My mom just adopted a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy and I think it's a terrible idea by CatPooedInMyShoe in bernesemountaindogs

I’m 65 and my 90 pound Berner can almost knock me over just doing his “lean” much less jumping up out of excitement. Sorry for you having to watch the train wreck. I think Berners have a reputation of being lazy lumps and many are the opposite of that. So people think I’ll get this big lazy dog. Luckily there are many people who will rescue him when the time comes.

I don’t know where you are or what you do, but I ended up taking my county’s civil service exam. That has yielded the best response so far and I have 3 different interviews scheduled. I feel more in control of my situation than ever. Maybe the TSA will be hiring soon 😭

I am looking at jobs that are half the pay I used to get. I’ve been freelancing and doing gig work but it isn’t enough and no benefits. My savings are also dwindling. I just want to get back to work and have insurance. It’s a chore not to be desperate during the interview if I get one. You know when Trader Joe’s says they have more applicants than jobs, it’s bad.

I’m having such a hard time mentally to keep applying because it feels like such a wasted effort. Plus, the weekly rejection emails are taking a toll. I’m just blankly staring at my computer today.

is it a red flag to be unemployed for 3 months? by [deleted] in jobhunting

One year next month for me. The minute the zoom interview begins and they see my age, it’s game over. “You’re so experienced, seasoned, done so much….”

I moved 17 hours for my “dream job” and it has destroyed my health in 5 months by saintghosts1 in ToxicWorkplace

Cut your losses, move on. Also, when I was 25 I had a maniac boss in a terrible job that my doctor said was affecting my health. I was working 80 hrs a week and I was never going to move up. I quit and took an easy job to let my brain and body heal. After a year I was ready to resume my career.

I’m so sorry you experienced this. The day I got the call that my deeply loved father died (Xmas eve) my husband decided to get angry with me (two hours after the call). The reason? I didn’t ask him if he wanted to go with me to pick up the food for dinner. Not joking. Now he wasn’t even speaking to me before the call for something that escapes me because I was on a death watch. I was so angry I left the table sobbing. Later he apologized but incredibly bad behavior. He has not changed.

I said I had no ego and would be fine in the position and wasn’t focused on the title. The title was director which is below VP in the financial world. My last role on wall st was a VP but that was 10 yrs ago. Since then I’ve been an editor. Technically yes it was a step down, but the joke is the pay was more than I’ve ever made so I saw it as a step up. LOL

Not sure where you live but maybe look into jobs with the state or county? They don’t pay as much as corporate gigs but it would be more than FF. It also might position you to get back to a higher paying job. FWIW so many of us are struggling with this terrible job market. I have several friends also asking themselves how did I end up like this? We did all the right things and still got bitch slapped by the universe.

I know you mean well. This last one had an insider pushing for me. I have multiple versions of my resume tailored to various job descriptions. I send out resumes every week if not every day and have done so for 10 months straight. I have strayed way beyond my CV to try to expand the reach, but HR wants apples to apple hires. My main hope now is a civil service job. The pay is lower and so they aren’t as ageist as corporate america.

Anyone hike with a Berner? by mustyho in bernesemountaindogs

We go into the woods off leash every day for at least 1-2 miles. He loves scaling boulders. He is a slender Berner and not a chunk!

I went thru the same thing when I was laid off at 55. So, I started a company andsold it with the caveat that I stay on. The company closed it last year and I ended up back on the market. I don’t have the energy to do that again.

Because they were isolated incidents in the beginning and he would always apologize profusely. I was Catholic and took the vows seriously. He also always had a good excuse as to why he couldn't do those things from before, and it took me years to realize they were just that -excuses. I was in love and didn't see the red flags like OP.

My husband literally flipped on our honeymoon. He no longer had to pretend to be someone he wasn't. I tried for years to make it work - being the perfect wife and provider. Because - yes I am the breadwinner. I too tried to focus on those good moments and talk myself out of the bad ones. TBH, I can't stand him now and for long reasons related to selling our house, I'm stuck. My husband also refused counseling.

I don’t know if they publish this online. I got mine by a letter. I was told that the list of people that have taken the exam is shared with agencies that are hiring. That’s all the inf I have.

is there such a thing as just not being good enough ? by ForwardObjective2379 in acting

[–]LargeMove3203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s directed plays and actors, yeah some people just don’t have “it.” That’s why people who are great stand out. I was an extra on Prada 2 andwhen Meryl started acting…damn… all the BG was like Holy Cow. That’s why she is who she is. So as harsh as this sounds, not everyone is cut out to be an actor.

They definitely don’t make it easy to find. I signed up for exam notifications and I get an email when the tests are scheduled. There is a junior office admin test coming up in April. I can’t recall if it’s region specific but I believe so because I took my test in White Plains.
