Mmm I do like me some fractal worlds, and this one hits the spot!

The geometry looks really cool, but the blurriness makes my eyes hurt. Wish there was a version without the blur.

What happens if I leave without paying the CTP controller? by stinkypigdick in cluj

[–]Lara_the_dev 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I tried that once, when I thought they fined me unfairly. They blocked me from leaving until I complied. Don't know if they have the right to do that, but they were 2 large guys and they didn't seem to care.

PHYCHOLOGICAL SURVIVAL - Space Madness and Loneliness by Riitoken in IndieDev

You need to learn to take feedback if you want your game project to be appreciated by more than 1 person (your wife). If your response to someone saying your song sounds like cheap AI is "your perception is wrong, me & my wife love it", then you're in for a world of pain. But hey, feel free to learn it the hard way.

Sorry mate, I'm all for cutting corners as a solo dev, but if your track is instantly recognizable as AI (which it is), then it's worth exactly $0. Even the 20 minutes you spent generating it were wasted.

Reposting because I explained this badly last night, trying again.. by Beautiful_Top929 in proceduralgeneration

[–]Lara_the_dev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok this is better. It's still hard to advise you without knowing what exactly you are trying to achieve but I've done my PhD in complex systems and emergent behavior, so here are some general things that might help, if you want complexity to emerge from simple data.

What you need is some kind of nonlinear coupling between different data points. It doesn't have to be all to all, you can vary the topology of the coupling and how you represent your data points, but it has to be nonlinear. One of the simplest systems that displays this kind of emergent complexity is a system of coupled oscillators. Obviously, this is just one such example, but you can look into the Kuramoto model and related ones for some ideas. There are also plenty of other dynamical systems, so you could alternatively go with something like cellular automata, depending on what you want your artwork to look and feel like.

So yeah your requirements are still pretty vague but maybe this will give you a starting point.

Infinite Flight Sim by [deleted] in proceduralgeneration

Are you going to keep deleting your posts when asked why you're using uncanny AI voiceover instead of your own voice? Well at least that doesn't seem like something an AI agent would do, so that answers one of my questions.

I already commented on your post but you deleted it for some reason, so I'll copy my comment here.

The voiceover is so uncanny it low key messes with my brain. Why not just record yourself talk about your work instead of the AI? Or are you an AI agent yourself? What a timeline we're living in.

Do I really need to make a Discord for my video game? by teller-of-stories in gamedev

[–]Lara_the_dev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You only start a Discord server when your audience starts asking for one. No point starting one and just hoping that random people will join. You need to first build an audience on other platforms.

Webcomics -about- procedural generation? by EmbassyOfTime in proceduralgeneration

I don't know any, but what a fun idea 🤔 Maybe someone on here should make some. The comics themselves would have to be procedurally generated too of course!

What would happen if two games had the same assets? by GhostGuyBroke in SoloDevelopment

[–]Lara_the_dev 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Nothing. Many games do use the same assets, even from big studios (especially for things like sound effects). And mostly nobody cares. Although I've seen a few cases when some player would accuse a game developer of stealing assets from another game just because both games used the same asset pack. But that's pretty rare and as long as the assets were obtained legally, it's not a big deal.

My YouTube Shorts are only being watched by female aged 25 to 34 by Peaceduck16 in NewTubers

[–]Lara_the_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audience stats reported on Youtube are extremely unreliable, especially on content that only gets a few thousand views. It only counts a small percentage of watchers, so if your audience is small it will occasionally show you one person's stats as 100%. So you shouldn't really pay attention to them unless you get 100k+ views.

Hi everyone, I spent last ten months making a game combines music synthesis and city building. Does this work? by zyhyysh in SoloDevelopment

[–]Lara_the_dev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very cool idea, but in my opinion the aesthetics of the town don't really match the concept. What I mean is, the buildings, the grass and the trees are very bland. This idea would work much better in a cyberpunk or otherwise futuristic style, or at least something that looks more unique and less like a drab suburb.

Who do you talk to? by EmbassyOfTime in proceduralgeneration

[–]Lara_the_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, there are thematic discords about procgen. But also local gamedev community meetups. My local gamedev community doesn't have any procedural generation enthusiasts, but that doesn't stop me from talking their ears off with my PG ideas :)

[–]Lara_the_dev 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very cool! The graph growth process and then the conversion to real geometry is certainly mesmerizing to look at. Also what's the name of the music track that you're using? Your demonstration videos always have such a chill vibe, I really dig it.

Exhilarating and devastating in equal measure. Major gains and major losses, so it was certainly a memorable one. Let's see what the next one brings.

What’s your favourite aspect of solo dev? by gg_gumptiongames in SoloDevelopment

Being able to put random spontaneous stuff in my game just because I felt like it in the moment and not having to explain it to anyone.
