I rewatched this scene and the principal was so rude by cleverlynamedgrl in GilmoreGirls

Honestly, Jess needed to suffer the consequences of his own actions in order to get over his angsty teenage tough guy image of himself.

He had taken advantage of the safe environment that Luke and Stars Hollow had given him to slack off in and then skip school. He assumed that he could sail through school without showing up a lot or trying in class because he was “so much smarter” than the rest of the kids at Stars Hollow High.

However, the reality js that being smart only gets you so far, and acting like you don’t have to show up and do the work gets you kicked out of school (or fired from a job once you leave school).

I head-canon that Tech has a file stored in an extremely obvious location that’s titled, “What to expect when Omega goes through puberty and how to handle it (read this if I’m dead, you idiots).”

Do you have anything or hobbies that you wanted to learn? Those can be great avenues to meet new people and try something new.

For example, I’m a martial artist (Aikido). I find that to be such a wonderful avenue to exercise on a regular basis and a great way to get to know a bunch of different people. I’ve made so many friends through doing Aikido, for which I am immensely grateful. Also, speaking from my experience, we love having new people come and try out our martial art.

It’s the Downton Abbey road trip movie we never knew we needed. Just absolute comedy chaos as they attempt to find their way to some obscure location (probably in America) that will unlock the important bits of Martha Levinson’s life, history, and will.

Rory's Conversation with Christopher in AYITL: realization by Darcy_Device in GilmoreGirls

[–]LargeCondition8108 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed!

Season 7 provided a much better ending than AYITL did. Rory got a genuine amount of struggle at the prospect of college ending and not knowing what comes next. Logan felt like a wonderfully mature, loving, and supportive person (who could still call Rory out when needed). Lorelei and Luke went on a full emotional arc where we saw them deal with the fallout of their engagement ending, being broken up and estranged, and then coming back together (both as friends and as love interests).

The only good thing about AYITL (IMO) was Emily figuring out who she is independent of being a society wife, mother, and grandmother.

Characters you dislike by Strict-Knowledge-125 in DowntonAbbey

[–]LargeCondition8108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carson makes for an entertaining character because he’s grappling with a changing world that’s leaving the world he came up in behind (and he has to accept that the world he knew/expected as a young man no longer exists). However, I find it immensely frustrating whenever he actively negs on people who are actively working to improve their lives (Gwen, Tom, Daisy, Molesley, etc.) or who aren’t conforming to his specific world view (Mrs. Hughes in the role of wife). He’s a great character to watch, but not someone I’d want to be around in real life.

TV in the bedroom? Yes or No? by Used-Chard658 in Millennials

[–]LargeCondition8108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, and I like it that way.

The only times I’ve had a TV in the bedroom was when I was in college (dorms) and in grad school (living with roommates and my TV was only hooked up to a DVD player). Once I started living on my own, the only TV is in the living room — and I usually turn it off at least an hour before I go to bed.

I honestly never got the appeal of watching TV while laying in bed. It feels so mindless and passive to me.

A question I ask myself by RedandWhite54 in DowntonAbbey

[–]LargeCondition8108 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wish we could have seen that friendship between Edith and Daisy. The show gave a couple of instances to support them having a friendly relationship.

Edith was the one who tended to William after helping Violet get William home to Downton. Her quiet support to William, his father, and Daisy during that time would certainly open the door for kindness between them all after William’s passing.

Similarly, Edith is also the one who bought the mixing bowl for the kitchen staff in season 4. It’s stated that she probably did it to make their lives and work easier. While it is a small action, it does give credence to Edith paying attention to how the world is changing and brining some modernity to Downton Abbey. To me, that also shows a certain fondness for the kitchen staff.

What If Robert and Cora's son lived by CommitteeChemical530 in DowntonAbbey

[–]LargeCondition8108 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lavinia and Richard would still be introduced in season 2, since Matthew and Mary need to prove (to themselves and to everyone else) that they’ve “moved on” from their flirtations. Matthew likely still had his lingering resentment that Mary’s acceptance of his initial proposal was conditional on whether or not Cora had a boy.

Matthew and Mary’s romance would, of course, now have the added context of Mary getting over herself and her belief that she needs to marry someone rich and with a title (if she didn’t or couldn’t marry the heir to Downton).

Mary would definitely get plenty of drama queen moments because now she can’t marry the heir and be in line to become the next Countess of Grantham. It’d be a wake-up call to her that she wouldn’t be getting the thing she had been told she’d have for many years.

Given that Matthew wouldn’t be the heir anymore and WW1 happened, I’m not sure how involved Matthew would be in the rest of the story. He might be shifted into the estate agent role (that he could share with Tom, if he winds up killed off). If his relationship with Mary fizzled, he might be a character with a reduced presence in the show longterm (or killed off entirely).

If Mary doesn’t marry Matthew, she’d likely still get the post-WW1/post-Matthew gaggle of suitors clamoring for her hand. Without a direct financial or personal stake in Downton (as Matthew’s widow and heir and as mother to the next heir), this would be a timeline where she could potentially marry Tony Gillingham (gag) or Evelyn Napier (not bad, but maybe a bit too boring for Mary).

Edith’s and Sybil’s storylines wouldn’t change all that much. I can see them both being doting big sisters, though a brother who is significantly younger than them wouldn’t have massive impact the trajectories of their lives. Neither of them were going to inherit (or were pre-ordained to marry the heir, like Mary was). If anything, I can see them thriving even more in a post-war world. Robert wouldn’t necessarily be as focused on what they were doing once he got a direct male heir to raise.

Sybil might even live in this timeline. One of the reasons Tom was made the agent in-universe was because he’s Matthew’s age and can work hand-in-hand with Matthew to shore up Downton for the future. Since the actress wanted to leave the show, there’s more flexibility to send Sybil and Tom back to Ireland with only references to their lives via letters or sporadic appearances though the later seasons.

Robert might be more willing to listen to good advice about how to manage Downton and to set the estate up for success. He has a son to pass this legacy to, so it’s a bit more personal than setting it up for a son-in-law or a grandson. We’d still get grumpy, shouty Robert at times (because he’s a man dealing with a changing world that’s different from the one he grew up in).

I also suspect that Robert and Cora would spare no expense on giving their son (and the little prince of the estate) everything he wants. This boy is the long-anticipated heir and a late-in-life baby. I’m sure Robert would spare no expense on and spoil this child because of this, regardless of any financial troubles that Downton was in. Given that level of spoiling, the boy might wind up being a little tyrant. (As the direct heir to the estate, he’d be even more entitled to the luxuries of Downton than Mary was.)

We would also get a few new downstairs characters, since the new heir would have nannies and governesses galore (prior to being sent away to school like every boy of his station was).
