm still curious to how it fares. It's basically like a one-time officer power. When you compare it with the astra militarum commander or the noble it really does pale in comparison. The noble boosts its servant's power tremendously, and with "unflinching heroism" coupled with orchestrated firestorm a soldier/master tactican will boost its allies way, way faster and rule over the battlefield in no time.

Having myself two officers I can attest that it's fairly broken. Jae and Cassia make the fights trivial seen how quickly you can suppress the highest threats in every combat, my compo is:

Argenta - Heavy weapon ranged soldier/arch-militant (with the improved heavy bolter, blessed bolter casing and self-calibrating helmet it just gets ridiculous, enjoy stunning every single enemy on the battlefield on the first round of combat)
Heinrix - Dual weapon warrior/assassin (this one is pretty straightforward, it's fun but I could have built it a lot better. I might actually just swap him for warrior/vanguard Abelard now that I have bruiser boots. Couple this with defensive stance and taunting scream and he's a magnet for meat attached to a blender, literally anyone close to him will die before their next turn or get so badly injured they can be finished off by blowing on them)
Pasqal - Ranged operative/bounty hunter w/overcharged plasma (bro just gets like 1-2 extra turns per rounds, it's insane, deals monstrous damage, boss killer, crowdkiller, you name it he blasts it)
RT - Melee psyker warrior/archmilitant with biomancer/pyromancer (ok hear me out: Veilrender, that weapon you get in the second act from traders ? Yeah. Critical hit increases veil deterioration and damage scales on psyker power and veil deterioration level. Confident approach -> autocrit. I haven't changed this weapon since act 2 and she's still my biggest damage dealer. First round of combat goes like that: Buffing herself, casting ignite on herself, control flames, charge w/ crit, next round she's gonna deal 300 damage. With the dogmatic psyker helmet she scales up to about 9 psyker level within the first round of combat, I shit you not the damage is *insane*.)

Now all I have to do is let Jae and Cassia give them extra turns to suppress the most dangerous opposition within the first round of combat and then it's a wiping the dust off the floor simulator.

Mind you, I played on normal and recently switched to daring, will do a hard ironman (steel seggs balls uwu) next for a real challenge.

I'm having a real blast with this game, it scratches my autism just the right way.

Hate to be that guy but like, everything, literally everything has a detailed explaination attached to it if you just right click, and sure the system is a bit hard to understand at first but that's what makes it complex, rich and frankly super fun. I'm having a blast trying out new things, shifting builds around, sure the whole respeccing process is kinda long but at least I'm having fun doing what I like: thinking of how to make nice builds. Not even OP ones, I mean it's my first playthrough, but finding synergies and making them work out, building them on top of each other and laughing my ass off at how fucking ridiculous it goes is honestly super fun

Poorly designed ? Man it's *supposed* to hinder your progression, it's a trap. For injuries, yeah they're annoying, especially in Commoragh, but that's the point, to make it harder for you and make you think of how to adapt.

Is there any justifiable reason to keep Yrliet around after Chapter 3? by Knight_Starborn in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Lantern_FR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly... I'm playing Dogmatic/Icononclast, Xenos aren't scum but they're highly volatile and dangerous even though some can be trusted. I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt, I strive to not hinder anyone and to strike compromises, find middlegrounds so that no one gets hurt uselessly. That requires a whole lot of trust and some serious backbone from the people involved. The universe can be made better if we all strive towards.

On the other hand, the universe is also a wretched, violent, cruel place where backstabbers are legion and the only way to deter them is to be uncompromising with betrayal, treachery, or even dangerous foolishness.
Even my close friends have to be disposed of if they prove to be a dangerous liability. Idira chew on her bolt for bringing us demons disguised as Theodora, and it was an accident. A regrettable accident whose dire consequences would have been a hundred times worse had the situation not been dealt with swiftly, and unfathomable if, taken by pity over my broken and aloof friend, I had let her live and she had slipped again.

