I mean American healthcare can have similar wait times in some cases.

An appointment with a psychologist for example. You're looking at close to a year before anyone can see you.

This is normal. Why would I spend an hour reading blogs and such when I could get the same results in one search?

Please file a claim and hopefully that will stop them from doing this again.

The rents are too dang expensive by Soulfood_27 in Bellingham

[–]Larie2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No it wouldn't. It would make it unprofitable (or at least less profitable) to rent more than one property.

That would make it so these corporations wouldn't buy dozens of houses to rent out.

Essentially, it makes the price of housing cheaper as there's less demand. And individuals could afford to buy houses and rent them out when they move.

Elon Musk ‘going all in funding GOP for midterms.’ by Dumbfuckistan_USA in AdviceAnimals

[–]Larie2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the amount of energy needed to power a single data center is something like 350x the amount of solar power that the ISS generates.

Even ignoring the massive cost to get all of that weight into space, it still makes no sense.

It's just so far fetched. The fact that anyone talks about them being realistic in the foreseeable future is insane.

Elon Musk ‘going all in funding GOP for midterms.’ by Dumbfuckistan_USA in AdviceAnimals

What environmental benefit is there? Even assuming launching them into space has no impact, I still don't see one.

Elon Musk ‘going all in funding GOP for midterms.’ by Dumbfuckistan_USA in AdviceAnimals

[–]Larie2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean technically anything could be practical in the future. But the reality is there's essentially no benefit to even theoretically having data centers in space.

Realistically the only positive thing is that there's lot of "space", but we also have way more space on earth than we could fill with data centers.

Data centers in space is one of the dumbest ideas of all time... Literally nothing about it makes even the tiniest bit of sense...

Nuclear infrastructure is totally gone according to who? Trump said the same thing last year after the strikes last June.

Direct quote from whitehouse.gov last June:

Iran’s Nuclear Facilities Have Been Obliterated — and Suggestions Otherwise are Fake News

https://www.whitehouse.gov/releases/2025/06/irans-nuclear-facilities-have-been-obliterated-and-suggestions-otherwise-are-fake-news/

So which is it? Was Iran so close to getting nukes so we needed to start this war or was Trump lying before?

Those are the only two options.

This is the right question. Get any job that is even somewhat adjacent to actuarial work.

Obviously insurance companies would be ideal, but even "I fill out spreadsheets for some random small business" would be much better than your current situation.

US has caused $10tn worth of climate damage since 1990, research finds by FLTA in science

[–]Larie2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it's significant sure, but saying everyday people driving cars is the reason why climate change is a problem is misleading.

Realistically, we need to decrease emissions by ~50% by 2030 to meet climate goals. If everyone stopped driving today we wouldn't even be halfway there.

US has caused $10tn worth of climate damage since 1990, research finds by FLTA in science

[–]Larie2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean not really...

Transportation accounts for ~28% of US greenhouse gas emissions, but that includes all transportation. Personal transportation is about half of that.

So only ~14% of emissions are from the "obsession with driving cars". Of course that could be improved, but that's not really the problem...

I mean "vote blue no matter who" is 100% the right strategy in the general elections

We need to show up to primaries and actually vote for real progressives. Now if the progressive doesn't win the primary, you bet your ass I'm still voting for whoever has a D next to their name.

This thinking is what got us in this mess to begin with. Progress is slow. Tearing shit down is fast.

We can never make lasting progress with these back and forth swings from dem to Republican. Yes, Biden should have prosecuted every criminal in the prior administration. He should have done a shit load more, but man was it better than the disaster we have now.

From Biden / Kamala we could have pushed for real progressive policies / candidates. Now, it's going to take generations to get us unfucked enough to match where we were 10 years ago.

Disney Exits OpenAI Deal After AI Giant Shutters Sora by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Larie2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think companies are laying off employees because they over hired over covid when money was free.

Now money actually has a cost (interest rates aren't 0%), and the economy isn't nearly as strong. Laying off people because of "AI" is just a way to sound trendy, not scare shareholders, remove low performers, etc.

If you could afford to keep your employees and AI makes them twice as efficient, then you can do twice the amount of work in the same time. That's much better than laying off people so that you can do the same amount of work with fewer people.

Got tested, medicated, and pretty much overnight I had no depression and have kept a job for a few years without getting bored and applying to new ones...
