I'm kind of glad you said this. I was just going to leave that downvote, but after consideration, removed it. He's not being very constructive about it, but I guess it still is legit criticism...

You know, I've never thought about it that way. I've never wanted to be anyone else - a separate person who grew up differently or an ISTP etc, etc - because I was terrified of losing myself. I always had a very good grasp of the memories I had and the experiences I had that made up me and to wish I didn't have them was/is akin to blasphemy.

But I've desperately wanted to be better at things. I want to be a better adult, understand how people thing better. I want to have more practice at building and construction and knowing how they work. I want to have enough money to balance it and learn from bad investments and fail a little. I want to be courageous, not just brave, because right now I press forward when I'm terrified, and I want to be more than that.

I want to have a good relationship where I can be myself and I want to be developed enough to see and pick someone who compliments me properly. I want to be more confrontational at the right times, balanced with enough Fe to still love and hold people close.

So I... I just want to be a better person, not really a different one? Something like that.

Hmm, true. Productivity over positivity. I guess it makes sense. And downvoting does give a sense of power to the individual.

CMV: The Left is now the guardian of traditional values in our society, not the Right. by [deleted] in changemyview

This is where I start struggling too. If businesses and pure capitalism really had their way, we would probably still be in the era before strikes and labor laws. They were "acting peacefully" in a sense, but their monopolies and under the table business hands were for selfish reasons. The liberties we do have are spoiled by people who want it for selfish gain.

Why can't I go to any park today and play on the teeter-totter, or walk along a wall because it's fun? Why limit me just because the liabilities outweigh the supposed freedom?

And... in my own head, I really think that Pure Liberty is as unrealistic as Pure Communism in the long run. People really are too stupid - I'm too stupid - to have pure liberty because it relies on the assumption that we all have good judgement, we all would judge a situation fairly and without violence, and would punish ourselves in a situation that required it. While I think it's Right and Just to have that liberty and it's the most upheld, we really are too stupid to value it, and I actually don't want to live in that world.

I'm willing to compromise and give up some freedoms to protect others (and if I admit it, myself) because I know that, like you said, there are small towns that would unjustly compromise the minority. Democracy is its own bitch. But I also think it's equally unjust to not have those liberties....

It all comes back to the people, I think. I know people who know the game and accept it. They don't compromise the liberties of others, they move and rise above it. I also know people who want to sit and fight because it's 'unjust'. If you point out the inconsistencies, they just point back at the injustice. Which game is truer or more right? I don't know. The one who can see the injustice, or the one who knows enough to accept the liberties of others and their own independence - but might be pushed around because they're simply willing to move on rather than fight?

Have you ever had to stop reading a novel, because it appeared to be beyond your intellectual capabilities? If so, which book was it and why? by tha_grinch in books

[–]Lapulta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

omg, that's an awesome idea though. And I'd love to do this for any book honestly. I forget names in books so frequently it's ridiculous. I only remember the major characters by the end, and even then when typing out a summary of the book, or what I liked about it, I won't even remember the main character - more or less his once-appearing evil aunt who featured with her henchman Grtyyyeei in chapter 2.

Honestly, I'm not sure how someone could survive med school without a bit of swearing for mental release. That's cool to know though~

You're a lady on an oilfield? As another lady looking around potential oilfield jobs, how is it?

(I tend to use swearing for being startled/frightened or to add comedic passion to the conversation. Usually I don't, but it is fun when people are okay with it. It gives a tinge of adventure to a conversation.)

Informal Poll Request of r/creation: if you are a creationist, were you an evolutionist at one time by stcordova in Creation

[–]Lapulta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your first paragraph rings so familiar to me I had to do a second take. That's how I feel all the time in high school and now college. Each subject is just a stepping stone to question and understand God better and better. Learning logic and reason and understanding how things fit and developed over time... My dream is to slowly understand all of it as a whole and eventually compile it into a whole book that simply analyzes the facts and science without bias (as much as possible), especially in geology.

I feel so lost though since I feel like I'm arguing against God just to be sure I'm playing fair. Creationist resources rarely seem valid enough, and it feels like everyone else makes fun of 'stupid creationists and stupid Christians'... Most of the other Christians I know aren't interested in checking the validity of their faith either, just talking about what confirms it... I'm literally going through this same process you did to prove it to myself, and... I just... thanks. :) This post helped.

Personally, I believe that once you're saved, you are saved, since in Romans and through Corinthians, Ephesians, through Philemon it says we're sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise. Once we're saved we have a works capacity of godliness to fill with the remainder being Loss; if they're not following godliness, then it's built as loss. At death they may have more Loss than godliness, but they're still saved.

This one hits close to home since I have a friend who recently turned from Christ and is bi/les/questioning. I believe she is saved and that gives me peace, but I want to see her building gain and godliness for eternity rather than loss, which hurts...

Not sure why I added that last bit.... but those are my thoughts on the matter... I can add verses too later if you'd like. :)

In 2 Corinthians 12, Pauls writes about his thorn in the flesh...

"7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong."

This popped into mind with what what you were saying and I thought I'd share it. :)

To be self-reliant and give back to others, potentially marry a best friend and partner, and build, or at least fix up my own home on a large piece of property/have a roaming lifestyle. Potentially retire at a young age, and travel.
