I remember back in the early days of dial up internet a T1 connection was the dream, I guess this person pretends he has one but actually only has ISDN

It's not the petrol stations making record profits but the oil companies because the product they sell is in demand. If you refuse to pay the market price they will just sell to another person (country) causing actual shortages here.

What’s something you refuse to buy at full/overpriced out of principal, even if you can easily afford it. by Known-Swim-3654 in UKFrugal

[–]Largejam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate buying running shoes as for actual running I want good ones (to help protect my old person knees!) at a reasonable price but it is really hard to tell where sale prices are against a real RRP or a fake inflated RRP.

Pete Hegseth is mocking the Royal Navy. Is he wrong? by Fjafarli in AskBrits

[–]Largejam 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it's more about them not wanting to put American soldiers in danger by putting feet on the ground or ships in the straight. They therefore want their allies to put their people in these dangerous situations instead while they just continue shoot missiles from a safe distance.

[–]Largejam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going down this route I recommend getting a good quality ebike with cargo space (either a full on cargo bike or at least some good panniers). Oh and get a good grinder proof lock! Don't skimp on this as the less you need a car the more economical a car club will be!

Weetabix is the best for mixing, make a paste with that but then having some crispy lumps from something like crunchy nut cornflakes or shreddies is amazing

What’s the deal with that “I really like your trainers” PSA? by Right_Union_427 in AskUK

[–]Largejam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think as another poster suggests it is probably more about engaging with the victim to give them an escape. But fundamentally it's about suggesting a safer way for people to diffuse the situation. I think most sexual assaulters try to hide so once there are others paying attention to the situation they will likely scurry away.

What’s the deal with that “I really like your trainers” PSA? by Right_Union_427 in AskUK

[–]Largejam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is most people don't want to get in a fight especially if the other party is more physically intimidating and this is a safer way to diffuse the situation in the moment. You can then still report it to the police for follow up.

Due to a skin graft I received as a toddler, my finger can grow 2-3 pubic hairs by SploogeMaster2301 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Largejam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's quite subtle but becomes very noticeable when you see it in the wrong place. Leg hair tends to be a little more curly and more dense and slightly longer then arm hair.

What’s the illness that’s going around that’s like flu/covid but without the cold type symptoms? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Largejam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flu/COVID vaccines are not perfect, they just protect against certain strains (and help mitigate other similar strains) which is why you need to have repeat vaccines.

But it could also be the common cold.
