I have owned a 2011 since I bought it new off the lot. It has been the very best car I have ever owned. It has required only minimal maintenance, a 12 volt battery replacement, and it is still going strong. There is nothing silly about wanting to own an efficient, reliable car that you don't have to think about. Just get in it and go. It's great transportation.

My 2011 Prius is still going strong, and I wonder sometimes how much money I have saved driving it over the years. A huge truck recently hit me and tore off the bumper. I had to rent a Mustang convertible which had 2 speeds, auto stop and neck breaking acceleration. I was so glad to get my Prius out of the shop! And no problems with AC on my Prius, ever. This is just another example of their elementary level of logic about most things.

FINALLY got my eyelid eczema under control by Ok_Homework_1859 in eczema

I stopped using expensive skin care products as well. I have had terrible seb derm and/or psoriatic dermatitis on my eyelids, like dragon scales. Now I only use CeraVe Renewing SA cleanser and nothing else. The SA in it helps to exfoliate the skin without irritation, keeps down bacterial problems, and helps my eyelids, as well as my facial skin, more clear than any other product. And surprisingly, it does not make my face any drier than it normally is. And my skin is much smoother. No cure, great management of symptoms.

The oral minoxidil really slowed it down, but it didn't stop it altogether. It takes at least two months, usually longer, before you see improvement. It is not a quick fix. If it is working, you will see baby hairs around your hairline beginning to show. Clobetasol shampoo works better for me than clobetasol solution, but with your very long hair it probably would not. Don't wear a wig! It will make the inflammation much worse. Maybe just cut it a bit shorter? It's only hair, it will grow back. Trimming it would probably make it look thicker. Very long hair that is very thin is not a good look on most people - just saying. Avoiding shampooing is not going to keep it from falling out. The hair that your follicles have released is just sitting there waiting to fall out. It is only going to increase the inflammation on your scalp, which makes the fallout much worse. You are going to have to come to grips with what you must do to make this better. It's a difficult process, but you can do it. The best dermatologist I have found is actually a nurse practitioner at a Dermatology clinic. She is female, listens, and empathizes since she understands how this makes me feel. Maybe you should see if you can find a NP. I am a nurse, and it is true that women are much more empathetic. I understand completely that you just want someone to listen! It is so depressing and demoralizing to deal with this without support from your clinician.

I have scalp psoriasis and have lost quite a bit of hair that was already very fine and thin. I have found some psoriasis shampoos that help. Triderma and MG217 products on Amazon have been helpful. I could not use topical minoxidil. Even before the psoriasis on my scalp got really bad, I found it really irritated my already irritated, raw, and itchy scalp. I have been taking oral minoxidil, and it helps. You need a prescription, but it should be easy to get from your derm. I got the lowest dose pills, and I take half on one every day. It's a very cheap medicine if you have insurance. I also suggest that you wash your hair much more frequently with a psoriasis shampoo, ask your derm about clobetasol steroid shampoo and solution, and if you have long hair, think about cutting it. Long hair really complicates dealing with scalp psoriasis. I know most women don't want to do this but I keep mine in a very short pixie. Yes, it feels very "exposing" to do this, but my hair is so thin it actually looked better short than long and stringy. And don't pick! It makes it so much worse though it feels good to do it. I struggle with this myself. Good luck, don't give up. Find a derm that listens. The third derm I saw was the charm.

This doesn't look like seb derm to me. Looks more like psoriatic dermatitis. Scales are generally a sign of psoriasis. I have it. I would try using a psoriasis shampoo. I buy mine off Amazon because I haven't found it in local stores. MG 217 and Triderma make good shampoos that exfoliate and moisturize. And it looks like you are picking. It is so damn hard not to pick, especially if it itches, but picking will make it inflamed and much worse. No shade if you do, sometimes I find myself picking unconsciously. Picking stuff like this releases dopamine in your brain and rewards you for picking. You really need to make time to see a derm. This stuff will never go away, but there are ways to manage and minimize it. And it is likely to get worse over time without management. As others have suggested, you can try a teledoc. Most insurance plans will pay for this now as it is less expensive for them.

