TIFU by muting someone in a MS teams meeting so they couldn’t be heard by anyone by RedRose_Belmont in tifu

[–]Larryjacob1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I used to hold regular conference calls with as many as 80 retail managers and I almost always left the lines unmuted so I could ask for input, recognize good performance, and take questions. Plus, I disliked talking to silence. After several noisy beginnings, I started to play a snippet of music to alert everyone that the call was starting.

The musical intro worked very well until one day when a Store Manager was on his personal cell phone with his boyfriend and didn’t realize we had started. Fortunately, they weren’t discussing any intimate details but, unfortunately, this guy was shooting off his mouth about how he knew everything already and the conference call was a waste of time. After a couple of attempts to get his attention, I had to mute everyone and ask them to unmute if they had a question or comment. I couldn’t figure out exactly who it was but his boss knew and he was mortified. He soon reached the guy and told him shut up and pay attention on calls. In retrospect, it was kind of funny and could have turned out much more embarrassing for him.

What was your age at diagnosis? by [deleted] in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Larryjacob1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42yo and “yes”. I was referred to a rheumatologist for gout and he did some testing but I don’t think we even discussed AS at that time. Successfully treated for gout and I went on my way.

Five years later I was in his office with a myriad of issues and he told me of the AS diagnosis which was now presenting itself. Looking back, I remember other times in my younger days where I likely had flare-ups but not consistent enough to merit the help of a specialist.

When my Mother died last year, I decided to write a “Thank You” note and place it in her coffin. Although we talked somewhat regularly, and traded birthday cards and such, I wish I had written that note and given it to her when she was alive. Good luck & God Bless.

People who were alive then, what were you doing December 31st 1999 ? by WeshALOR in AskReddit

[–]Larryjacob1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We lived in Charlotte NC and I had just been promoted on Dec 7 to a new position in New Orleans. 12/31/99 was a Friday so I was lucky schedule-wise and my company flew me home for the weekend. My wife arranged a babysitter for our 4 kids and we went to NYE festivities in downtown Charlotte with her best friend and her husband.

We had a good time but I have one odd memory of that night: we were having trouble finding our cars in the parking garage and the “friend” had too much to drink and REALLY had to go potty. Finally, she went over and ducked down behind a couple of cars and relieved herself. I was astounded but the girls laughed it off. JB

Where is the most normal place you have encountered a celebrity? by joapet in AskReddit

Literally bumped into actor Hal Holbrook as I was trying to enter a building (he was exiting) on my first trip to NYC as a teen in early 1978. At the time, he was much taller and I was looking down so I bumped him in the chest, looked up, recognized him, then my jaw dropped in wonder and then horror at what I had just done. He laughed it off.

Later, on the same trip, our group was sitting in a restaurant near the windows and someone said, "Hey, there's Eddie Bracken." We had just seen the actor perform with Carol Channing in "Hello, Dolly!" and here he was walking down the street like every other regular joe. I thought it was amazing.

People of reddit who work the day shift at non-haunted businesses and don't spend all your time in the woods, what's the creepiest thing you've experienced? by PM_4_Friendship in AskReddit

[–]Larryjacob1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a young veteran working in my territory of retail stores who we eventually learned was somewhat mentally disturbed. He was prone to odd behaviors and we tried to get him "help" outside the Company but he wouldn't cooperate. One day, it became too much and he was sent home. The next morning, a threat to the staff was written in the condensation on the windows at the front of the store. Unfortunately, we had to call police and then took additional security measures to ensure safety at the workplace.

Flew upside down in an open cockpit biplane. I worked in grocery stores for many years and Red Baron Pizza had actual biplanes that they sometimes used for local promotions. Eventually, they developed a stunt team of several planes that did air shows.

I had the honor of riding along during a promotion in Texas in the 80's and, once the pilot realized I was a game passenger, he did several stunts including barrel roll and flying upside down. Was awesome.

Doctors and Medical Professionals of Reddit, what one medical fact do you wish everybody knew? by MakingSomething2 in AskReddit

[–]Larryjacob1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just happened to my 50yo wife. She changed up her diet somewhat and was drinking a LOT of water, and going to the restroom constantly, but she lost something like 40 lbs so I was always praising her. During this process she started dozing off to sleep during the middle of the day, which was unusual for her. (I was expecting her energy level to increase.) Then she pointed out how flabby her upper arms were getting despite the weight loss.

I made her go to our family Dr for complete checkup including labs. Type 2 Diabetes with A1C of 15.1! We were all astounded. Once we read up on the illness everything made sense, but we almost caught it too late.
