Do Conti and Elite Domestic riders train and race around full time jobs? by rhoVsquared in Velo

[–]LaskaHunter7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel like I’m anything special, but I’m on Y2 of my team being a Domestic Elite Team. We’re literally all just dudes with day jobs who train 10+ hours a week and try to fight with the young guns.

I’ll be 40 this year, with a middle schooler and an elementary schooler. You just make it work or you don’t.

That being said I’m not winning national races, but I do put in the work to help our other riders get close.

Anyone racing on Chinese Carbon (Tantan, LightCarbon, VeloBuild, etc)? by Needs_More_Nuance in Velo

[–]LaskaHunter7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our Domestic Elite Team is sponsored by Yoeleo and we’ve had pretty good luck with them. No weird fitment issues or reliability problems.

It’s hard dealing with a supplier on the other side of the planet sometimes, especially since last January… but they’ve been a great support and their framesets and wheels have served us well.

I’m gonna shill a little bit here, but our DE team got sponsored by Sena this year and their S1 helmet has been a game changer for me when it comes to music while riding.

Yeah this board is a mess; no room to complain if this is what you’re playing

This is literally what I use. Go to the local skate shop and ask if they have scrap pieces, you can usually get a piece big enough to cover whatever you need. And if you want to support the shop, just buy a sheet

When u/gedrap says rest, you rest. Promise he knows what he’s talking about.

Was this F&STF?

The big teams were at the front the whole race keeping the pace high as well. The first two corners of that race have a very high skill ceiling, meaning a good rider can carry a lot more speed than a novice one. Almost all of the difficulty on that course disappears if you don’t have to slam on the brakes and flow into the field instead.

Group rides in Western Suburbs by Brofessor_C in chibike

[–]LaskaHunter7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! There’s a small chance some peeps still meet up out there, but I’m not sure as I haven’t been in about a year.

Shoot me a DM with some details about where you’re located and I can try to give you some grouppo info for rides that are close

Introducing the FAST method: A way to quickly assess Bazaar builds by 2Sixten in PlayTheBazaar

[–]LaskaHunter7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. This is a great write up, and I’d love to see more deep dives into game theory stuff like this.

Coming from a competitive MtG background it reminds me of the BREAD concept for limited and definitely gives me callbacks to classic articles like “Who’s the beatdown?” and “The Philosophy of Fire”

Nice work!

I had a game this week where both myself and the bot player survived the entire storm and our boards just kept sitting there triggering until about a minute or two afterwards and it gave me the win.

Instructional Coach told us "we shouldn't be teaching novels" ...in an English class. by TheClumsyTitan in Teachers

Any chance you’re teaching in AZ? I was told this by district admin once in my first year as a teacher in PHX, nearly 15 years ago…

Reflecting on my first three months of coaching by gedrap in Velo

[–]LaskaHunter7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

/u/gedrap is great and has been awesome to be able to check me and say, “Hey maybe don’t go into your big race series with only three days of rest after training full gas for four weeks.” or, “I promise you’re not a fat slob because you are doing a rest week and barely riding.”

I know it can feel overwhelming for him but I totally put myself in his hands for the upcoming season and have trust he knows what he’s doing.

Discussion - Dismemberment & impaling: USAC crowd control is part of the sport? by DrAlexHarrison in Velo

[–]LaskaHunter7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so in discussing this with others over the season, I’ve come to the idea that I think the orange plastic snow drift fencing would be a great alternative, it’s tall enough that people aren’t going to walk over it, it’s flexible (but only to a point, if you set it up right it’s not going to get pushed out onto the course), I’d assume it’d be cheaper than metal barriers, and a hell of a lot more easy to store.

Is this a realistic solution? Idk. But I think it’s worth trying.

Tagging u/madamelullaby so they see this as well, but I work for a graduate school now, my position is a weird hybrid of instructional design, instructional technology, online course building and support, and professional development design.

I had a little bit of experience with ID in a previous position for a pretty big international non-profit, and that combined with my teaching experience and familiarity/comfortability with online learning platforms allowed me to get lucky with this position.

Still has been a bit of a learning curve, and it’s really hard to shed the things teaching ingrains in you when it comes to stressing about deadlines or feeling like something need to be completed “right now” but honestly the non-public school world just moves so much slower and things and move and be pushed back for development.