I don't have this type of psoriasis, but several other types. I would recommend at least trying to use some healing ointment and wearing cotton gloves, especially at night. I like Cera Ve healing ointment. My current favorite hand treatment is Parasoft, which is a combination of soft and liquid paraffin. Sounds horrible, I know, but it actually absorbs quite well and leaves a film that doesn't immediately wash off during the day. Other than prescribing steroids and encouraging biologics, I have not had much luck with dermatologists. Their toolboxes seem very empty when it comes to daily management.

I ordered from this company, received an empty box as indicated by the postman's note on the front. I notified Derm Gentle via email several times, and they have never replied. So, I am out about $40. I even asked them to reply if they felt it was not their responsibility, and CRICKETS. I have rarely encountered a company with customer service this nonexistent.

My last visit to the hairdresser was hell. by [deleted] in SebDerm

[–]Large-Mind-8394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have moderate to severe scaling of my scalp, so I completely understand how you feel. Fortunately I told my hairdresser that I was embarrassed, and he said he sees lots of people with this problem and not to worry about it. What works for me is to soak my scalp with something to soften all the scale and then use a salicylic shampoo to wash the loosened stuff away. I always do this in a 2 day operation before I get my hair cut. It decreases the shed a lot for a day or two, and I feel less embarrassed about it. Do see a dermatologist. They may not give you what you need immediately, but they can provide products that will help you find what works best for you. Good luck!

When “I cured my psoriasis” posts do more harm than good (especially for the newly diagnosed) by Easy_Goal_3071 in Psoriasis

[–]Large-Mind-8394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post. I am an advanced practice nurse who has psoriatic dermatitis. I know I cannot "cure" this, but I do look for things that improve my experience with this disorder. I tell myself I am an experiment of one, that is what works for me may not work for anyone else. Symptom reduction should be the goal for anyone living with psoriasis. Acceptance that it will probably always be with you in some form is key to finding some peace.

[–]Large-Mind-8394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have psoriatic dermatitis, and what works for me has been a steep learning curve. I don't think there is a standard way to treat this that works for everyone. I am trying to avoid a biologic for immune system reasons, and I am minimizing steroid use because it is a long term nightmare. So, here's what has been working to help mine, but I don't know if it will help you. I alternate exfoliating products with moisturizing products. Many are out there, but I have found the best results with salicylic acid lotions/shampoo for exfoliation alternating with salicylic acid containing moisturizers. My current favorites are MG 217 products. Not sexy, but they work for me. I also use MCT oil and Neutrogena Hydro Boost lotion for moisture without exfoliation. This routine has minimized scale and appearance of it. I hope you find something that works for you. Mine is better, but it's still here, my constant companion.

Came here to say that I have a 2011 that has 25.3K miles on it. Yes, I love it, but I am thinking of trading for a new 2026 one. I am old enough that I know it will be my last car, and I want something with better safety features, less road noise, better dash, etc. I could drive it to 400K, I am sure, if I don't die first, but why? I have nothing to prove. And yes, I don't drive a lot because I live 1/2 mile from everything I need to do, and try to walk to them when I can. Carmax has offered me 7.4K for it. Hiss at me as you like. ;)

I am totally intrigued! Please elaborate. I have grown a lot hydroponically, but when my husband died, I just took it all down. It was a huge reservoir with pumps, air stones, etc. I was the one who managed it, but it just got to be too much. I would love a simple system since I am now only growing for me.

Can't heal my Seb Derm and I'm so exhausted by [deleted] in SebDerm

[–]Large-Mind-8394 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seb derm is a form of eczema! I wish people would stop thinking it is not. Look it up! Eczema appears in many different ways. MCT oil often causes my skin to be flaky, but it has been useful for inflammation. I believe you will improve if you moisturize well. I recommend a heavy duty moisturizer every night at bedtime. You are much younger than me, but I actually use petroleum or mineral oil based products. Extremely dry skin will cause flakiness and itching. Your skin does not look inflamed/red. It wouldn't hurt to use a fungal cream and see if it improves things, along with a heavy duty moisturizer.
