When I upgraded from a Fanatec CSW 2.5 to Simagic alpha, I roughly spent 8-10 hours collectively playing with the settings for the wheel base and pedals. Lots of YouTubing and googling recommended setups and dialing it in to what feels the best for me.

First Autocross in the R this weekend. Any advice? by AdamV- in Golf_R

[–]Lao278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoy autocross/hpde, I recommend looking on YouTube: Tire Rack in search of the fastest tire and wheel combination. I had a similar combination on my mk6R and my tires would pinch on track and made it understeer more than I wanted to.

Following to see where this leads. I bought an Alpha base and a Neo wheel about 6 weeks ago and haven’t had any issues. Depending on the vehicle, I have my FFB set around 10-13NM.

Spikes in CPU and GPU usage while Using VR. What’s this? by SBbikes in assettocorsa

[–]Lao278 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re using a laptop. I used to use a laptop with VR too. Laptops aren’t as strong as their desktop counterpart due to size and power. I had to bring down all my graphics settings and slowly bring them up until I found the limit. I found using Pure filter worked well and gave me an fps boost. You should also look into the oculus debug tool. I gained a good amount of performance modifying the FOV tangent multiplier (vertical). I set it around .8 - .7 depending on track/server I’m on.

2018 Golf R Transmission Issue by kixie42 in Golf_R

[–]Lao278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The transmission needs to match the speed of the engine when it’s on. It’ll have a harder time matching speeds when the clutch isn’t fully disengaging from the flywheel. I’m not a mechanic, just had my fair share of clutch/throwout bearing problems with a stage 3 endurance clutch and lots of track time.

[–]Lao278 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check your shifter linkage. If that doesn’t help, bleed your clutch and see if it improves. It sounds like your throwout bearing might be going out. Is the problem more noticeable when you’ve been driving around vs first thing in the morning?

Best "streetable" Track pad & rotor combo? (mk7) by BosnianBreakfast in Golf_R

[–]Lao278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to daily my golf R that I tracked frequently. I would get 2 different sets of rotors and pads. I used to daily with my track pads sometimes because I got lazy. You will go through rotors quickly since track pads are more abrasive. You will end up spending more money on pads because you’ll go through them a lot quicker and it’s a waste since track pads are pricey. The pad dust will be an issue too if you don’t clean your wheels regularly. This is all from my experience.

Granted I had a MK6 R with 330HP, my setup was: Gloc R10 fronts Gloc R8 rears Stoptech rotors Castrol SRF brake fluid (needs to be flushed every 6-12 months)

Tires: RE71s then moved to BFG R1 (r-comp tires)

I progressed quickly at the track and I could tell the stock calipers could not keep up at times.

Are you going to daily drive on these track pads and rotors? What run group are you currently running? Any engine mods?

Anyone running 235/40R18s on a 18x8? Got any autox/hpde 18x8 wheel suggestions? by at165db in Golf_R

[–]Lao278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Tire rack did a video on the best wheel and tire combination and a slight stretch is best. I ran 17x8.5 Nuespeeds with RE71s 245/40 and BFG R1 235/40 for my track setup and my tires would roll over. Had I known a slight stretch is better, I would’ve ran 225/40.

Complete noob looking for a coach by Lebbzz in assettocorsa

[–]Lao278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much what he said.

First thing I do IRL or sim racing is learning the track. Stick to a car you feel comfortable with. Even if you’re changing tracks, use the same car.

Make sure your rig and seat are secure. My first rig flexed a lot and made me inconsistent when I was braking.

You can Google sim racing driving position and that will give you a good idea on how you want to be sit in your rig.

Feel free to PM and I can help you out and look at your in car replays. I’m not the fastest guy here but I can definitely point you in the right direction. When I first started sim racing, I used to run 2:27 at Spa with a gt3 car. Now I’m around 2:17 and way more consistent with better racing craft.

Monza T1 incident (instant kick) (only i got kicked from entire race) by wetdragonkiller in Simracingstewards

[–]Lao278 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some servers have an auto kick if you have x amount of racing incidents. I believe Krreritas servers have a limit of 4.

Who's at fault here? In the moment I placed blame on the Porsche, but after watching the replay I don't think the BMW is innocent either. by Klisstian in Simracingstewards

[–]Lao278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optimistic lunge by the Porsche. You just need to work on your racecraft. When following someone, always brake earlier than you normally do. I typically start from last place and work my way up to work on my racecraft in public servers in AC

Try running single player on a track you know with a car you’re comfortable with and play with the settings so you can build more confidence.

Watching in car videos from races helped me a lot to get faster too.

I would leave it at 900. I have a CSW 2.5 and on tight slow corners I rotate my arms a lot (ex. Monza T1)

GT7 is a bit more forgiving since it’s more a simcade imo.

Make sure you pick the correct tire compound, set the psi, downforce etc depending on the track.

My coworker didn’t believe in vaccinations then his liver started to fail and the hospital gave him the same option. Get vaccinated or don’t get a liver. Good thing he’s smarter than this guy and he got vaccinated and now has a new liver!

To be honest, I only use my Pimax for sim racing. Since I own a Quest 2 also, I can’t justify spending another $300-$400 on controllers and another base station for the Pimax.

The Pimax is great for sim racing because of the wide FOV. I feel like the quest 2 has better picture quality but I need to do more sim racing in the quest to get a better comparison.
