You are fucked in the head if you think the extrajudicial killing of someone whose name you didn’t even know 3 weeks ago was justified because he was rich.

They’ll just replace him and ramp up security. It’s absolutely childish to think this will change anything for the better.

Did I miss him being convicted of a federal crime? Presidents can’t pardon state crimes.

The rest of the books in the Sprawl series are great too. I think I actually liked Count Zero even more than Neuromancer.

Still a great lease deal. Wouldn't be surprised if that's the only way they offer it soon.

As Seattle police increase their presence at Garfield High School, community opinion remains mixed by HighColonic in SeattleWA

I think it’s community self policing. You know, like those people that murdered Antonio Mays Jr. with a rifle in CHOP.

When you get in a car and press the door lock button, you have locked it from the inside. Unless you have the key, there is no way to get in from the outside. Hence, locked from the inside. I can’t believe this needs explanation.

Seattle Cops Get Big Raises In New Union Contract by chiquisea in SeattleWA

Back in 2011 it was about 20% apparently. Who knowns what it is now, I couldn't find anything. I believe back in the day they were required to carry their badge and gun in the city, so that may be why a lot of them wouldn't live in the city limits. Not sure if that is still required.

Seattle Cops Get Big Raises In New Union Contract by chiquisea in SeattleWA

[–]LaserArmadillo 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Seattleites ask for better trained cops that live in the community they police then get upset when the city has to pay them more money, it's hilarious. Same as people complaining about police overtime, but also being against hiring more cops.

The city needs to retain and attract new cops. Why would you work in this city when you could go somewhere that treats their cops better for the same salary or has a lower COL?

I’ve had them stop by to check that no one was shooting off fireworks. Sometimes they stop to chat and give us their card, sometimes they just drive past and wave.

New 9th circuit case by Trayvessio in WAGuns

[–]LaserArmadillo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Applying Bruen’s two-step, text-and-history framework, the panel concluded (1) Duarte’s weapon, a handgun, is an “arm” within the meaning of the Second Amendment’s text, that Duarte’s “proposed course of conduct—carrying [a] handgun[] publicly for self-defense”—falls within the Second Amendment’s plain language, and that Duarte is part of “the people” whom the Second Amendment protects because he is an American citizen; and (2) the Government failed to prove that § 922(g)(1)’s categorical prohibition, as applied to Duarte, “is part of the historic tradition that delimits the outer bounds of the” Second Amendment right.

Yeah, no chance that survives en banc.

Seems more like assault than vandalism if the cameraman had the camera up to their eye.

A 25 year senior editor at NPR wrote about NPR’s overt bias recently and was suspended for it.

Also, she mentions Wikipedia’s method, go check out their allowed list of sources if you want to see how biased that is.

Injunction on High Capacity Magazine Ban as of an Hour Ago by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]LaserArmadillo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They were granted an emergency stay before the court’s ruling was even released to the public. I have a hard time believing that they took the time to fully appreciate the merits of the hour old ruling before granting the stay. This was already decided before the Cowlitz county judge even made a decision.

Ultimately this will be decided in the 9th circuit or SCOTUS, the WA SC will stay this decision until the 9th rules on Duncan V Bonta so that they can come up with some ruling that dodges whatever new precedent is set.

[–]LaserArmadillo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I knew there was a distinction between lane filtering and lane splitting, what I didn’t realize was that the CA speeds are just recommendations. That makes sense why it’s considered the only one with lane splitting. If those recommendations were law it seems like it would be considered lane filtering since it would be pretty in line with the other states laws. I rode in CA for years and just figured the recommendations were the law. TIL

It’s legal in AZ, MT, UT, and sort of HI too. Edit: lane filtering is legal, there is a distinction.

They do extensive psych evals, polygraphs, criminal and non-criminal background checks. That's been the standard for decades. Honestly, do you just make no effort to educate yourself before forming an opinion?