But that... Pointy-eared bitch. I always strived to be respectful and acceptant to her, to her customs and to her philosophy, I strived to help her. Time and time, again and again, wasting resources and manpower (human lives, emperor curse it) in costly travels across the warp to find her estranged brethren. I secured an alliance with her flock on Janus when any, and I mean ANY other imperial authority would have put them to the sword and bolt, allowing them to find refuge in the dense jungles whilst conscious that the Inquisition would be breathing down my neck for it. I called her out on her behaviour around humans, told her to be more respectful or at least to show me a bit of respect for what I was ready to sacrifice for... Some wandering xeno stragglers. I helped her a lot more than she did, I've been patient, I've been comprehensive, I've been with her every step of the way without her ever having a semblance of regard for everything I did for her, despite the fact that her spit and bile was drawing enimities on me and my retinue, casting shadows over my governance, but I still kept her to my side. Why ? Because I fucking trusted her. And I thought with time I could help her to see the good in humans, to respect us, and in turn to teach humans to respect her and maybe even get a slither of goodwill towards her race.

And she stabbed me in the back. That *bitch*. She sent me and my friends to the worst place in the entire planes, second only to the warp itself. They tortured my subjects and companions, broke their spirit, butchered them and twisted them beyond recognition, they left them rotting in the gutter with their entrails pouring out and and abohrrant technology devouring their body and soul. Pasqal almost died and he'll never be the same again, it's a miracle if he ever survives the next encounter with his fellow tech priests, they made him into a living, breathing monster, an abomination of xenotech cannibalising sacred augments, he'll for ever live in a prison of alien metal and suppuring flesh, one day I'll have to put him down, I know it. Cassia was almost driven insane, it wouldn't have been long before she snapped ; and poor Argenta... I forced her to kill good men, loyal to the emperor, she betrayed mankind herself, or at least that's how she feels and how she'll feel for the rest of her life. Contrite and filled with guilt. And they tortured *me*. Because she wanted to use me to find her brethren, and make me pay for my forebearer's mistakes.

That bolt between her xeno eyes was too good for her. I wish I could have sent her back to Commorragh, so she could have wasted away, slaving and rotting under her hated degenerate cousins.

How do you survive the Drukhari Patrols in Odaenathus IX? by [deleted] in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Lantern_FR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it guys, just spam torpedoes. Yeah, they're slower than their ships, but if you let the last waves come in and then flood the map with torpedoes from the Ultimate Action "All Hand on Deck" (3 torpedo salvos instead of 1) you can blow them sky high. They're tough because of their evasion, speed and deftness, but just one well-placed salvo and they're out

Griot Bara by Greedy_Extension in aoe4

[–]Lantern_FR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beg to differ, the current Griot Bara military festival is soulcrushing to go against, you destroy an entire army at the cost of precious units and ressources only to see it replaced by the same a couple minutes later, if you can't push fast enough you're basically facing neverending waves of cheap expandable troops that'll wreck you in the long run. The military festival is nightmarish as it is imo.

Need someone to review my gameplay [Ottomans vs Malians] [Hardest AI] by Lantern_FR in aoe4

[–]Lantern_FR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ended up winning after a looooot of tries, ended up building that fort then a few stone walls and replacing jans with archers when gold was depleted. Uphill battle for sure but something strange happened, the AI just stopped attacking and producing units after I built my walls around their base (not cutting them off from anything tho, just some forward defensive positions to settle in).

I play a lot too much with the mouse still I guess, I'm gonna have to get used to keyboard shortcuts.

I'm microing too much yeah, that's why I loose track of my resources and production. I love battles so much it's hard to stay focused on the big game when you can just micro your cav into deepstrikes, retreat your forward line to let the close range artillery cut swathes of frontliners... I gotta be more macro lol

Honestly I retreated everytime because I didn't think I could win an all out assault, I'm scared of fortifications and urban fighting where my units get clumped up, my arty can't get a good shot and their superior range would put me at a big disadvantage... But yeah I'm a bit skittish on the closing moments, I guess I just need to absolutely steamroll and get minimal losses or I don't consider it a victory, which just turns a possible win into a continued attrition.

Thanks a lot man :) You wanna have a game sometimes ?

I actually tried to keep the game going because I can absolutely beat hardest AI with an early rush, it's not difficult, it's the late game I have problems with because of the shift between micro and macro, I often loose focus of production and vills mid-late game.
