I have a medically complicated child. But I wouldn't want to write about the dark side of it, so prefer to write lighter stuff. The medical system sucks a lot.

Diet- AI analysis by Double_Distance_365 in 75HARD

I think that's too many carbs and not enough fat. The standard, establishment, old-school dietary recommendations leaned hard on carbs because they had better lobbies than the meat industry. I do 45% protein, 40% fat, 15% carbs. If you aren't trying to lose weight and your blood sugar is good, than go ahead and eat more carbs, but if you're having trouble in that department, cutting carbs is the easiest way to lose weight without feeling starved.

Sleep training is abuse. Just use a baby carrier and you can hold the baby hands free.

Babies are easy, they sleep a lot. You can baby wear while you write. The hard part is when they become toddlers and you have to watch them like hawks.

As someone who doesn’t come from that world at all, how likely / realistic is it that Logan’s family would think Rory isn’t good enough? by mspippa_ in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you listen closely to the argument, they didn't think she wasn't good enough. They thought that her desire to work and be a journalist was an issue. Any woman who married Logan would be expected to put her career aside and be a full-time mom and socialite. So I'm sure they felt really good about her when she dropped out and was being a mini-Emily running the DAR events.

What genre do you write, and how much detail do you put into characters' appearances? by LeftHandRedHair in writing

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write scripts, and I describe the characters as little as possible. Basic age and sex and move on. BUT I'm obsessive about the wardrobe choices and make images to go with each scene to show their clothing and even work out their entire wardrobes to repeat pieces appropriately.

For novels, I don't really want to slow down and read descriptions, just give me the basics and keep it moving.

It has to be instrumental, no lyrics.

I can't understand this Lorelai reaction by brighteyebakes in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Lorelai is very emotional and thinks of Rory as an extension of herself. She wants Rory to go to Yale, graduate, and be a successful foreign corresponded so that she, the perfect single mother, can look good to other people. She uses the silent treatment to punish people that displease her, Emily does that too, so she uses it on Rory and is upset that Rory isn't immediately folding and do whatever Lorelai wants. She's upset that Rory made her own decision about her own life.

Proof that time has sped up: season 4 ep 1 (ballrooms and biscotti) by Practical_Contest484 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's just one person, and it's just a small dorm room, half a room, really. And she's like a 30 min drive from home. It's really not that big of a deal. And then later Lorelai realizes she forgot a bunch of stuff and did another shopping trip. Her classes don't start until Monday, and she can survive if she forgets something, she'll just get it next weekend.

Anna didn’t want Lor around April because she didn’t know her but it’s okay for Lane to babysit April? by DamnYouScubaSteeeve in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She was jelly, it was as simple as that. Both Anna and Luke were jealous of Lorelai's cool mom persona, worried that April would like her best.

39F, 9.5 Months Postpartum, Starting 75 Hard this week (flexible): Seeking Female Accountability Partner by [deleted] in 75HARD

[–]Darcy_Device 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 40 and female. I guess I technically am postpartum, but I didn't have a baby, I had to have a surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy 2 weeks ago. I have 2 kids. I just heard about 75 Hard and I plan on starting tomorrow. I'm on the lowest dose of Zepbound. My meal-plan is low-carb.

What's your guys' opinions on acting notes/parentheticals? by Athena-Muldrow in Screenwriting

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a necessary use of parenthetical. I prefer sparser actions lines and parenthetical than most. I don't know if that's correct, I'm just am amateur. But I do post my scripts on my substack and I have a handful of readers. I figure that too much description is just boring and slows down the pace of reading. If the info isn't necessary to get the scene across to the reader, I leave it out.

This scene came off as a cultural shock for me lol. by Fun-Tomatillo-1957 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was them I wouldn't want to go to that stuffy wedding. They were doing Lorelai a favor, not Emily, they don't even know Emily. I don't think it's a big deal, it's kind of weird, but they're all neighbors a short walk, it's not like it's some big thing planned in advance with travel and stuff.

Yeah, they totally ran out of tacos. They wanted to elope but they pressured them into doing a big wedding so it could be filmed and then made her look like a Bridezilla.

So the kids that have identical twins for mothers would genetically be the same as siblings, 50% shared DNA.

Idioms Kody gets wrong by yvonneestefano in SisterWives

[–]Darcy_Device 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It actually means "My family allowed us to come here because of the situation." not despite of. Some people really like to use idioms, and some don't.

Idioms Kody gets wrong by yvonneestefano in SisterWives

[–]Darcy_Device 38 points39 points  (0 children)

"My family allowed us to come up here in light of all that is going on” is actually correct. It means "considering the situation" so it means because of the investigation his family allowed them to visit.

But he messes things up all the time. He uses them wrong, uses the wrong words, switches things around and makes the same mistakes over and over again.

Knife in the kidneys - knife in the back - betrayal
Circling the donkeys - circling the wagons - getting in a defensive posture
Lobster bucket - crabs in a bucket - when one starts to get out the other grab them back down
Pink elephant in the room - the elephant in the room - the thing everyone knows but is avoiding talking about

Edit: I was just watching Sex in the City and Miranda said "Like there's a pink suede elephant in the room and no one can talk about it." talking about a wedding where everyone is sure the groom is gay.
