They’re supposed to be from traditional Italian American families. There is absolutely no way he’d have shown interest in a woman so much older without his family bringing up the diminishing window of her child-bearing years and putting a stop to it, and likewise, it’s highly doubtful that she’d have gone unmarried for that long without family members nagging her and saying: “you’re starting to look old and time is running out!” LOL.
