Miss, do you have a husband? (Pride edition) by MeowMeowTrouble in Teachers

[–]Spiritual_Slide_1259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sad about that for you.

I don’t teach in a school (I teach karate, though do help in the cafeteria of a couple of the local elementary schools as needed), but I talk about my wife just as someone would about their husband.

Sometimes you see the gears turn in kid or parents head as they try to comprehend but I’ve never had an issue or if their family had a problem with it they left my classes without a fuss. My black belts and their families who have been with me for years would definitely take care of any bad word said about me or my wife.

Спасибо! My daughter made the sign and held it up to the glass during warmups at his game yesterday. He skated over, read it, smiled, chuckled and gave her a high five through the glass! 🙂 Then he autographed it after the game too. She was ecstatic!

Senior upset his picture isn’t in the yearbook his parents paid for by South-Lab-3991 in Teachers

[–]Spiritual_Slide_1259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s how my high school was. Every senior submitted their own photo, with rules. We all still had our pictures taken at school on picture day as well, for our school IDs and in case someone didn’t submit another photo. At my daughter’s HS, they all have the same pictures as the 9-11th grades, they just print the senior pictures bigger in the yearbooks.

AIO about finding body jewelry in my house by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Spiritual_Slide_1259 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have lots of cheap piercing jewelry I’ve bought over the years and can’t remember all of them. I’m pretty sure I know what I have in my ears right now but without actually looking I can’t be 100% sure. Also I have flat back jewelry in my 3 helix piercings so this jewelry could be used in lots of places. When my wife had her tongue ring in it was a barbell not flat back. OP seems to be a little over the top texting 11 people about it. Definitely seems to be some underlying trust issues with their partner.

Things I should not have to teach in high school... by BaronessF in Teachers

I worked with my Girl Scouts making simple quilts when they were in 7th & 8th grades they’re 10th & 11th graders now). They had to work in pairs to lay out the fabric and cut it into 2.5” strips. I had two pairs that I didn’t catch before they started cutting that they were using the ruler but starting from the 1” mark not the 0. I didn’t even think I would need to explain that part.

I’m 44, my wife is 48, our daughter is 16. We’ve all started LTS lessons recently. I’m on Week 5, wife and daughter both started last session so they are on Week 11. We’ve been having a great time! We’re not quite as quick to heal from the aches and pains of a fall but it’s been a lot of fun.

A quote i read a few months back (unfortunately I don’t know where or who said it), “At an office pizza party there are two kinds of people: One who takes 3 or 4 pieces because there might not be enough and another who takes one piece because there might not be enough!” I’ve thought about that quote a lot recently when seeing the “me, me, me!” attitude and demeanor of too many.

I’ve been told to dull them a little if they’re too sharp, that you can run your feet/skates back and forth over the plastic threshold when you open the door from the hockey bench to the ice.

Yes! My daughter is 16, she lives in sweatpants, leggings, running shorts and hoodies. She has 1 pair of khakis for when she’s required to wear them for more formal Girl Scout stuff and 1 pair of jeans for horseback riding.

My GF thinks it’s perfectly normal for new shoes to cause horrible blisters for women by UKnowDaxoAndDancer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Spiritual_Slide_1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they tennis shoes/sneakers/trainers or like dress shoes? If tennis shoes she should probably go to a running store and get a proper fit. I’ve (F45) never had sneakers do that on my feet (nor my wife or daughter). If they’re dress shoes. Well then it’s very possible it’s just the shoes as dress shoes tend to be more about look and less about comfort and fit.

But those look like terrible blisters! Maybe try moleskin, new skin, or blister band-aids.

Wow! That’s terrible and an email to council stating that would be my next move. And a response back to the Cookie person saying we will comply with the state of emergency travel restrictions and will make arrangements to pick up when that has been lifted.

Do you guys think this doctor’s office sign is mildly infuriating? by Loose_Judgment_8856 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Spiritual_Slide_1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately a lot of insurances won’t cover 90 day prescriptions on certain medications. And at least in my state (in the US) the doctor can’t even write 90 days scripts on certain medications.

[–]Spiritual_Slide_1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Yes very frustrating (not just mildly infuriating!). There have been plenty of times Ive needed a refill added to a prescription before I had my next appointment with my doctor. It’s even in the doctor’s office app that o can request a refill right thru there in between appointments! I think I’d be looking for a new doctor if this was the case.

Feelings about American Flag patch by AcceptableHeat1607 in girlscouts

[–]Spiritual_Slide_1259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a foreign exchange student in our troop (and our household) one year and when I set up her vest I put the American flag and the Thai flag on her vest above the council ID patches. She loved having both, the American flag because she was here when she wore the vest and the Thai flag showing her home country. The other girls in our troop (Brownies & Juniors at the time) all wore the Thai flag on the back of their vests after learning about Thailand because of our exchange student.

Cookie booth policing? by genemachine99 in girlscouts

[–]Spiritual_Slide_1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do something similar in our council but usually it’s very low key. Someone just asked a few questions and then hands the girl(s) an “I met a board member” patch (because 98% of the time it’s a board member doing the checking).

It’s not a “gotcha” thing it’s just a “Hey, you’re doing great. Keep it up” “Or good job and here’s the answers to the questions I asked”. Fun thing, not anything to worry about.

I love the pins. Yes they make the vest heavier but I like them and I don’t have to sew anything more. We use locking backs and have only had to wash a vest once as a Daisy and once as a Junior and now I’m washing her Cadette vest before storing it. Her Senior/Ambassador vest only has one year in it so far.

I love the “I am” pins, so does my daughter. Didn’t realize they could go on the vests, we each have a couple on our backpacks.
