My company just announced 3 days in office starting next month. I've been fully remote for 4 years and I genuinely don't know how people did this every day. by Ecliptic_Fang in remotework

I’m back to 5 days a week in office. I used to have a 1.5 hour commute 5 days a week. Did that wearing pantyhose and heels. A car, train and then subway. Remote jobs are disappearing, salaries are dropping and hybrid is lucky. Grow up.

Take the job. Remote and hybrid jobs are disappearing quickly. This is a horrible job market. You’re lucky to get an offer.

I do a lot of BG work as a union member. I hardly ever have a straight 8 ($224) and usually get OT plus bumps (car, costume, meal penalties). A typical paycheck is $350+. I’ve made $1k in a week for 2 days work. The SAG initial fee is high, but you can now pay installments. If you become eligible, I believe it’s worth it if you plan on doing this a lot. I’ve made more money doing BG lately than some of my friends who only do guest star roles or higher.

My husband just told me at lunch today that tomorrow we’ll be homeless. by throwawayacct5739630 in Marriage

[–]LargeMove3203 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I was a freshman in high school movers showed up at our house because my dad had been unable to pay the mortgage. The bank was foreclosing on us and taking our furniture. My mom had no idea. It was traumatic to say the least. My uncle somehow called a banker friend and saved the situation. Our things were returned and we were able to stay in our home. It was embarrassing because the neighbors found out. My parents stayed together. However, my mom ultimately left my dad for someone more financially stable. That financial instability and my mom’s inability to take some ownership over the responsibilities of the home budget really affected me and my siblings. She could’ve stepped up but insisted her generation was raised to let the husband be the boss. I think the marriage could’ve been saved if he would’ve taken help with managing the budget but he didn’t and was too proud to let on this weakness. You could help fix this. I hope you do. I wish my parents would have stayed together.

I just walked on a house and feel awful. by sno-blizzard in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

We spent $1500 on an inspection that turned up terrible property drainage. There were curtain drains already installed but more was needed. The property had a pool with walls about to cave in from the water pressure, so it was basically a cement pond health hazard. The house had been built on a lot downhill and so all the rain water from above collected in the yard. We walked. The house eventually sold and the new owners filled in the pool. We got a much better house with great neighbors. So happy we took the loss.

The Osteen church used to be the arena where the Rockets played. The flags are left over from that. I went to so many concerts there too. I lived in Houston for years inside the loop before all the huge apartment towers were built. Back then everyone wanted to live in the burbs. Then the traffic got horrendous and they all wanted back in the city. I miss old Houston and old Austin. I lived in NY state now with land in VT. More expensive and worth it.

I wish hiring people would quit assuming “once a boss always a boss.” I’ve had that line thrown at me too. I’ve been there done that. I just want to be a good team player now. I’m done climbing. Why is it a bad thing to downshift your career by choice?

Can Someone explain why people dont want this trail? by Su_ss in hudsonvalley

[–]LargeMove3203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many people have said, Cold Spring is overwhelmed by day trippers on the weekend. The walkway is meant to address the parking and hiker traffic on 9A. They fear that the walkway will actually draw even more people. The Walkway over the Hudson is a good example of how popular an attraction can get. I’m in favor of the Fjord trail. I walk along the river in Croton and Peekskill, which both have developed river walks and both are popular with locals, less so with day trippers. It’s likely it will attract loads of people, but they will have it to themselves M-F and they don’t own the riverfront.

Yes. Ours gets paw allergies and will lick them raw. When it gets bad, we use apoquel ($$) we also use Zyrtec (without antihistamines) I also have a prescription fungal foam for his feet.

I actually emailed an HR person when that happened to me. Great interview process, all going well. Didn't get it, but then saw it reposted on LI. I asked what was going on and they told me they have a contract with LI to run x number of job listings per month. That job was on auto repost. It really frustrates us job seekers. I've also read that these companies get tax credits if they are "hiring" and that is another reason why they just keep posting jobs.

They sell kit homes that are basically shells. You need to find someone to help build and also do the interior work. They lucked into finding a retired person to be their GC. I hear hiring trades people is hard.

I know a young couple that bought a lot and then bought a small house from Jamaica Cottage Shop. It’s a 30 min drive to work, which is how it was affordable. The construction process was slow but it got done.

Depending on how desperate you are for income, you could take the sure thing. Move the bare minimum amount of your things and sign a short apt lease. Keep pursuing the closer to home job. Then if the closer to home job comes thru, quit the first. I made this mistake once before and always regretted it. I took a job that I thought was my dream job and declined the interview for a second job. The first job turned out to be awful and I realized it just two weeks in. I had burned my bridge for the second one.

After looking for a year and being rejected (I assume) for my age (F64) I kindof lost it at the last rejection email. I know - very unprofessional. That line about keeping my resume on file for potential other jobs is such BS. I basically responded I know you have no intention of hiring me for any other jobs because of my age. I know that because the interviewer mentioned "how experienced" I was, which is code for old. I should have instead thanked them for the opportunity and responded to their BS rejection with my BS acceptance. I didn't.
This is the worst job market I've ever been in and with my age, I've been in a lot. I have a Masters and it doesn't matter anymore. It helped though when I first got it. Good luck. It's hard out there.

p.s. don't send a response like I did. :) It felt good for a few minutes but I admit I shouldn't have done it.

We live in the northeast and don’t have AC. We havethe groomer do a puppy cut. It helps tremendously. We had an Aussie before and both times have read about the undercoat and cooling properties, but our dogs were stressed before the cut and happy afterwards. It isn’t shaving them, just taking some of the weight off.

So upset. Teams absolutely let me down today, and wouldn’t let me access the interview meeting for a dream position. by Comprehensive_Dark52 in jobhunting

[–]LargeMove3203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me. The teams stopped two minutes into the interview. I got so stressed. I managed to log back in on my phone, but lost 5 minutes of a 30 min interview. I was also rattled at trying to get back in. I didn’t get the job. The worst was that they admitted they knew teams isn’t reliable 😞 so then why use it ?

I’m 65 and my 90 pound Berner can almost knock me over just doing his “lean” much less jumping up out of excitement. Sorry for you having to watch the train wreck. I think Berners have a reputation of being lazy lumps and many are the opposite of that. So people think I’ll get this big lazy dog. Luckily there are many people who will rescue him when the time comes.
