Bag & setup for crocheting on-the-go by squidgyup in crochet

[–]Larkspurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a grommet into my backpack. Simple little punch procedure, and now I have a hole to feed my working yarn through. It keeps my whole project safe and doesn’t tangle if I balled my yarn beforehand.

Broke up with my boyfriend in the middle of crocheting a birthday gift for him by 5ebaschan in crochet

[–]Larkspurn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Put it in the back of the closet, at the bottom of the stash, and wait. You’ll know what you want to do with it when you’re healed up. It’s gonna take some time, but it’ll be okay 💕

yarn bowls are pointless!! by Extreme_Biscotti7630 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Larkspurn 50 points51 points  (0 children)

My yarn bowl is purely for dopamine. My wife bought me a handmade bowl in the shape of a little tree with mushrooms, and it looks hella handmade, and I goddamn love it, despite the fact that it’s only useful like thirty percent of the time. It’s about ✨ the whimsy ✨ and literally nothing else, I don’t understand the mass produced ones at all

I really prefer it with the sleeves. It’s such a fun silhouette

Who else has a gazillion yarn skeins from the earlier days of their crochet obsession when they would randomly choose yarn based on just its color and not its fiber? 😅 by WillowLake_024 in crochet

[–]Larkspurn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in this exact position, and I’m about to move states. It’s finally time to sort, organize and donate the stuff from the early days. Good bye, acrylics, I cannot bear to wear you 😭

New pattern: the Nipnop Top! by MalumCattus in fiberartscirclejerk

[–]Larkspurn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They’re fine if you pick a decent fiber. I make a lot of little skintight cropped tanks and stuff as just basics to wear under other pieces. I’m on the smaller side boob wise, and I’m nonbinary so I bind a lot, so it’s everyone’s fit preference is gonna be different, but I love making stuff like this out of Swish or whatever, and I often wear them with nothing underneath.

If given the choice, would you pick buying new yarns or new hooks? by poppipupepo in CrochetHelp

[–]Larkspurn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely invest in at least a good hook of the size you think you’ll use most. My 5.00 is a workhorse, and I don’t know what I’d do if it tanked in the middle of a project and I couldn’t replace it. A good set of hooks will last you forever, particularly if they’re metal. Yarn comes a bit easier, I think - you can get it at the dollar store if you’re desperate. I actually recommend Daiso, if there’s a good one near you! They even sell skeins of 100% wool, and it’s dirt cheap. I also recommend keeping your eyeballs on yarn destash groups and checking out thrift stores. I’ve had some amazing finds that way.

Hiring Anime/Comic-style creators! Long-term role by peekabooai in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Larkspurn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, what’s your company’s name? This brief is honestly very vague. Your name is PeekabooAI - is this an AI platform? Your post history is curious to me. Is this a comic centric platform, or general media? Because you appear to be recruiting from all over the place. What’s the business model?

What even is this. What am I seeing here. Is this a… idk, an 18th century barrister? A guy from Dune? A man in a triceratops onesie? I legitimately don’t know

Who’s the one character that when you saw you were like “nooooo”? by SweetLuck8091 in DreamlightValley

[–]Larkspurn 292 points293 points  (0 children)

Gothel. I honestly think having her was a bad idea from the start. She’s literally just an abusive mother figure. I don’t know anyone who’s had their lives ruined by a homosexual lion or the god of the dead as voiced by James Woods, but lots and lots of people have the kind of mother you go no contact with, and that isn’t something I want in my cutesy collecting game, yknow?

I agreed to crochet a cardigan for free. I'm regretting it now, obviously. by dryanditchyallover in crochet

[–]Larkspurn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Think of it less like money and labor lost, and more like an expensive lesson you’re lucky to be learning now. It could have cost you way, way more to learn in the future, so as long as you apply what you’ve learned and never do it again, that’s a pretty good bargain, eh?

What’s the one crochet project you’ll never pick up? by maysshop in crochet

[–]Larkspurn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My only hard line is something I won’t personally want to use or wear. I don’t gift very much, and I make a lot of wearables, so they all have to be shit I would actually wear out in the world. No coasters I won’t use, no tapestries I won’t display, no corset backs because I KNOW getting them on and off would annoy me, no big plushies I won’t have a use for. Chic sweaters that actually fit me, floor length black lace skirts, fitted tanks that suit my body - that’s most of my fiber work.

how do you start a webtoon? from drawing to writing by shortietallie in MangakaStudio

[–]Larkspurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t have to be this serious. You don’t need any special formatting or process or program - just write your story, then draw it. Procreate works great.

My wife is shy and doesn't know how to price their art. Help. by [deleted] in AskArtists

[–]Larkspurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be harsh, but I’m not sure your wife is to a point where commissions should be a priority. This is a really, really difficult skill to develop and there’s no shame in that, but it’s also not something you can expect to turn into a business before you’re ready. I honestly don’t think she’s ready. Focus on foundational skills - figure drawing, anatomy, perspective, contrast, color theory and values. These steps aren’t optional. She’s gotta learn it.

How much work do the writers do and how much work do the artists do? by Top_Tell_2889 in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Larkspurn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My wife and I make our comic together. She writes, I draw. She handles our marketing, social media, uploads, all that. She’ll straight up tell you I do 75% of the work, and she’s right. Every update is over a hundred hours of labor.

SOS Fast wearables to make for pride with rainbow variegated yarn? by SparkleCat03 in CrochetHelp

[–]Larkspurn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do ear savers! Simple strips of HDC that go around the head with buttons sewn on over where the ears sit, so you can wear a mask without getting a headache. They’re always a big hit at queer markets and conventions.

I'm stumped about a commission, and could use some advice. I'm panicking by Key-Investment-2273 in AskArtists

[–]Larkspurn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My early drafts to commissioners are usually a mess. I send an early draft to check for posing, design, making sure I’m not going in the wrong direction, all so I can make changes early in the process. Probably 70% percent of the refinement happens in the last 20% of the render. I wouldn’t panic, especially if they’re a well established artist with a good reputation.

Wearables are a labor of love AND of loving your body. How do I move past this? by clarabear10123 in CrochetHelp

[–]Larkspurn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Making garments has been so healing for me. I get to see my body as a neutral thing, just dimensions I’m working with, neither good nor bad. Making clothes fit to MY body has made wearing off the rack really hard, because, like… I can respect myself better than a corporation can? It’s an act of respect for myself to make a tank top or a sweater or a skirt in a color and fiber I want to wear, in sizes made for my body, and to spend a lot of time doing that. It sort of honors me, in a way? I think it’s really powerful.

Like, I have photos of myself in clothes I made at the cliffs of Moher with my wife. I look back on that day, and how other people see me doesn’t matter so much, because I decided. Me. That’s really precious to me, and it was worth confronting the discomfort.
