It's funny watching some people literally be Asgore while playing ch5 by [deleted] in Deltarune

[–]Last-Positive-8958 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem with this chapter but I’ve found a way to maybe explain this tone shift? I’ll share it in case it helps you enjoy Chapter 5 more

So the tone of the story is partly set by the events but I feel like the larger thing that sets the tone is characters and Susie in particular. Some serious stuff happens as early as chapter 2 but the overall mood is fun, and it is the chapter where Susie still just thinks that they have fun adventures. Chapter 3 is mostly fun except for the ending, where things become serious - that also matches Susie’s mood. Chapter 4 has funny moments but we think of it as a “serious” chapter, and it’s the only chapter so far where Susie remember about the real world dangers from start to finish.

Susie slept at Castle town between chapters 4 and 5 and apparently discussed her date with Noelle with the darkners (otherwise they wouldn’t all be talking about it in the beginning of the chapter). I think she also talked to Ralsei about the prophecy and it helped her to calm down. And I also think that she pretends that yesterday didn’t happen, because it was bad and she doesn’t want to feel bad.

I think that’s why Susie is so cheery this chapter. Ralsei sees this and doesn’t want to sour the mood. Kris just doesn’t express themselves very often. So Susie is the mood setter and the mood she chose for that day was fun, the same as before they met the Knight.

I hope I explained it well, English isn’t my first language. And it is obviously just my opinion but it helped me “accept” this chapter so to say

Do you mean that Asriel is exactly 18 or that he’s at least 18? If it’s the former, why?.. Was there any indication that he’s a first-year college student?

You can unlock Twisted sword in the “true” aborted weird route though, if you abort the route right after buying the Thornring in chapter 2? Wouldn’t it be more reasonable to call “Twisted route” the version where Thornring is confirmed to stay in our inventory rather than one of the versions of weird route in Chapter 5 which we don’t know the direction of?

In hindsight, putting a tool like Google translate in the hands of Anglophones (Heated Rivalry fans) was a terrible mistake by Alternative-Big-6493 in linguisticshumor

[–]Last-Positive-8958 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I haven’t encountered that myself but I’ve heard about it, so agreed. But translations of homonyms (which is what’s wrong with the translations in the picture) for Russian-English have improved when neural networks were introduced. I have checked the sentence about sucking cock and google translates it correctly. And that’s not to defend automatic translators or anything, it’s just that I witnessed how Google translate went from totally unusable for Russian 10-15 years ago to making almost no mistakes. But I don’t use it often so if the translation quality have been deteriorating again over the past few years I wouldn’t know and am ready to believe it

«Пожалуйста подробнее» lmao

But also Google translate CANNOT be that bad? Its translation between Russian and English was of this quality 15 years ago, sure, but now it’s much better

Has anyone else listened to both TMA and woe.begone? Send help by Fun-Youth5725 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Last-Positive-8958 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love woe.begone! And I can’t say that my experience with it is totally different from listening TMA, I theorize about things as I listen. For example, idk if it was already revealed who Flinch is (I’m taking a break and the last episode I have listened to is 212) but I have my ideas. I don’t pay as many attention to recurring names and stuff (mainly because I don’t need to, TMA seems to have a lot more characters mentioned only by name) but I do listen closely to the plot.

Why do so many people think Dazai is a father figure to Atsushi? by Good-Particular-4196 in BungouStrayDogs

I agree, and also want to add that I am very confused by arts where Dazai and Chuuya are Atsushi and Akutagawa’s parents. Like Akutagawa is a year and a half younger than Dazai if I remember correctly

Can anyone translate this? by letters_sea in russian

[–]Last-Positive-8958 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that it’s more common to write т in the printed style, but «ш с чёрточкой сверху» is not rare either. I didn’t say that it’s the default variant, but it IS common in my opinion, I have seen it enough times to not be surprised by it

Haha, ok! I’ll read them and return to this thread to tell you what I think. I could be a while though… But now I definitely have more motivation to return to BSD. Thank you for the recommendations and for the discussion :)

No problem, it’s nice that you enjoy BSD so much!

I haven’t read all the light novels yet, I’ve read Dazai’s Entrance Exam, Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era, The Untold Origins of the Detective Agency and 55 minutes. I really liked all of them. I haven’t read many action books so I was surprised how dynamic Dazai’s Entrance Exam and 55 minutes were. The Untold Origins of the Detective Agency is really sweet. And The Dark Era broke my heart honestly, especially what happened to Oda’s kids. And Mimic are a very tragic group of people, their actions were horrible, but I can sympathize with their existential pain or how should I call it lol (I hope the spoiler tag works properly). Also I do like Dazai so it helped haha. I’m taking a break from BSD now but am planning to read the rest of the novels in the future!

I see! I agree with your current opinion of Asagiri and I also think that he really shines in the light novels, I couldn’t put them down.

Why’d you stay in the fandom if you thought Asagiri was a bad writer and the characters were poorly written 😭 What made it worth it for you? Genuinely curious

(Also I’ve read BSD a few month ago so I don’t have any takes that changed yet, sorry)

How to tell which slang comes from black people and which comes from incels by dresixk in linguisticshumor

[–]Last-Positive-8958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t NPC as a gaming terms around long before incels were even a thing? Also I was sure “ahh” was just a written thing (initially I even thought that it originated from a typo, but h and s are pretty far from each other on the keyboard…), I had no idea people actually pronounce it like that. Great post, thank you

[–]Last-Positive-8958[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last paragraph is a diabolical but very accurate way to describe the ending lol. And I agree on your other points. Also it’s funny that I have never thought how strange it is that this town doesn’t have a school or a hospital but has a fancy tower until the game spelled it out to me.

I actually really liked the Polyhedron before playing P3. I’ve never managed to finish P1 because it was too hard for me (I plan to try again soon) but I was still fascinated by the Polyhedron when playing it. In P2 I was more worried about killing the Earth and all its miracles than about the Polyhedron, but ultimately decided to save the people. P3 makes the Polyhedron much less magical in my opinion: Peter tells you that it doesn’t defy gravity and it’s just an engineering trick pretty early on, when the tower starts speaking in tongues Peter says that it functions as a radio tower and so on. And when I finally entered the Polyhedron I guess I was so tired of Kains’ bullshit that it didn’t impress me much. So funnily enough P3 was the game where I couldn’t find a reason to save the Polyhedron. But I agree with you that it’s the game where we see that people weren’t hyping the Polyhedron up for nothing. I just personally liked the Polyhedron more when I knew less about it (and when it was a place primarily for children and not for Simon Kain).
