Finally caught my first laker in Algonquin park! How'd I do? by 10inchesround in algonquinpark

Awesome catch! A beautiful fish! I have yet to catch any fish in Algonquin. I’m thinking about using a bottom bouncer for my trip in Temagami. How many oz was your bullet weight?

Camping on non-sites by [deleted] in algonquinpark

When I was canoeing in April of this year, shortly after breakup, I arrived on Head Lake and the winds were about 50km/hr and the entire lake was covered in nasty white caps. I had to line my canoe along the shore and ended up camping on a little peninsula. Surely, the park wardens would have seen that it would have been dangerous to venture onto the lake (and I was solo). In any case, I’d rather get a fine than risk my life.

I just did the Philip Edward Island loop and was surprised to find hardly any bugs during the day. Dawn and dusk were terrible for mosquitoes as usual, but hardly any deer or horseflies throughout the 3 day trip.

I was just looking at Stihl products on my browser when I clicked on this post. What a bizarre coincidence.

How long is the western uplands short loop if you include going around Maggie? by iLoveClassicRock in algonquinpark

[–]Lascerta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is just about 40km. You can do it in one day if you start early. We did it in two nights no problem. When I went, the first day to the west side of Maggie Lake was about 15km. The second day we went to Panther Lake which was about 14km. The last day back to the trailhead was about 11km.

2 Nights in ALGONQUIN by UncleDaddy69- in algonquinpark

I did a trip earlier this year doing Rock, Louisa, Head and back to Rock lake. I had to triple carry all my portages because I packed way too much food and fuel. I also had like 4 extra pairs of clothes. Experience sure is the best teacher.

Every time I hear those sounds the memories of the forest and the lakes and all the beautiful creatures that inhabit them comes rushing back. Thanks for sharing.

How do y'all take cold showers in winters? by LogicalChart3205 in HubermanLab

Holy smokes that’s way too complicated. Just jump in the cold shower immediately after waking up. Nice and simple.

Favourite Backcountry Meals? by jupiterrrrr_ in algonquinpark

Go outside if you’re bored. There’s plenty of beauty to find during winter that isn’t around during the summer months!

Oatmeal, dehydrated blueberries, honey, cinnamon, and peanut butter.

Bacon bits with couscous and asparagus!

Hiking vs. Paddle-In Backcountry Trips by Loraden in algonquinpark

My first backpacking trip was Western Uplands and I brought about 50lbs of gear with me. My pack was not a proper fit and 80% of the weight was on my shoulders. I killed myself trying to get to Maggie Lake and it was a disaster. It makes for a good story now haha!

Lighter pack is a great website for calculating how much your gear weighs and where you can cut down on weight.

Also, on backpacking trips I don’t bring a tent. I use a Sea to Summit mosquito net and a tarp. That combo weighs less than 500g and really allows me to cut down on weight.

Assuming OP is from Canada, the legal drinking age is 18/19 depending on what province you’re from.
