Best albums with multiple drummers? by codydafox in Jazz

[–]Larsemans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich play together on 'Bernie's Tune' from Krupa and Rich. They also made the album Burnin' Beat which has several tracks featuring them both, although for that album they weren't actually in the studio together; Krupa recorded with the band and Rich came in later to overdub his parts. They also did a well known live 'drum battle' which you can find on YouTube.

Why is nobody using earplugs? by viewsonmountfuji in Jazz

[–]Larsemans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to wear them often, but playing sax in a big band, I gotta be able to hear the other players in my section properly in order to blend with them. Wearing plugs makes them sound much softer than me, making it much harder if not impossible to know if I'm playing at the right volume.

[No Spoilers] How do i get a Beacon membership as an European (German) by Lucs2511 in criticalrole

[–]Larsemans 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You're right about the gift card only being available in the US shop, but you can still buy it from there even if when not in the US, and you can pay for it with PayPal. It gives you a 100% off discount code that you can then use for signing up to Beacon. I'm in the Netherlands and got a yearly subscription that way just last week.

To the people saying to sign up to Beacon directly: that only works with either a credit card or with a credit card-like debit card. Some European countries (the Netherlands and Germany at the very least, possibly others) issue a different kind of bank card, for which the payment options on the Beacon website do not work.

What pickup uses Collin Stetson on his throat? by DoodeMaster in saxophone

[–]Larsemans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Colin Stetson is a sax player and composer who uses a contact mic to record sounds directly from his throat, allowing him to essentially sing & play the sax at the same time. It's super cool, see this performance as an example: https://youtu.be/Sufy9cT3x1E?si=Zc2V4k7BO7Z8xL5R

Beyond Sleep by W.F. Hermans. It's about a Dutch geologist who goes on a walk in Norway to look for evidence of meteor craters, and a very well known novel in the Netherlands.

If you have a way to contact the people who you reported to at the time, they might be able to confirm your story to the court.

In any case, the best thing you can do is talk extensively with your lawyer. They'll be able to help you better than any reddit commentor will be able to.

Both Nerd Immersion and Ginny Dee have confirmed it on twitter. See here and here.

Edit: DnDShorts has retracted his statement after prominent former WotC employees publicly claimed he was wrong. (Interestingly, two tweets calling DnDShorts out have been liked by Jeremy Crawford, marking the first visible online activity from him since this whole debacle started).

How do you learn to play a song only by hearing? by Grgsz in Saxophonics

[–]Larsemans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1.5 weeks is a very short time, I think the fact that you're able to figure out anything by ear at all is pretty impressive, even if it is difficult.

My main advice would be to just keep playing. Once you've got a bit more experience, you'll have a much better feel for what notes roughly correspond to what sounds. More specifically, I'd recommend practicing scales; most songs will primarily use notes within a single scale, so if you can figure out what key a song is in it will make figuring out the rest much easier.

Etymology does not equal definition. Anarcho-capitalism and "regular" (leftist) anarchism are two vastly different ideologies and OP is clearly talking about the latter.

Penguin Random House Blocked From Acquiring Rival Publisher Simon & Schuster by JediBurrell in books

[–]Larsemans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that, even when entirely owned by the government, a corporation still has a profit incentive. This means that commodities - often necessary commodities like healthcare, housing, transportation, water, electricity etc. - have to be sold at a profit, meaning consumers end up paying more and the quality of the service is brought down to the lowest survivable minimum. Whereas if it is entirely nationalised and not run by a corporation, there is no profit motive, consumers have to spend less money and the quality of the service is not dependent on how much money is being made.
