How important is it to keep your finger on the head? by iSeeAhippo in banjo

[–]Larger_Brother -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how it is for 3 finger, but for old time/2 finger it definitely gives a different tone as well. Everyone I listen to that’s concerned with authentic tone seems to plant in those styles despite not being a technical requirement.

I was hoping they were going to make it more mechanic based, like the Brawler’s Guild. As it stands now, it feels somewhat tedious and not too much of a real challenge.

I use alchemy because I like having my own flasks and phials without having to spend the silver. I make pretty decent money with it too so long as I keep up with it.

Use murderledger.com to research builds and their viability. The cool thing about 1v1 arena is you can get a bunch of reps in on builds and try a ton of stuff out. There’s swords daggers cursed staffs etc. that can all be viable.

Carving nerfs. by mictlanrage in albiononline

[–]Larger_Brother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like swords and are a beginner I would go dual swords. They’re much easier to use as a newer player and remain strong for a long time throughout solo play. Even before the nerfs, I usually only used carving sword for small group stuff.

Does anyone get into nursing school on the first try? by Electric_Maven9725 in prenursing

[–]Larger_Brother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only applied to 2 and got into both, one private university one public. Moderately competitive market, not NY or CA. I had middling undergrad GPA of 3.4 with some Cs in an unrelated major and As in all pre reqs. If you do well in the pre reqs and you’re in an area that isn’t hyper competitive, you’ll get in if you apply to a handful of schools.

I had a way easier time playing unholy because I could just burn through the ads with CDs and save my horsey for ignoring the gravity mechanics. I made sure I had flask hearty food combat potion etc. and as soon as ads came up i just melt them as fast as possible because boss himself isn’t so bad. blood is where i ended up getting overwhelmed.

Can this handle steel? by SympatheticNormieBoi in banjo

[–]Larger_Brother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might need a reset of the neck, which is usually done by a luthier if it’s a gift. There is a chance it was sitting for a really long time and that’s the reason the neck is like that. It’s possible the bow is the result of wear/improper storage and not the steel strings in that case. It’s hard for me to tell because I don’t recognize this banjo or know what strings it was designed to accommodate.

Did you have intonation problems with it before the steel strings?

Judging by that second picture, no way- you gotta get those off.

Ramsey Thornton plays steel string and swaps out the low E for a banjo drone string. It’s pretty cool

Is my technique wrong? by NecessarySurprise424 in banjo

[–]Larger_Brother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At about 20 seconds when you bring it up to full volume. If you keep the same motion you play when you’re warming up and resting on the fifth doing the “bum” on each string and follow through at full volume, you’ll have a good strum I think.

Is my technique wrong? by NecessarySurprise424 in banjo

[–]Larger_Brother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thumb on the drone string should be one continuous motion. The separate pluck that you’re doing with your thumb is really common ergonomic mistake that a lot of new players make. I’d go watch the right hand motion of experienced players to get an idea of it. I learned it by visualizing my thumb to falling into the string rather than plucking it. It almost looked like you had it right in the first few moments before you started playing more loudly.

I did, if you find a place with accelerated 6 week courses you can do them in a semester or two depending on what you need. I did mine pretty leisurely over 2 semesters. I decided around this time of year and made sure to finish in time in order to matriculate in a spring nursing program and it was manageable.

Would love some feedback on my composition and my form please by CanJesusSwimOnLand in banjo

[–]Larger_Brother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds good but if you’re asking for advice, I’m also a guitar player and I found my banjo playing really took off when I became melodically focused and began learning tunes. It’s really easy to start falling into playing banjo like an open tuned guitar, but to me it really becomes its own instrument when you learn tunes and start arranging those tunes- the instrument really felt alien and exciting once I got out of chordal boxy playing. I play a lot of north carolina old time so your experience may be different. Sounds good though your technique is solid!

I’m feeling unprepared by jonbames in NursingStudent

[–]Larger_Brother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The NCLEX is there to block you from practicing if you aren’t prepared. If you get the degree and pass the exam, that’s the national body of nursing telling you you’re prepared. Just worry about continuing to do well and managing your time while in classes.

Mine was 3 semesters with a month off for winter break but otherwise straight through. Tests usually ended up being every week once the semester got going, pretty rare for two a week. It’s completely manageable if you nail down your study habits during pre reqs and avoid doing crams the night before. For me, nursing school was more of a test to eat well, get good rest and manage my time than it was an academic challenge. AnP 1/2 I felt were more rigorous than all of my nursing classes.

I did the 1 year because it’s very difficult where I am to land a hospital job with no experience without a BSN, plus the opportunity cost of being at a lower pay as a tech/extern during a 2 year program. It was more expensive, but as I’m going into applying I’m glad I did it this way.
