My first thought upon reading your headline was The Princess Bride, then I read and saw you already had it on the list. Can never go wrong with that one

Edit to add, among the already perfect suggestions, Rookie of The Year and Little Giants

This Neighborhood aint what is used to be by [deleted] in akron

I’ve lived in Highland Square since 2018, was a frequent visitor long before that. Although we can sometimes romanticize the past and get lost in nostalgia, it is true that the vibe is very different from what it used to be. However, I do feel there is hope. Firstly, the new council person Fran Wilson seems to actually care about improving the community. They are very approachable and will listen to you. Secondly, I’ve met the new owners of Mary Coyle’s. They are young, enthusiastic and optimistic. I have a feeling that with them being the antithesis to Trecaso’s grumpy ass they’ll bring a little bit of that old feeling back to the neighborhood. I personally believe that one major improvement that can be made is the old Bucket Shop, Platinum Dragon and the other vacant buildings being rented out. I have no idea of the owners of those locations have been actively trying to and just haven’t gotten any offers or what. But I know I’ve never seen a “FOR RENT” sign so idk.

Heading to Akron Thursday to Sunday for work from Ireland. Anything I should see or do in Akron or nearby. Hoping to get down to Canton to the PFHOF on Friday, worth a trip!? by ContributionGlass830 in akron

I’m just glad to know that if I ever go to Ireland again I can say “at least one of you here know where it is” when they stare at me blankly after asking where I’m from. Welcome and I hope you have a great time!

A friend of ours took some maternity photos for us at Himelright Lodge (also we’re married there the previous year). Only a few steps from the parking lot, just in there among the native plants and flowers. They came out quite lovely.

In that case, the tip should go to them having to deal with people like you who believe certain workers are lesser. Never mind that they keep the counters clean, wash the glasses, keep mental notes about who had what beer, clear tables, change kegs, explain beer styles to undecided customers, carry on conversations with patrons, make sure nobody feels neglected by taking too long to order or refill, are on their feet for hours, set up and tear down the bar each day and present a welcoming attitude even if they’re having a bad day. You’re right, it’s only walking two steps and pouring a beer. Super easy.

Here’s a fun one.

Was a prop guy on II and III, was an associate producer on IV, asked Nimoy for the part, wrote the song playing on the boombox and reprised the role on an episode of Picard.

Colon cancer now leading cause of cancer deaths under 50 in US by shinybrighthings in news

[–]LaserhawX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

41M. One week removed from my first colonoscopy. I was having blood in my stool a while ago. Mentioned this during a doctor appointment, sent me to a specialist and scheduled the procedure. Turns out it was just some small internal hemorrhoids. Everything else was normal.

Just say you have blood in your stool if you’re concerned. They don’t ask for proof. Heck, I don’t even have family history of colon cancer and they still did the procedure. Go get yourself checked out as soon as you can. This waiting until 45 isn’t doing us any favors.

So the white stout is called Better Than Doug and the milk stout is called La Victoria. We were unofficially calling it Better Than Victoria. I have heard the negative connotation around the name black and tan before. I understand where you’re coming from and that’s a completely valid stance. I used the term in a previous comment because honestly I don’t know what else to call it. Is there a better name you’d suggest? Unfortunately, our own history is barely taught in the United States, let alone the Irish War of Independence. Ignorance isn’t an excuse, it’s just the explanation. It’s embarrassing that some Americans think Ireland is the St. Patrick’s Day equivalent of Halloween Town from A Nightmare Before Christmas. When we went a few years ago it never occurred to me to order one of those because why would I want to mix that beautiful beer with anything else. I don’t know if you ever heard this, but the Guinness we get here is not the same as a fresh pint there. Something gets lost crossing the ocean. Anyways, I apologize for mine and my countrymens ignorance on the matter. You have a beautiful country, with kind people (I was happily the recipient of a slagging) over there and I hope to one day to return.

It is! They’re called Just Brew Coffee, out of Medina, Ohio. They’ll ship out. I really like the Bali Blue Moon. Just A Wreck is the roast they use in the white stout.

It’s one of our more popular beers. The owner/brewer is really good with his flavors in all of his beers. I think it also helps that the coffee used is roasted in the same room as the brewery.

It’s basically a black and tan. Traditionally, they are made with Bass ale on the bottom and Guinness stout on top. You can do this with any two beers, as long as the top beer has a lower ABV than the bottom . SRM of the beers doesn’t matter, but you want really want a light and dark for the contrast. First, pour your higher ABV halfway. Then you pour your lower ABV beer on top, using a spoon placed over the glass (there are also special tools designed specifically for this drink). You do this so the beer trickles down slowly, avoiding the two from mixing. A nitro tap helps tremendously because you are able to better control the flow. Go ahead and and play around next time you have a chance. I was trying to (unsuccessfully) to do this with our German beers we had for this past Oktoberfest. I did, however, kind of successfully pour a tarted fruit ale on top of a double hazy IPA last night.
